The horses were all so calm and none of my kids felt uncomfortable, they all wanted to keep riding! The staff was so friendly and very knowledgeable about the horses. They informed us of every time there was a hill, grass the horses might stop and eat, etc. the price was great for what all you get out of it. I would definitely go back again! See more..

The American Village builds good citizens on the cornerstone of liberty. The American Village is a nationally-pioneering classroom and American history and civics education center that engages and inspires 35,000-40,000 students annually from Alabama and Southeastern states in experience-based academic programs related to American history, civics and government. Students “step into history” and discover the power and drama of America’s journey for independence, liberty, and self-government. The American Village is embarked on a journey to expand the number of students served on-campus to 100,000 each year, drawing school and youth groups from throughout the Nation. On the cornerstone of liberty, the American Village educates and inspires young people to: Know America’s history — the stories of our country’s legacy of liberty and those in every generation who have secured it Cherish the ideals of liberty — the founding principles on which our Nation, the Constitution, institutions of American self-government, and our civic responsibilities are based Serve our country as good citizens and leaders — all as stewards of liberty Remembering the Price of Liberty The timeless lesson of liberty is that freedom is not free. The American Village tells the compelling stories of not only America’s legacy of liberty, but of those in every generation who have served and sacrificed for that cause. Adjoining the hallowed ground of the Alabama National Cemetary, which will become the final resting place for almost 200,000 veterans, the American Village has been designated by public law as the Veterans Living Legacy. This campus is dedicated to honoring America’s veterans and their service and sacrifice for the cause of liberty. The American Village is preparing to engage and inspire 150,000 visitors each year to remember and honor our veterans and active military. The National Veterans Shrine uses multimedia to engage visitors in the stories of liberty and sacrifice, from generat... See more..

  7. 5.0 Foley Welcome Center (42 reviews)
    - Very helpful staff offering many resources
Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers
    Foley Welcome Center image
This is one of our favorite welcome centers. I can ask a question and receive the exact resource I'm looking for. I asked about restaurant locations in Foley and was given a map and a listing of nearly all the restaurants in Foley. I asked about coupons and was given a large perforated flyer of discount coupons for many businesses in Foley. When I asked about other routes to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach aside from Hwy 59, I was given a map of Baldwin County which we've used to get to several communities on the peninsula. We also love the location of the welcome center since it's adjacent to the train museum and kiddy-korner from the Book Exchange which is one of the best book stores on the peninsula. The Foley Welcome Center will continue to be an annual stop for us. See more..

  9. 5.0 Crooked Creek Civil War Museum (38 reviews)
    - You need to go see!
    Military Museums
Crooked Creek Civil War Museum image
Fred is the nicest man and this is the best Civil War museum I've ever been to! It's even on the location of a real Civil War battle. He's been offered a grant for the museum, but so far Fred prefers to handle everything himself, offering a VERY unique experience including walking the grounds of a real Civil War battle, seeing period carriages, tools, weapons, and LOTS of historic artifacts he found on the property, including authentic swords and guns he actually let me, my wife, and toddler hold for pictures! They were unloaded and everything was safe of course. He built every building on the property himself. There have even been "orbs" and ghost sightings at the museum if you are into that! He has the cutest pets and my 3 year old liked playing with the dogs. You should all go to this museum right now! See more..

    - Best Zip Lines in Alabama...I'm guessing! Nice adventure course. Good experience for beginners.
    Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks
    Butter and Egg Adventures image
So, I've been wanting to check out some zip lining for a few years now. Finally, the time was right. I had noticed that there was zip lining in AL off of Highway 231 in Troy when driving between Dothan and Montgomery. That kind of caught me by suprise. I hadn't expected that. Here was my opportunity!! The staff was very helpful with making a reservation. And, the guides were great. Very friendly and informative. They kept a watchful eye on us and explained the challenges well! All of this makes it great for a first-timer! There was a good variety of challenges and zip lines. Some of the zip lines went between trees and others crossed over water. It felt great breezing along on a hot day. By the end, we felt the package was just right. Any more would've been exhausting. It's definitely a great place to take family or friends. And, a great place for a group outing. It's also perfectly located on the way to Destin/PCB or when headed back from the beach. See more..

This was adventure you shouldn’t miss out on! We brought our family of four on the caving adventure and it was truly amazing. We belly crawled thru tunnels, slid down muddy embankments, climbed ladders and experienced total darkness. Can’t wait to come back! See more..
  14. 5.0 Wellborn MuscleCar Museum (34 reviews)
    - Terrific Tour!!!!
    Thursday: Speciality Museums
    Wellborn MuscleCar Museum image
I took my husband here, as a surprise, because he is such a car guy! He was so excited to just see the muscle cars... little did he know that because of Coronavirus closures, I had to book a reservation time for a tour. This just may have been the BEST thing about the Coronavirus! We had a private tour by Mr Alton who is the most knowledgeable “muscle car” person that we have ever met. He was also extremely kind and entertaining! He had stories about each of the cars and how they were acquired. It was such a personable & fun time that I feel even if you are not into cars, that you will be after a visit! I know we will be back again! See more..

Absolutely the BEST experience we could have hoped for! Spent the day with friends on a gorgeous day jumping from airplanes, with some of the most laid back yet professional staff! The people running this place have such a chill vibe to them, that it's hard to be nervous about jumping from 10,000 feet. The photo/video package is absolutely worth the money, as we got some amazing shots of each of us. Just be aware that they can only take 2 jumpers at a time, so book and plan your day appropriately if you have a larger group. This was my first jump, but I am absolutely pumped to go again and will definitely be back! See more..

the fact that people treated (and continue to treat) others who are just different fr/ them is downright absurd. This "museum" (more of an audio-visual experience) pounds that into you. Weeden House Museum image
Built in 1819 (the same year Alabama became a state) the home is not only a source of fine 19th Century furnishings and Federal style architecture but is also the home of poet and artist Maria Howard Weeden. Howard Weeden was born in the house in 1846. Except for the Civil War years when Federal officers occupied the home, Howard spent her entire life in the home. She is known as being one of the first artists to paint African Americans true to life during the years following the Civil War. Guests enjoy a guided history tour which transports them to a bygone era learning about architecture, Weeden art and life in the Antebellum South. Since the home is furnished with antiques and original art, tours are guided tours and last around an hour. Tours are offered twice a day, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 11AM and 1 PM to 2PM or by appointment. Please refer to the website for specific closed dates as the museum is also an event venue and is closed on dates that those events occur. See more..

It has different degrees of banking, elevations, 3 straight a ways. The instructors are the cream of the crop. Whether you are a novice or experienced driver, I would highly recommend attending, it is worth every penny. The entire staff and catering company is top notch. It is a well oiled machine. 30. 5.0 Southeastern Raptor Center (25 reviews)
    - Worth the Trip
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Southeastern Raptor Center image
We visited the Southeastern Raptor Center in Auburn in June 2014. You must call in advance and schedule an appointment if you are a small private party. There is a fee associated. When we went it was $100 and it was well worth every penny. The fee is used to help fund the rehabilitation and care of the raptors at the center. I have never seen such a variety of raptors in one place and I was fascinated by each of these beautiful creatures. We had the privilege of seeing about 25 and learning something about each of them. Marianne and Andrew made this informative and educational presentation interesting and fun to all ages in our group (ages 12-70+). They brought some of the birds out for us to see up close. Let me tell you, it is a thrill to be that close to a golden eagle! It was definitely the highlight of our trip. I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in birds or wildlife-- a very unique experience that we are still talking about. See more..
  31. 5.0 Dauphin Island Marina (24 reviews)
    - Family fun excursion
    Spent 2-3 hours Marinas
    Dauphin Island Marina image
We booked a fishing excursion through Dauphin Island Marina and it was an awesome experience. The two people working on the boat were wonderful! I was nervous going into it as I had never been on a fishing excursion, and I knew there would be quite a few people onboard. It all worked out, everybody caught something and most people took home some fish to make for dinner. They exceeded my expectations. This was a low key excursion that was great for families with kids. The crew were patient, helped when somebody reeled in a big catch and helped cast out. We would definitely do it again. See more..
  32. 5.0 Monte Sano Nature Preserve (24 reviews)
    - Love hiking multiple trails
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Monte Sano Nature Preserve image
We have explored several of the trails in recent weeks. Most of them accessible from trailheads that have free parking. (For a while that was our hesitation for going to Monte Sano. We thought you would have to pay. Which, if you'd like to park in the state park, you do. But, there are plenty of Land Trust parking areas to explore the trails for free.) The trails were well marked, and most were well traversed. We always enjoy exploring and catching some beautiful views, or waterfalls, creeks, animals, etc. We have been able to do all of the trails we have done with our four kids easily. Ages 13, 12, 8, 6. In Memorial Day we made the mistake of choosing another company to shuttle us to float the creek. When we put in we realized two couples with us did not have life vests. We asked the people that we used to shuttle us if they could borrow 2 vests and they would not let them. We put in the creek anyways and floated down to the Terrapin Outdoor Center. The couple went in and asked if they could borrow or buy 2 vests. Terrapin Outdoor let them "borrow" the vests. Now mind you this is us using another company to float the creek! I just believe these guys care more about just getting your money. I just wanted to let everyone know the type of people that are Terrapin Outdoor Center. Great people! Will definitely be using them from here out! See more..
