    The Buddha image
This Theravada Buddhist shrine includes an 800-pound statue of Siddhartha Gautama, commonly referred to as the Buddha, sitting in meditation at the top of a cliff. It was brought to the site in 2005 from Virginia thanks to the generosity of Brian J. Stephens. Buddhists do not worship the statue. Statues and shrines inspire upekkha (equanimity), metta (loving-kindness), karuna (compassion), and mudita (sympathetic joy) . Shrines are also spaces where Buddhists can make offerings. Because this shrine is located outside in a forest area, flammable offerings, like incense and candles, are restricted. Flowers are permitted. In this spirit, visitors have planted daffodils each fall. These can be seen each Spring during the month of May. See more..
