Converted from the Central Vermont Railway to a bike path in the 1970s, this easy trail crosses through beaches and parks and offers great views of Lake Champlain, the Adirondacks and the city.See more..
Upon the recommendation of a local, I stopped by the Thundering Brook Falls trail for a late afternoon hike. It was hot and muggy, but the hike is short. Still I recommend bringing water and bug spray (the flies were bad). Much of the trail is a boardwalk along the Appalachian Trail. There is a little elevation gain up to the falls overlook. I spent a few minutes enjoying the sound of the water falling over the rocks. It was lovely! I highly recommend visiting this gorgeous waterfall!See more..

4.5Retreat Trails(61 reviews) - Great hiking options Hiking Trails
We loved this morning hike with a variety of well marked paths to choose from. We followed Morningside and Ice Pond where we ended at the Ski Hill. We hiked up the stairs (what a workout) and followed the trail at the top down the back (better than going down the stairs) to get back to the bottom.See more..
4.5Deer Leap Trail(48 reviews) - Challenging But Rewarding Hiking Trails
I hiked the Deer Leap Trail to Deer Leap Overlook in July. The trail begins at the top of the pass on US 4. The trail is rough with lots of tree roots and boulders. The trees blocked the wind which in conjunction with the humidity made it stifling. Make sure to bring plenty of fluids as you will lose a lot. The trail has an almost constant upgrade. But the view from the top was spectacular! There was a cool breeze up there on the exposed rock outcropping. I sat and enjoyed the view for a while. It is a great hike and we’ll worth the effort!See more..
4.5Healdville Trail(44 reviews) - Not easy (or always regularly maintained). Generally peaceful without lots of people. Hiking Trails
I live ¼ mile from the trail head. I would not say the hike is "easy" at most any age unless you are conditioned and used to hiking a mostly steady climb. As of June, 2022, the trail has lots of exposed roots with trip hazards. Much of the climb will be over rocky terrain as other reviewers note, mostly stable with some exceptions. Yes, a hiking stick/trekking pole is recommended especially on the way down. Leaves in some areas make the ground underneath slippery and unpredictable after a rain. There are no views until you're close to the top of the trail. Cell signal is generally available towards the upper elevations, not anywhere near the base. Parking is accessed via Station Rd. off Rt 103, the opposite end no longer reaches Healdville Rd. as the bridge over Branch Brook was deemed unsafe and is blocked to vehicle traffic. It's a good workout!See more..

We started our ride in Morrisville and headed to Johnson. The trail goes through farmland and some forested areas. The grades are easy and the trail is well packed. We rode hybrid bikes and had no issue. There is plenty of parking in Morrisville and they do have a port-a- pottie.See more..
5.0Stowe Pinnacle(27 reviews) - Steep, well maintained ascent to a great view Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails
We were early arrivals to the tiny parking lot at the trailhead. The walk starts gently through a dense marshy meadow, then gradually ascends through forest. About 2/3 of the way to the top it becomes quite steep; the average grade is close to 20% (1500 feet in 1.5 miles). Once at the top you are rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view of the entire valley. Well worth the 2.5 hours round trip. It was a dog party at the top by the time we left; it seems everyone wanted to take their pup up to the top.See more..
On the spur of the moment my daughter and I decided to take the ferry over from Ticonderoga to the shores of Vermont to explore the heavily wooded Mt. Independence State Historic Site. Are we ever glad we did! Cloudless skies and hot temps made the perfect combination for a ferry ride over to Vermont and Mt. Independence. We were informed by a local that there wasn't much to see at this historic site, but as nice as he was, he obviously hadn't been there in awhile. There is a beautiful information center with short video (very interesting), and numerous trails to explore. As history buffs, this truly did connect the dots with respect to historical events that took place in the area in the 18th and 19th centuries.See more..
4.5Owls Head Trail(18 reviews) - Great views for minimal effort Hiking Trails

4.5Bucklin Trail(16 reviews) - Long trail, but worth the hike! Hiking Trails
My husband and I hiked the Bucklin Trail on an early Sunday morning in September. The weather was around 55 degrees when we started, which was perfect for the 7.8 mile (roundtrip) trail. It took us about 2.5 hours to hike up and 1 hour and 45 minutes to come back down. We stopped several times to take pictures, catch our breath, and take in the scenery. The first 2 miles of terrain is pretty flat, then it starts to go straight up to the top of Mt. Killington. The view from the top is gorgeous. I highly recommend going up to Killington no matter which trail you choose. Not sure I'd do the Bucklin again because of the distance of flat terrain at the beginning, much rather just start hiking at an incline to start, but glad we did it!See more..

That’s right. All 3 of these pastimes may be experienced here. Photography and birding occurs here, too. A public boat launch is located within the parking lot. Overflow parking is located here as well. Specific trails exist for cycling and hiking. The area is scenic. Look for the ospreys in July.See more..
Loved this trail for a great, relaxing family walk. Trail was mostly snow-covered on this day and microspikes were helpful. It is well-marked with red blazes and yellow signs, easy to stay on the trail. Some great views of Mt. Ascutney and other surrounding mountains. A few steep sections. Worth a visit!See more..

We did this hike one beautiful fall day in early November. It's a moderate hike but there is 1 area that's a little challenging with steep steps so watch your footing on the way in and prepare for a good climb on the way out, but it's worth it. The destination is very cool and you can walk right up to, through, and past the Gulch and there are plenty of flat areas to rest, sit down, and enjoy snacks. The trail is well marked once you're on it but we were a tad confused when we started out as you park on 1 side of the road and then the trail takes you across to the other side. There's also a Long Trail shelter off the main trail which was really nice and easy to get to and back on the trail. The out and back took us 3-4 hours but we dawdled a bit, enjoyed the walk, and we were on vacation and in no rush. This was a hike definitely worth taking!See more..
Great hike, it does take a few hours to get to the top however not too challenging, absolutely worth going to see! See more..
4.0Canty Trail to Blue Ridge Mountain(1 review) - Rewarding hike through Green Mountain National Forest Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails Granddaughter and I hiked the Canty Trail to Blue Ridge Mountain near Killington, Vt one beautiful summer day. Round trip is approx 4.9 miles. It is listed as moderate, but some parts are quite steep. They suggest 2.5 to 3.5 hours, we did it in a little less. Elevation at peak is 3278 ft. You have to look closely on Old Turnpike Road to see the entrance sign for the hike. It is not highly marked. There is a small pull off for cars. Nice trail that starts off somewhat level for awhile in a nice forest setting. Streams are crossed on sturdy logs and bridges. As the climb begins up the mountain there are rock steps built into the trail. About one mile in there is a beautiful cascade falls to the left of the trail that is well worth a visit. Granddaughter climbed all around this feature and was enthralled with it. As you climb the forest gives way to more coniferous growth. At the top, the summit is a round rock outcropping that is totally surrounded by brush and trees affording no view whatsoever. Nearby, is a spur trail that takes you to an overlook that is just wonderful. You look toward Rutland and all down the valley south. Loads of mountains in view and possibly even the Adirondacks. We had a snack there and took a selfie. She and I do enjoy moving quickly down trails, still being careful but letting gravity take over, thus we got down pretty fast. A nice lunch at Sushi Yoshi on the mountain road in Killington rounded out our adventure very nicely.See more..

4.0Chaffee Falls Trail(1 review) - ADVENTURE WALKING THROUGH SEMI-STRENUOUS TRAIL NEAR PITTSFORD, VT Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails Chaffee Falls Trail is a fun and challenging place to hike if you are physically fit and agile. There are steep slippery areas so take your time. The trails is about: 1.7 miles with a cross connector and another (0.7 mi.) rather steep winding branch off the north side of the trail. You park Just off Hitchcock Road, approximately 0.7 miles north from the Plains Road intersection. The trail meanders through mostly wooded land along Furnace Brook with views of Chaffee Falls and rapids below.See more..
This is a three mile long trail that winds all the way around Colchester Pond & take about an hour, maybe a touch more. It is well maintained for the most part, mostly easy walking on packed dirt or wooden planks through the woods with a few uphill climbs, but very do-able. Most of the trail offers views of the lake (swimming, sunbathing & some boating allowed), either from the forested area or the meadow that is near the end/beginning. We saw a ton of different mushrooms. There is parking, but not a ton of it.See more..
This is a very comfortable hike and has awesome views. The thing I liked the most was the displays on the railings of the fire tower so that you can see the names of the mountains and elevations. There are a lot of rocks on the upper half and they can be very slick even a day after the last rain. I took a good fall which made for an uncomfortable hike down. I will do this hike again because I neglected to take photos of the views from the fire tower after my fall. However the parking lot is only about 20 minutes from the Harpoon brewery so make a reservation in advance and have a great day.See more..
