  1. 5.0 Casco Historico de Toledo (1.787 reviews)
    - Charming! Equal to Segovia but in a different way!
    Neighborhoods
    Casco Historico de Toledo image
We love charming medieval villages/towns and Toledo is right up there with the best! It's larger than Segovia so has different feel to it, but definitely recommend going with a guide or taking your time to wander not only touristy streets but charming quiet alleyways, very nice indeed! Went on a weekday last week - not crowded at all fortunately. Has a different feeling to it than Segovia in our opinion - this one takes longer to walk which is nice if have the time. We feel both cities are must sees! See more..

MQM Museo del Queso Manchego Toledo image
My husband, sister-in-law, and I enjoyed our visit today to this cute little shop/museum where we learned about how Manchego cheese is made. After our walk through the museum part, we were able to taste 3 different aged Manchego cheeses (3 months/6months/12 months) and have a glass of wine for just 5 euros. Perfect snack! Everyone who served us was very kind and helpful, and we would definitely recommend a visit to this place if you are in Toledo. See more..

Extremely beautiful, well-kept monastery. It is worth entering and seeing the idyllic garden surrounded by two levels of cloisters, intricate decorations and sculptures, and of course the church itself with a stately altar. This monastery was built as a mausoleum for the Catholic monarchs before they moved to Granada. A beautiful monastery well worth visiting. See more..

Puente de San Pablo (Saint Paul Bridge) image
Standing at the centre gives two fabulous vistas. One back towards the Hanging Houses and forward to the former Convent and Church of San Pablo. Unveiled in 1903 it’s a replacement for a centuries earlier crossing that fell down. A Parador Hotel now occupies the old Convent and its Church has been repurposed as an exhibition centre for works by the renowned artist Gustavo Torner. Looking towards the Hanging Houses, in the early morning light the rock formations have an almost lifelike quality to them. See more..
  8. 4.5 Catedral De Cuenca (1.999 reviews)
    - Glorious
    Monday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Churches & Cathedrals
    Catedral De Cuenca image
Dominating the grand Plaza Mayor, the façade is extraordinary. Elaborate stone carvings are special. Apparently there are plans to complete its renovation in time. Begun in the late 1100s, the Cathedral was essentially complete about 60 years later. In the Gothic style, it also had vestiges of Romanesque, which was still prevalent in Iberia. Inside is extraordinary, with one of the highlights being the ethereal light, ensuing from the stained glass and the ambient sunlight. A ceiling in ribbed vaulting is impressive, particularly over such an expansive space. Art work is plentiful. Holy imagery in sculpture, painting and fresco tell salient Bible stories in vivid colours. Another gorgeous feature is the beautiful choir. Beautiful carvings in dark wood are inspiring and must bring a special experience to the choral recitations and performances. See more..

    Puerta de Bisagra image
The Puerta de Bisagra Nueva is one of many fortress gates into the city, but probably the biggest, most monumental and the best known. It's hard to imagine the scale of this gate until you see it. It's a ginormous with a gateway protected by two humongous barbican. A truly monumental gate worth seeing. See more..

  13. 4.5 Catedral de Santa Maria de Siguenza (1.208 reviews)
    - Pay the entrance fee… it’s worth it!
    Religious Sites
Catedral de Santa Maria de Siguenza image
Realised that the only way to see the cathedral was by paying for the visit, which seemed pricey, but did include an audio guide. Somewhat reluctantly shelled out the relevant entrance fee, and hoped that we wouldn’t regret it. However, would have to say it was perhaps one of the most interesting visits to such a place that we have made in many years, really informative about the history of Sigüenza and the cathedral, as well as important people associated with it. What we hadn’t expected was some of the serious treasures, architecture, and works of art that have ended up here. Included in the fee was entrance to the museum nearby. The famous tomb of the Doncel de Sigüenza was particularly impressive. Have to admit we came out saying that it was worth every penny (or euro in this case) See more..

Historic Walled Town of Cuenca image
This historic town is being built by the Moors and this in a defensive position at the heart of the Caliphate of Cordoba. We can say that “Cuenca” is an unusually and very welll-preserved medieval fortified city. Conquered by the Castilians in the 12th century, it became a royal town and bishopric endowed with important buildings, such as Spain's first Gothic cathedral, and the famous casas colgadas (hanging houses), suspended from sheer cliffs overlooking the Huécar river. An not only those, you will find on your walk throughout the historic center allot more old buildings, there is indeed allot to see and to take pictures of it. See more..

Corral de Comedias de Almagro image
This structure is the only surviving example from the 17th century, constructed in 1628. Comedies were performed here during the Spanish Golden Age. Corrals were banned in the 18th century, many such places falling into disuse. The city bought the structure in 1954. It is again used as a theater. It hosts every July the International Classical Theater Festival. For its historic role, it has apparently been nominated by Spain to be a World Heritage Site. Good luck! See more..

    - Great place to be close to nature, untypical experience for La Mancha
    National Parks
Parque Nacional de las Tablas de Daimiel image
In the dry land of La Mancha is this great natural park with a lot of water and paradise for birds. Even on a hot day you will be able to relax close to water and see a totally different Castilla La Mancha. If you walk quietly and wait silently for couple of minutes you will be surrounded by dozen of different birds. (Fast walkers will just see plain water and some birds on the horizon). A lot of fish different sizes can be spotted in the water. Take the yellow tour - it will take you on the water (on small wooden bridges). The trip is amazing. It should take you between 40 minutes and 2 hours (dependent how much time you spend on enjoying the birds and nature). The blue and red walk are less interesting, but if you have the time you can try them out (blue is still better). See more..
  24. 4.5 Castillo de Belmonte (696 reviews)
    - One of the better castles we’ve visited
    Castles
    Castillo de Belmonte image
I liked the architecture of the castle in photos and wanted to visit. When I found it was used in the film El Cid I had to visit. Entrance Is €9 and was worth it. The castle affords great views of the surrounding countryside. We spent a little over an hour there, but if one wanted to listen to the downloadable audio guide, it would be easy to spend a couple hours there. We had a rental car so it was easy to get to. It is a large baroque church. Very attentive employees. Inside the church, several side chapels. Stairs lead to the bell tower, from which you can admire the beautiful panorama of Toledo. The views from the tower are just amazing. From the top of the tower there is a beautiful panorama of almost the entire city. I recommend going up the tower and looking at Toledo from above. - Instructive presented
Nature & Wildlife Areas • Waterfalls
    Nacimiento Del Rio Cuervo image
On its own the birth of a river is not that spectacular, but at the origination of the river Cuervo especially the instructive explanations are worth your visit. Some of these are added to attached photo series to obtain an advance impression. Located 80KM north of the Town Cuenca, is over an hour drive by car to get there. Even the wood surrounding the entrance area is very impressive by its straight tall trees. The paths throughout the area are nicely made with wooden walk ways. Easy to walk end look around. Take a look at the added pictures to become interested. See more..

    - Way above expectations!
Monday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM Art Museums
    Museo de Santa Cruz image
The museum’s visit was way above expectations. To start with, it is hosted in an old hospital dating from the XVI century. The facade, the cloister and the architectural structure of the museum are stunning. It hosts a wide collection of art dating from different times (ancient Romans, Visigoths, El Greco paintings, azulejos collection etc.) and provides written explanations to better understand the history of Spain. At the time of my visit there were two very interesting temporary exhibitions (with explanations in Spanish). Free entrance. See more..
  29. 4.5 Castle of Siguenza (594 reviews)
    - Super fun experience
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Castles
    Castle of Siguenza image
Did a four day daughter and dad trip to Madrid. Spent first night at the castle in Siguenza. The actual rooms are like any other hotel. Was very comfortable. However, the castle grounds and surrounding area was gorgeous. One night stay was perfect. Siguenza is a small town. We had more than enough time to walk the entire area. It is beautiful. The trip to Siguenza fit in perfectly. We landed in the morning, took train from airport to train station, and stored our bags so we could explore Madrid before the train to Siguenza. Train is a two hour ride. The train station in Siguenza is an easy walk to the Castle. Highly recommend. So much more fun than staying at a Marriott. See more..
