Moose River Lake and Lodge is unlike any other shop I've seen because it has several taxidermy items mixed in with jewelry, furniture, pottery, paintings, clothing, gifts, and wine (!). It's a strange sight to see all these trophy heads and small animals throughout the store, some with humorous signs affixed to them. There are light fixtures, furniture and other art made from real antlers and horns. (I'm not a fan of hunting, but it's a reality). The merchandise is quality-made, with price tags to match -- this isn't your local flea market. They have some really nice stuff (no pun intended related to the 'stuffed' animals), and there's so much of it. I've seen taxidermy at Cabela's and L. L. Bean in Maine, but it's not mixed in with wine and delicate gift shop items. This is something really unique, in the true sense of the word.See more..

Antique Shops I usually dread looking at antiques in a shop because my experience has been with overcrowded, dark shops where you get overwhelmed quickly. This store was different because of the wide open layout, good lighting, and grouping of items which made sense. There was a great deal of antique furniture in very good shape, as well as unexpected items such as new locally made soaps and bath products. The store is even bigger than it appears from the outside - don't forget to check out the back room. We were just passing through and decided to stop. Could not believe the organization skill's this lady has in the placement of her treasures. This is truly a must see. What we really found most interesting is the collection of clothing through the years that you would see in stage plays, that worn in the movies. Most interesting however is the hat collection she has. Can you imagine a collection of over 500 hats? I'm a guy but was really impressed in the numbers and design. There is a lot of truly antiques in this place. She had taken over the business from her mom and she's been in it a long time. You never know what treasure you may find. I am sure you would not be disappointed. She has a little friend that she feeds as well. If your going with children it is pretty tight quarters, but, don't let the stop you from taking a look.
