This old but we’ll maintained bridge is worth a visit! The woodwork structure is beautiful and has a built on walkway (1917). The bridge is no longer actually driven upon and is a great photo op with the stream flowing underneath. We had the pleasure of meeting a couple of the local caretakers of the bridge. I’m thankful there are folks like them to maintain this history! See more..

We happened on this bridge while driving from Montpelier through Vermont to see the fall scenery. It was a cool find. If you want to see the interior of the bridge you'll have to climb up a short steep hill to get there (so not for folks with mobility issues). It's right off of the road so easy to stop and learn some history and take a few pics. See more..

This wonderful old white wooden building really moved me. The setting is magical, especially on a summer evening. We lingered until the sun set in the deep lavender sky. Being there felt like being transported in time. There is nothing to "offend the eye." Thank goodness this perfect old meeting house has been protected for future generations. It's so beautiful, it's worth the short detour off the main road. Walk around the graveyard. It's remarkable. See more..

  23. 4.5 The Chaffee Art Center (12 reviews)
    - A wonderful asset for an artistic state
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    The Chaffee Art Center image
Vermont has several wonderful arts centers and the Chaffee is one of them. With 2 locations in Rutland (a beautiful mansion on Main street (rt 7) and a smaller (newer) location in downtown Rutland), be sure to check them both out. The large exhibits change on a rotating schedule and there are always smaller exhibits in the down town location. They also offer a variety of classes and events. One of the most amazing things about this organization is that all of their exhibits are open to the public and free. They operate based on a small membership base and voluntary donations at the door. They don't promote this information, so it could be easy to miss. Be sure to leave a little something if you enjoyed your visit. See more..

    Coburn Covered Bridge image
I was in Montpelier area and took some country roads to come see this bridge on my way to Cornish, NH. The drive itself was beautiful and peaceful. Haven't seen many covered bridges...yet, but the woodwork amazes me and the idea of how many people traveled through it on their way to and from many places is a pretty exciting one. There is a parking opportunity right next to the bridge. The fact that it's in a middle of nowhere adds to its charm. See more..

  30. 4.5 Grist Mill Covered Bridge (6 reviews)
    - Very pretty historic bridge
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges
    Grist Mill Covered Bridge image
Located in Jeffersonville, Vermont, Grist Mill Covered Bridge greeted my son and me with warmth and beauty on a quiet Sunday afternoon as Fall colors began to sweep the region. Originally built in 1872, it joins two sides of Canyon Road across the Brewster River and prevails as one of only remaining Burr arch truss bridges in all of Vermont. As such, it served as a history lesson for us and a welcome diversion from the hustle and bustle of main street traffic. One interesting piece of trivia to share with your pet is that it’s also referred to as the “Scott Covered Bridge”, the “Bryant Covered Bridge”, and the “Canyon Covered Bridge”. Regardless of name, it was worth driving out of the way to see. See more..

  40. 5.0 Raven Ridge Natural Area (2 reviews)
    - Good Hiking
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
    Raven Ridge Natural Area image
My family and I did this hike, 2 adults and one 12 year old. It is a moderate hike about 2.5 miles total if you do the loop which I recommend. The trailhead is reached via a dirt road and the parking lot is small. However, parking on the road is easy. The trail starts with a long boardwalk through wetlands and then rises and there is a considerable climb until you reach the overlooks after 1.5 miles. Good views are your reward (see pictures). This is a fun hike only about 10 minutes from the highway and I would recommend it. Also, be aware they do not allow dogs on the trail. See more..

    Thursday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges
    Willard Twin Covered Bridge image
What was interesting for me was that I've only found two sets of covered bridges in Vermont where you can look through one and see the next one. (Google Northfield 5). I arrived on a cloudy morning but the sun was trying to poke through. I noted in the other review that they said a red covered bridge and one waterfall. Well, in fact neither are red but both covered bridges have waterfalls under them. Yes if you were traveling on Route 91 and you were paying attention you might notice the twin bridges. The best parking is on the island in between the bridges. both before and after the bridges are homes and businesses that don't really provide ideal parking. You could probably park 2-3 cars alongside the road on the island that connects the two twin bridges. See more..

Strange place for a covered bridge as it is located in the middle of a farm field and spans a very small narrow farm pond with no discernible reason for its presence. It appears to be reasonably well maintained but as it is on private property it precludes closer inspection. You need a GPS to find this bridge as it is well off the beaten track. See more..
