Fantastic trip
Excellent trip, beautiful scenarios and our guide, David, was very balanced and funny. We left at 8.30AM on 8/25/2016, and we walked along the river for few hours. We stopped wherever it was necessary to take pictures and rest. We finally arrived at Poncebos, and a bus took us back to Cangas de Onis.

A great day out
I am a solo traveller spending 4 weeks in northern Spain, trying to improve my Spanish and have adventures. I really wanted to do the Ruta Del Cares but I didn’t want to do it on my own. After a little searching I found Jaire Aventura on the web, and made an online booking. I turned up in Canga to their office. There were 12 of us, all but me Spanish, everyone was terribly friendly and weren’t too mean about my Spanish. The guide was very good and supportive which I needed as I am 70 and not that fit. But it was great from beginning to end, even if my sole came off my boot .

Classic gorge walk
The Cares Gorge splits the Picos de Europa from South to North. There is no road access but a precipitous path follows the aqueduct along the hillside above the gorge for 12 km, clinging to cliff sides, passing through tunnels and over bridges and generally being amazing. It is safe enough if you are not stupid. This is surely one of the great short walks of Europe if not the world. Most people walk from Cain at the top to Poncebos at the bottom. Allow about 5 hours at a leisurely pace. Take plenty of water and go to the toilet before you start! In Summer there are buses from Cangas de Onis to Cain about 8 a.m. linking to a bus from Poncebos to Cangas de Onis at about 4.30 pm. Cost is 13 Euros. Otherwise the only practical way to do the through trip is with one of the tour companies in Cangas de Onis, but they charge about 40 Euros.
