A very short drive from downtown Stowe, this covered bridge is a great picture spot. In addition to the covered bridge, it is possible to walk down to the water to get some great photos. It is steep, so the short walk is not for everyone. I didn't get any scares at this location, and thankfully our rental car came away with no scratches. I'm not sure if the folks that brought a Chucky doll for photos fared as well. See more..

Disclaimer: no there was not an actual tour it was my own self driving through each of the bridges in Bennington Vermont. What is nice about the three bridges besides the beautiful landscape and preserved structures themselves is that they are conveniently located within five minutes of each other. If you are someone that would like to see covered bridges but do not want to go on a “hunt” for them this trio in Bennington is perfect. See more..

I wanted to see the alleged longest two-span wooden covered bridge in the world. I was afraid it would be in a busy area with no parking, but was pleasantly surprised! Beautiful historic building that is fun to drive thru, wasn't busy at all. Convenient parking for multiple cars was right outside of it on the NH side. Pay attention to the traffic and you can have plenty of opportunities to photograph the bridge from every angle. Just the feeling of driving it was absolutely worth the detour. See more..

This old but we’ll maintained bridge is worth a visit! The woodwork structure is beautiful and has a built on walkway (1917). The bridge is no longer actually driven upon and is a great photo op with the stream flowing underneath. We had the pleasure of meeting a couple of the local caretakers of the bridge. I’m thankful there are folks like them to maintain this history! See more..

After visiting the Woodstock Inn in that beautiful but "too busy" village, we stopped to see this bridge. What a beauty with a parking spot right along the damned Ottauquechee River. The 1836 189' structure is among the oldest covered bridges in Vermont and the U.S. See more..

    Burt Henry Covered Bridge image
The Henry bridge is conveniently located near two other active use covered bridges that have been well preserved. As a Pennsylvanian who has explored several areas of covered bridges in my own state most of ours are in active and have been placed in the vicinity of where they were once in use. It is a treat to be able to visit a place that has these beautiful architectural creations and the settings where they are at live up to expectations of being picturesque. There is a place to pull your car over in order to take pictures, etc. I would still caution to watch for vehicles coming through. I am grateful to the state of Vermont for maintaining these historical structures so that many generations can experience them. See more..

While staying in Brattleboro we were told to visit this bridge. That was great advice. It's a pretty red covered bridge open to traffic. After crossing you can park in the lot and go down to the West River to swim, take pictures and just enjoy the scenery. If you walk, carefully, into the bridge you can take an awesome picture from the diamond cutout on the bridge wall. If you plan on going down to the water bring water shoes. The river is rocky. Worth the trip. See more..

We happened on this bridge while driving from Montpelier through Vermont to see the fall scenery. It was a cool find. A bridge that floats on the water that you can cross, while your there you might during a hot Summer day go for a swim or bike on the many country dirt roads over hilly Vermont. Grist Mill Covered Bridge image
Located in Jeffersonville, Vermont, Grist Mill Covered Bridge greeted my son and me with warmth and beauty on a quiet Sunday afternoon as Fall colors began to sweep the region. Originally built in 1872, it joins two sides of Canyon Road across the Brewster River and prevails as one of only remaining Burr arch truss bridges in all of Vermont. As such, it served as a history lesson for us and a welcome diversion from the hustle and bustle of main street traffic. One interesting piece of trivia to share with your pet is that it’s also referred to as the “Scott Covered Bridge”, the “Bryant Covered Bridge”, and the “Canyon Covered Bridge”. Regardless of name, it was worth driving out of the way to see. See more..

What was interesting for me was that I've only found two sets of covered bridges in Vermont where you can look through one and see the next one. (Google Northfield 5). I arrived on a cloudy morning but the sun was trying to poke through. I noted in the other review that they said a red covered bridge and one waterfall. Well, in fact neither are red but both covered bridges have waterfalls under them. Yes if you were traveling on Route 91 and you were paying attention you might notice the twin bridges. The best parking is on the island in between the bridges. both before and after the bridges are homes and businesses that don't really provide ideal parking. You could probably park 2-3 cars alongside the road on the island that connects the two twin bridges. See more..

    - Favorite Montgomery Covered Bridge

    West Hill Covered Bridge image
Of all the bridges in Montgomery, this was our favorite. But definitely take note of the comments made by Edward W above! Some additional things to note: 1. Both Hill West Road and West Hill Road are completely different roads, running parallel to each other, connected by Creamery Bridge Road, where the bridge is located. Best to take West Hill Road, and take a left on Creamery Bridge Rd. Otherwise, from the other direction, there is a steep rocky downhill as you approach the bridge. 2. To navigate the steep uphill climb after you cross the bridge, it'd best to have a 4-wheel drive vehicle. 3. The bridge was originally called the Creamery Bridge, and was completely renovated in 2009. Some older websites say that the bridge has been closed down and not in use -- but those were written prior to the renovation. It is completely safe to drive over, and the setting is awesome. Just be prepared for the rough terrain around it! See more..

    - A Must Visit Covered Bridge in VT
    Bridges
On our recent trip to VT we went in search of the best covered bridge and stumbled upon this often missed gem that bridges Lewis Creek close to Middlebury VT. What makes this bridge awesome is that you take a well-traveled dirt road to get there (so it feels very authentic) and you can park your car and head down a path to a creek. You can stroll along the creek (hiking sneakers or shoes are a good idea) to a nearby waterfall and enjoy incredible views of both the bridge and the falls. A great off-the-beaten path stop in Charlotte, VT! Very peaceful and relaxing, and very easy to access. Our other top choice was the Taftsville bridge, also because you can get down to the river it crosses for fabulous views. See more..
