-Picturesque and fun trip
Monday: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM River Rafting & Tubing • Caverns & Caves • Water Sports • Nature & Wildlife Tours • Kayaking & Canoeing
We booked this as a family of 4 with 2 teenagers, and all really enjoyed it. They made sure when I booked about our level of Spanish and provided an English speaking guide (Ismael), so we were able to understand everything. Ismael was fabulous! Friendly, attentive, fun and informative. The caves were very interesting to see and it was lovely to have a dip in the river during the trip....again kudos to Ismael for helping to get me and my husband back I to the boat after, quite a feat of strength! The staff member taking photos from cliff tops as we travelled did a fabulous job and we have some lovely pictures to remind us of the trip. Our boat was full of serious grown ups, so there wasn't as much water fighting, splashing and jumping in as I was expecting, but they all tolerated our silliness in good humour. Would certainly recommend this activity for families. Well done all! See more..

- 4.5 Museo Del Teatro Romano (2.928 reviews)
-Make sure you know how to get in before going
Monday: Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
By visiting the Museum of the Roman Theatre you will encounter one of the most surprising discoveries of the city in the last decades. Thanks to the ingenious design of the architect Rafael Moneo, you will start your tour of the Palace of Riquelme, the first building of the museum, and then follow the historical hallway located under the street to then move to the new space that collects the most emblematic pieces of all found in the excavations. Using modern stairs you will come to the second tunnel, this time is under the medieval church of Santa Maria, a construction superimposed to the old theatre which increases its uniqueness and attraction. After this, the second corridor, will take you to the most relevant part of the museum, the Roman Theatre, one of the largest in the Roman Hispania with capacity for 7,000 people. See more..

-Stunning elegance and beauty - well worth a visit
Monday: 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Art Museums • History Museums
El Real Casino de Murcia (Royal Casino of Murcia) is an emblematic building in the city of Murcia. Its unique architecture combines modernist and eclectic artistic styles, and the beauty of the building awakes the admiration of all visitors. In fact, it is the most visited civil building in Murcia. It is situated in the heart of the city centre, on Calle Trapería, close to the Cathedral. The Royal Casino hosts a great variety of cultural activities, such as art exhibitions, talks, conferences, three book clubs and book launches. Institutional ceremonies and business events are also held in the Royal Casino. The splendour of the historic building is perfectly preserved yet it is adapted to modern times. See more..

- 4.5 Playa de Calblanque (941 reviews)
-Beautiful natural beaches and coves.
Monday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Beaches
Natural beach and coves. Stunning setting. Take everything you need with you as there are no facilities whatsoever but that keeps this area beautiful and natural. Lifeguards are present in peak season. We drove to the plentiful parking areas (which are free) however I believe in peak season you park up before entering and they provide a bus to the coves. Plenty of walking to be had around the nature reserve too, provided the sun isn’t too hot! My favourite beach for sure! See more..
- 4.5 Bateria de Castillitos (919 reviews)
-Worth the trip! Views are stunning!
Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is an absolutely stunning fort with beautiful views. It’s so interesting it was built in the 20th century! Read the Wikipedia article before as there is no signage. It’s about an hour drive from Cartagena. Since we didn’t have a car in Spain, we hired a private driver so that we could feel comfortable we knew the price, time, and were confirmed in advance. We heard taxis will sometimes take people but not always and for the same price if not more. We thought the drive would be worse than it was given other reviews, but I have traveled a lot and done lots of twisty narrow roads. We spent an hour wandering around which was enough to get the feel and get plenty of photos. I could see people spending 30 minutes to 2 hours there depending on your adventure appetite and the heat. I agree with other posts it is NOT safe for young children. It is completely abandoned fort with lots of ledges. See more..
- 4.5 Calle Mayor (742 reviews)
-The grand promenade down the main street
Spent < 1 hour Neighborhoods • Historic Walking Areas • Architectural Buildings
What a gorgeous way to be introduced to the Old Town! Within minutes of dfter disembarking, we walked down a beautiful pedestrian path (set with blue tiles down the center) which led to the most majestic building as its focal point: The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. It is a show-stopper. From this main street, several small narrow Old Town lanes issue forth. Lots of fun opportunities to follow one's nose and poke about a bit. This is the main street in Cartagena and it is the main retail district. The "calle" is lined with elegant Modernistic buildings and everything looked so clean and well-cared for. See more..
- 4.5 Castillo de Lorca - Fortaleza del Sol (718 reviews)
-A "must place to visit"
Monday: 11:00 AM - 3:30 PM Spent 1-2 hours Castles
The Castle of Lorca is the hallmark of the city, symbol of power and the incessant struggle between the Nasrid kingdom of Granada and the Crown of Castile. The castle-fortress is a place where history is lived first hand through exhibitions, workshops for the whole family, guided tours and extraordinary activities throughout the year. In this space, Ben Sakar (the Hawk's Son), the virtual mascot of the castle will show you scenarios as emblematic as the walls, the stables, the cisterns, the Tower of the Spur, the Tower Alfonsina or the Jewish Synagogue. -Well Worth a Visit
Monday: Speciality Museums
Walked to ARQVA, Museo Nacional de Arqueologia, for a great exhibit relating to underwater exploration from the earliest times to present day. Headphones available for the exhibit as well as Spanish and English signage. This exhibit was very well organized and extremely informative. If you have any interest in the history of exploration of the Mediterranean area this is a must see. Free for seniors and the headphones cost 2 Euro each. Marine Archeological Museum has remarkable display of underwater artefacts. Treasure of Nuestra Senora de las Mercedes frigate sunk in the early 19th century with 14.5 tons of gold and silver coins. - 4.5 Museo Foro Romano Molinete (602 reviews)
-Very well presented archaeological site

The Roman Forum Museum stands as the entrance to one of the largest urban archaeological parks in Spain. Throughout its various halls, where a careful selection of pieces is exhibited, you will be able to learn about the long history of Cerro del Molinete from today back to the old Carthago Nova. The visit concludes with a tour of important remains of the glorious Roman era that invite you to stroll through them: the Curia or local senate with its richly decorated marble pavement; the Colonial Forum, the city’s neuralgic centre, the distribution of which symbolised at various levels the hierarchy between the divine and the human; the Sanctuary of Isis where the mystery cults of the Egyptian gods were celebrated; the old roads with cart tracks; the port’s thermal baths and in particular its magnificent entrance portico with its original flooring; and to finish the Atrium Building, with its high walls and pictorial decorations that transport you to the great banquets of the Roman Empire See more..

- 4.5 Museo Naval (456 reviews)
-Very Impressive and Informative. Not to be Missed.
Monday: Military Museums
Walked to the Naval Museum. Models of sailing ships, uniforms, clothing, weapons, armament, navigation, torpedoes, and mines. Also a timeline, from early 1500’s to 2015, detailing participation of the Spanish navy in world events. Information in Spanish and English. Walked next door to second Naval Museum, this one specializing in Submarine service in Spain, starting with Peral’s electric sub from 1888. They also have a collection of approximately 40 model sailing ships collected by Julio Castelo Matran. The Peral sub was the first military vessel to be built in a Spanish Naval shipyard using a steel hull. In 1890 it was the first sub to fire a torpedo underwater. On June 7, 1890, it sailed 1 hr. at 10 meters depth and emerged at pre-established coordinates. See more..
- 4.5 Caravaca de la Cruz (442 reviews)
-Running of the wine horses
Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
Well what a fantastic fiesta. May 2nd every year is a bank holiday for the town to which they celebrate the running of the wine horses, a spectacle not to be missed. We drove there, easy to park in the side streets and wandered into the main part of the old town. We were greeted with hundreds of locals ready to watch the beautifully decorated horses run. Get as close to the castle as you can and stand clear as they thunder down the road and you literally watch the crowds part as the horses miss the spectators by inches. 60 horses ran. Started 1400-2100. See more..
- 4.5 Las Charcas Mud Baths (436 reviews)

- 4.5 Santuario Ntra. Sra. de la Fuensanta (403 reviews)
-Church
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
Visited the church many years ago with my mother and father while on holiday in La Manga. Quite a drive in the coach up to the church it was very, steep side to the road the driver of the coach drove quite close to the side of the road and my mother was a bit freighted as she sat by one of the windows of the coach facing the steep drop next to the road. We were told that some Spanish people went on the knees up to the church on a sort of Pilgrimage to the Saint. A.nd I remember the name of the church too The alter piece inside the church is worth looking at too As I remember. Worth the trip on the coach also See more..

- 4.5 Experiencia 43 (301 reviews)
-43 tour a must in South-East Spain
Monday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Distilleries
The tour at Experiencia43 is just great! With a very enthusiastic and explanatory guide (Paola) we have learnt a lot about the history of 43, the start of the company, and their marketing campaigns throughout the decades. The museum is very nice and the complementary tour in the production area shows how everything is efficiently produced and bottled. Of course the finishing touch at the end, with cocktails and snacks, makes it really complete. We have become real 43 fans! See more..

- 4.5 Parque Regional de Calblanque (253 reviews)
-Beautiful coastal scenery, rugged hills, lovely beaches
Parks
Large area of hills, beaches, and coastal scenery. There are several hiking paths around and over the hills or along the coast. You can even walk along a Roman road. We visited in October, we were able to drive within 300 meters of the Playa Larga beach. There is little shade, the coastal trail was well marked. If you go west along the coastal trail you come to the Playa Negrete, which is popular with nudists. Access to the Playa Larga beach road is prohibited from 8pm to 9am. See more..
- 4.5 Palacio Consistorial (251 reviews)
-One Euro!
Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is a little known deal, but a terrific budget tip. When you walk in the Palacio, there is a rope blocking the entrance and guards. You are welcome to go in, you just have to have your bag checked. To the left is a little table with a sign that indicates the next tour time. In days there is a cruise ship in port, most of the tours are in English. The tour cost 1E per person and is well worth it. Our tour guide, Valeri, guided us through the building and gave us interesting stories about the building and the government entities that call it home. She also generously took pictures of anyone who wanted their picture taken in counsel chamber or on the grand staircase. The Palacio is an easy walk from the port and one of the first things you come to on the left as you walk from the port up Calle Mayor. See more..

-This spot is a must see area
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Every year on arrival in the San Pedro first stop is Bay Bikes get my self a good sturdy bike and head to the wilds of Wild Life park and salt streams. A bike is a must hense I mentioned Bay Bikes and their shop is local. Have yourself a mud treatment on the way back and wash all that stress out of your system and its all free. Don't forget to look at the wild birds and visit the deserted beach. TomC See more..
- 4.5 El Zulo (229 reviews)
-El Zuno
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
We have visited Cartagena several times and always pay a visit to this superb statue located by the port area and is surrounded by other art close by. It was put there for a reminder to every visitor about Terrorism and the loss of life and injuries caused by those that don’t get their own way. Spain has had a long history of this by a group calling themselves ETA. Unfortunately the reminder is somewhat lost by many tourists having their picture taken by El Zuno’s private area. See more..
