Museo de Santa Cruz, Castile-La Mancha, Spain

Way above expectations!

The museum’s visit was way above expectations. To start with, it is hosted in an old hospital dating from the XVI century. The facade, the cloister and the architectural structure of the museum are stunning. It hosts a wide collection of art dating from different times (ancient Romans, Visigoths, El Greco paintings, azulejos collection etc.) and provides written explanations to better understand the history of Spain. At the time of my visit there were two very interesting temporary exhibitions (with explanations in Spanish). Free entrance.

    Better than your average
The building itself is the real stunner. It forms part of an elegant plaza. There is modern and traditional art. The trad stuff is very good indeed. There is also a windmill exhibition at the moment. We were admitted free as pensioners at the behest of friendly staff who encouraged us to leave our bags safely secured. A most enjoyable visit.

A good place to start your visit to Toledo
We started our day trip to Toledo with a stop at this museum, and entry was free for all visitors at the moment. The museum is nicely laid out with quite a few El Grecos on display. Interestingly, there was a temporary exhibition of paintings by Jorge Galindo & Pedro Almodóvar on the top floor of museum with a video showing how they painted some of the works. We were also treated to some live music by a choir practising in the courtyard.
