  1. 5.0 Museo Molinos Mazonovo (3.006 reviews)
    - Enchanting and educational
Monday: 10:30 AM - 5:30 PM Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums • History Museums
    Museo Molinos Mazonovo image
This is a great place to discover about milling - how it works - through history. We found it very interesting and educational. After the educational film you can wander around the property at your own and enjoy the different types of mills. And you can go back in time and be a kid at the interactive area. We had a blast grinding wheat. See more..
  2. 5.0 Bici Senda del oso (1.211 reviews)
    - One of the best activities in our trip - do not miss
Monday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Bike Tours • Gear Rentals
    Bici Senda del oso image
This was a great experience for the whole family. We rented a tandem bike and three additional singles. We were about to cancel the previous day due to the rain but luckily the morning of our ride the weather cleared. The bikes were in great condition and the company set us up with the equipment and helmets. Excellent service and very professional staff. We did the 15 km ride downhill which was easy enough for everyone - even those of us who are not that fit. The views are amazing - a must do experience. I highly recommend. See more..

    - Awesome day out!
    Monday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM Self-Guided Tours & Rentals
    TeverAstur Senda del Oso image
A brilliant day trip, an absolute must for all! Beautiful scenery and amazing views. Super friendly and helpful staff, Maria managed to fit us in last minute, she emailed us after she had a cancellation slot which I thought was incredibly kind (her English is great too, super helpful for us with limited Spanish) The ride is easy and enjoyable (speaking as a non cyclist) and there was a great mix of families, couples, old and young - everyone friendly and considerate on the trail. We stopped for lunch at the café, very nice spot by the lake then continued to on the trail and saw a couple if bears. When we reached the end of the trail we still had plenty of energy and cycled back rather then getting picked up. (This was pretty tricky actually, all up hill) made it back and Maria kindly gave us money back as we didn't get picked up- another plus point here as we didn't expect it. An excellent day! Yesterday we descended the River Sella for the third time, this time Aventura Norte had new canoes which we were honored to test row them, they are sturdier than last year's and wider too! Antonio and his staff as friendly as always! The weather was perfect, an unusual hot day for Asturias. 8. 4.5 Lagos de Covadonga (4.193 reviews)
    - Absolutely beautiful!
Monday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM Bodies of Water
    Lagos de Covadonga image
This is a must see in Asturias! We took an Alsa bus up to the lakes. Starting the end of May through mid October, there are restrictions and the only way to get to the very top is to take a bus. We hopped on the bus at the bus station in Cangas de Onis. We paid 9 euros for a round trip. Busses leave every 30 mins to the lakes and you can return back on any of the Asla busses. From the bus drop off you can hike up to the lakes or take a taxi for 2 euros. The hike is totally worth it. Be sure to wear layers as the climate is subject to change. If you plan to walk to the lakes, be sure to wear proper shoes. Some areas can be slippery and muddy. See more..
  9. 4.5 Basilica de Santa Maria la Real de Covadonga (3.629 reviews)
    - Must see!

Basilica de Santa Maria la Real de Covadonga image
Definitely should be on the top of your list if you're visiting Oviedo. Truly recommend to organise trip to Covadonga lakes including stop in santuario! It's stunning! We went there during the weekend and we didn't have to wait in any line to get in. I'm not sure how it's looking during the season but February was the perfect time to avoid tourist and truly enjoy the magic of this place. It's looking even better than in any pictures. See more..
  10. 4.5 Santa Maria del Naranco (2.487 reviews)
    - A gem, with a nearby twin
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
    Santa Maria del Naranco image
Small and impressive. A 9th century building, originally a palace then turned into a chapel. Guided tours, only in Spanish, are every half hour.. and then the guide closes the building and goes to the nearby church for another guided tour, Strange opening hours as well. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and well worth it. A car pack is a few hundred metres downhill.. no parking near the church itself. See more..
  11. 4.5 Playa de San Lorenzo (2.346 reviews)
    - Easy beach
    Beaches
    Playa de San Lorenzo image
Very nice beach in the center of Gijon, easily accessible, full of people even during May. Water was not that cold but the wind prevented me from going deep inside the water but for getting the feet wet it was enough. Positive that it is central is that there are many restaurants and stores nearby. Practical, simple! See more..

  13. 4.5 Catedral de San Salvador de Oviedo (1.665 reviews)
    - Go see the Sudarium of Oviedo!!
Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites • Monuments & Statues
Catedral de San Salvador de Oviedo image
I was blessed to see the Sudarium of Oviedo, which is housed in the Cathedral of San Salvador, during one of the public expositions held three times/year (Good Friday, Feast of the Exultation of the Cross (Sept 14) and the octave of the Feast (Sept 21). A replica of the holy cloth is located in the Holy Chamber in the Cathedral which can be seen by paying the 7euro ticket price to tour the Cathedral. To see the real cloth, you must attend mass on one of the three dates above. The Sudarium is displayed after mass for about 10 minutes only. You do not need a ticket. The church opens 1/2 hour before mass time. Hope this helps future travelers. I searched for this information before I visited and could not find any answers. Beautiful church, great museum/Holy Chamber which houses many relics including St. Peter's sandal and bag and a jug used at the wedding at Cana. Well worth the time to travel here! See more..

Laboral City of Culture is the result of a transformation project the Government of the Principality of Asturias undertook in 2001 in order to give new life to the building of the old Laboral University of Gijon. The project became a reality in March 2007: it was the birth of La Laboral City of Culture, an open and plural 21st Century cultural city, offering space for all kinds of shows and leisure proposals. The headquarters of the Principality of Asturias Broadcasting Corporation in the old Convent of Clarissa nuns, LABoral Art and Industrial Creation Centre, the Integrated Professional Training Centre, the Corinthian Patio housing the Shop, the Tower, the College of Dramatic Art and Professional Dance, the Church, the Cafe, the Theatre, the Auditorium and the Jovellanos University College, are some of t... 16. 4.5 La Cuevona de Cuevas del Agua (1.329 reviews)
    - A fun little road trip stop
    Geologic Formations
La Cuevona de Cuevas del Agua image
This cave is fascinating! Very fun to see and drive through, with lots of twists and turns, arches, stalactites, and stalagmites. It's got a small (~6 car) parking lot just outside of the cave on the South end with a small playground, and a larger parking lot about a block away from the Northern mouth of the cave. As others have recommended, it works best if you drive through, park, and then walk through to get a more detailed look. Do make sure to drive very slowly through the cave, as it is hard to see the pedestrians because the cave is so dark, and likewise as a pedestrian, try to make yourself visible and stay out of the way of the cars passing through. I used the flashlight built into my cell phone just to let other pedestrians and cars know that I was there. There are several walking paths that pass it as well, there is a board with information about the paths at the Southern parking lot. See more..
  17. 4.5 Plaza del Fontan (1.252 reviews)
    - Small square
Monday: 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Plaza del Fontan image
It is lovely but also very small. It is not like Plaza Mayor in Madrid, it is even smaller. However it is nice for pictures. There were some chairs of a restaurant offering outside seating. Except for this I did not see much. See more..
  18. 4.5 Esculturas Oviedo (1.175 reviews)
    - Sculptural Trail Worth The Walk
    Monuments & Statues
    Esculturas Oviedo image
The urban landscape of Oviedo is adorned by sculptural works, generally commemorative monuments dedicated to characters of special relevance and some of purely artistic indulgence. My personal favourite is La bella Lola in Plaza del Fontán as it embodies so many emotions in the figure and the setting. Honourable mention also goes to La Maternidad by Botero and one of at least three sculptures on the trail honouring motherhood. Estatua de Mafalda, Las Guisanderas and Esperanza Caminando evoke the halcyon days of childhood, while La Lechera, Vendedor de pescado, Pescadera and Vendedoras del Fontán evoke the days of yore when life was much harder See more..

  20. 4.5 San Miguel de Lillo (1.080 reviews)
    - The 2-nd UNESCO site on the mountain.
    Religious Sites
    San Miguel de Lillo image
The Church of St. Michael is very close to Santa Maria. It gives the impression of a small rural Church, but it is a third of the old one. The rest was destroyed in the middle ages by soil erosion. Only the vestibule and the initial part of its three naves have been preserved. The frescoes of the IX century preserved inside are also not in very good condition. This is one of the earliest frescoes in Spain containing images of a person. Unfortunately, I got to the mountain early and couldn't get inside either Church. However, if at least the work schedule hung on Santa Maria, I didn`t see even this here. See more..
  21. 4.5 Jardin Botanico Atlantico (1.067 reviews)
    - I'm a kid and I loved it!
    Gardens
    Jardin Botanico Atlantico image
I'm an eleven year old girl and i loved it. It is amazing! You think your just in a simple every day botanical garden, but there is much more to it. If you explore properly, you find you enter an amazing forest with a river, and then, as you walk, you find an arrow that leads towards the kids forest, where as you go, you find an amazing and super fun park hidden in the trees. It is a lovely garden filled with all sorts of surprises you don't expect. i recomend it for family's with kids. See more..
  22. 4.5 La Ruta del Cares (1.054 reviews)
    - Just do it. Yes, you can.
    Hiking Trails
    La Ruta del Cares image
My husband is a marathoner. I am not. (just an ordinary 44 year old woman who does not exercise). On our 26th wedding anniversary, I "presented" him with this hike. He had no idea what to expect and he LOVED it. We started at 9.30 am after breakfast. We stayed at the Cain (de valdeon) end and walked to the other side and back. I did not do the last 2-3 kms as it was very steep. It took him 4 hours 51 minutes to finish the whole route 30-32 kms. It took me 6 hours to cover 22-24 kms. The views are stunning. The goats are friendly. Be prepared to smile and say loads of "Ola" to all the other hikers. No bathroom breaks possible on the trail. There was 2 natural springs to drink water from. It would be a good idea to take some light snacks to munch. Not necessary, but nice to relax and take in the views. There is no side railings at most points. Did see many people with young kids and dogs, though. Wear a light pull over. Can be walked wearing a 'luna sandals". See more..

Excellent trip, beautiful scenarios and our guide, David, was very balanced and funny. We left at 8.30AM on 8/25/2016, and we walked along the river for few hours. We stopped wherever it was necessary to take pictures and rest. We finally arrived at Poncebos, and a bus took us back to Cangas de Onis. See more..

  25. 4.5 Monte Naranco (831 reviews)
    - Along the route of the Vuelta Cycling race.
    Mountains
    Monte Naranco image
The main motive for visiting mount Naranco on the slope of which Oviedo is located are two churches included in the UNESCO world heritage list. I lived in an IBIS at the foot of the mountain, so I walked to them. Both the still pre-Romanesque churches of Santa María del Naranco and San Miguel de Lillo are half way to the top. The ascent follows the route of the Vuelta Cycling race. By the way some are going on the bike. It's not easy, even Miguel Indurain, a five-time Tour de France winner, had problems here. But You don't have a lung volume of 8 liters like him. Sagrado Corazón de Jesús will be the reward of whoever made it. This monument was built in 1950 and has the same symbolism as Christ the Redeemer on mount Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro. Looking at it from the bottom, I did not go further up after San Miguel de Lillo. By the way, I took the bus 2A back part of the route. I don't know if you can ride it to the top, but part of the way is for sure. See more..
  26. 4.5 Conjunto Etnografico de Teixois (788 reviews)
    - Interesting ethnographic visit
Ancient Ruins • Historic Walking Areas • Architectural Buildings
    Conjunto Etnografico de Teixois image
From Taramundi, a great example of well-kept village from the asturian southwest area, it is worth to reach this place. Very interesting guided tours with live demos of a series of water-driven old engines. The restaurant serves reasonably good food at a good price with fantastic service. Try there “costillas” (ribs) and “tarta de la abuela” (homemade gramma’s pie). See more..
  27. 4.5 Playa de Torimbia (761 reviews)
    - Beautiful beach
    Beaches
    Playa de Torimbia image
This is a beach straight out of postcards (from a distance at least) - absolutely stunning! Getting closer you’ll discover it is a nudist beach, but as others have noted it’s not obligatory so there no reason to be put off it you’d rather keep your costume on - many others did. We parked on the headland between Torimbia and Toranda beach (to the East). This is reached by a fine road running up the hill from Niembru. There is a tiny car park, but this was full so we followed others’ lead and parked on the road. We then walked down to the beach (20 mins on a wide track). Beware: we came back to find a photocopied note claiming to be from the local police saying our parking had been notified to the authorities. There were no “no parking” signs so I suspect more likely to be disgruntled residents (and no sign of an actual parking ticket). But I’d have preferred to park elsewhere and walked in for longer if I’d know it was a source of local ire. See more..
  28. 4.5 Cueva de Tito Bustillo (615 reviews)

  30. 4.5 Estatua de Mafalda (586 reviews)
    - The Precocious Mafalda
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Estatua de Mafalda image
This sculpture was created as a tribute to the cartoon character Mafalda, created by Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón 'Quino' and inaugurated by Quino himself in 2014. The sculpture is an oversized depiction of Mafalda in her trademark thoughtful pose. She is wearing a cute red dress, a lovely smile on her face and sitting on an equally large bench with her feet dangling as she is too small to reach the ground. Fun sculpture. See more..
