I took a detour west from Ludlow VT on the way home to NYC to take “a walk” to see the falls here as I saw they were about the 3rd highest in VT at 125 feet high. When I got to the trail head I asked someone coming out how long it would take to get to the falls and they said about 1.5 hrs uphill. Great I thought! The friendly hiker said if I “hoofed” it, I could get there in 1 hr. I hoofed it. Through and around some mud, over a shallow stream, literally balancing on loose logs trying not to fall in to the stream. Thank goodness for water proof hiking shoes. I almost gave up to be honest. But I made it and it was GLORIOUS!! I was alone for about 20-30 mins to climb around and take many pictures. I was so taking with the energy of the water rushing down this time of year. The sun peaked through enough times to reflect off the water like a million little diamonds. So grateful for this place. Would go again. See more..
  3. 4.5 Buttermilk Falls (176 reviews)
    - Worth the effort

We visited in July, and did not expect to see much water flowing ( for the time of year), but with all the rain this year, it was impressive. The lower and middle falls were more accessible than the upper falls, and presented good viewing and photo opportunity. The Upper falls require an agile climb down from the street/parking area, but for us it was worth the effort; taller falls, more water, more photo ops. See more..

    - Great moderate hike

My wife and I are enjoying the look walks in the forests littered with natures beauty! The approximately quarter mile walk on the leaf covered, uneven paths didn’t deter us. We picked up some fallen branches as walking sticks, a good idea for better footing. When you get to the falls there is a very steep, rocky access point to the best views of the falls. It had drizzled earlier which added to the adventure but I caution anyone who is not able bodied and sure footed to negotiate the hazards of uneven, slick paths. The walk to the falls is down hill which means a butt-burner on the way back. The trailhead is NOT MARKED and it took three passes to find the place to park. Parking is directly in front of the trailhead. It’s worth the short hike and hazards. Take time to walk the pathway upstream to enjoy the path less traveled, gorgeous riverside views and more solitude. A great moderate level hike! See more..
  5. 4.5 Warren Falls (116 reviews)
    - A must stop on RT 100

A beautiful quick, dog friendly stop on our journey down RT 100. The walk/trail to the falls is flat and very close to the parking lot. If you want to get closer to the falls or swim, you’ll need to climb down some large rocks. The water is crystal clear! You can continue on the trail past the falls if you want to. It’s about a mile loop. We had no trouble finding a parking space but could definitely see how it would fill up during the hotter months. The park is carry-in/carry-out and there aren’t any trash or dog waste receptacles. See more..

Bring a chair and sit in the river all day with a cold beverage and a local sandwich. This is one of my favorite spots in Vt. Thankfully those who visit clean up their trash to keep this river clean! See more..

We went off the 100 to find these falls and we were not disappointed. There is a very nice woodland trail of a few miles, around an hour walk, and then the Falls and bridge across the river was delightful. Plenty of parking, stunning in the Fall, the leaves were truly lovely. See more..

Really nice place to stop to see this beautiful Waterfall. In the spring it is roaring, in the winter it gets Iced over and is just a wonder to look at. Well worth the side trip to see this. Lots of nice little Restaurants in the area or go just up the street to the General store and grab a sandwich and come back for a picnic. Perfect spot for the handicap as you can see the Falls right from the car. You can pull right off Route 5 into the parking area. They keep it plowed in the winter too! See more..

We went on a beautiful late summer day and we were the only ones there! Very pretty and peaceful. Hardest part is finding the parking and picnic area, and that’s not all that hard. Short, moderately steep path down to canyon bottom and falls takes less than 10 minutes. See more..

The water level was really low when we visited but would be good with the spring thaw. The falls were more of a trickle but it is a beautiful area with trees. It was a great wading area when we visited See more..

On our way to Underhill State Park below Mount Mansfield we stumbled across a series of small waterfalls along the dirt road. We were looking for seclusion, not wanting to be next to anyone during COVID-19. We brought out or camp chairs, our grill and our fold up table and sat relaxing, listening to the water flow by. My husband brought his book, I brought my laptop and we spent a couple hours outside the house in nature. There is a tiny pull off on the left as you ascend the mountain. See more..
