Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, Maine, United States

Pemaquid Point Lighthouse - Bristol ME

Amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean from the rocky Maine coastline. Parking is free and it costs only $3 to climb up the lighthouse tower (max four people at a time and that is a tight squeeze). The place is run by volunteers, who are friendly and helpful. There are public toilets on site plus an art gallery and an interesting little fisherman's museum. Note, the SeaGull restaurant and gift shop is not part of the site.

    A Wonderful Place
A very nice place to visit. The Lighthouse itself is well maintained and at just 35 feet high is an easy climb. The views are excellent. The rocky shores of Maine are in full display here, and actually can be quite dangerous if you don't watch your step and maintain awareness of the ocean. People have been swept off the rocks from time to time. The museum that is housed in the former light keepers house is interesting and informative, but is clearly showing the ravages of age. My personal preference would be for the house to be restored as a museum that shows the life of a light keeper and his family, but being owned by the City I imagine funding for that will never exist. The Art Exhibit on display on the property is wonderful as well, and probably a very good way to get people to view art that would otherwise never enter a gallery. The art exhibit was extremely under crowded compared to the rest of the property so perhaps I'm wrong about that. The best thing about the site is that it has picnic tables and benches offering nice views and are wonderful places for tourists or locals to have a great lunch. A number of locals also seem to enjoy just setting up beach chairs on the hills, or cliffs and enjoying the view and taking in some sun. A wonderful place.
