Visited the church many years ago with my mother and father while on holiday in La Manga. Quite a drive in the coach up to the church it was very, steep side to the road the driver of the coach drove quite close to the side of the road and my mother was a bit freighted as she sat by one of the windows of the coach facing the steep drop next to the road. We were told that some Spanish people went on the knees up to the church on a sort of Pilgrimage to the Saint. Visited mid week about 10.30am no one there and so plenty of free parking. Easy enough to get to from Calasparra and a Mirador signposted en route where you can get stunning views of the rice fields. TheSantuario itself is quite unlike anything I have seen before. The walkway to the church was lined in ceramics depicting stages of Christs time on earth. And the church itself built into the rockface. Beautiful inside it is so atmospheric with a natural rock roof perhaps only 12 feet high and at the opposite end to the altar an array of different coloured candles in red white and green or blue vases. It is extremely tranquil and I defy anyone who goes in there not to light a candle in memory of a loved one. Very moving place. Outside there is the river and alongside barbeques that are apparently well used by the locals on weekends and there are some lovely tree and flower displays. All free as usual donations welcome. Set in the hillside of the Sierra Espuna, this beautiful building is a must see for anyone in the area. The interior of the building has intricate and stunning artwork covering the ceiling, it's peaceful and well laid out grounds include picnic areas in the orangery with a waterfall nearby. There is a hotel which serves lunches & refreshments. We visited on the last Sunday of the month when they also hold a small artisan market. Nearby are various walking trails. I done a walkabout tour of Murcia, was very impressed with the city, certainly a very different city to march around, I have done a few Spanish cities, and they are much more open planned, whereas this is all closed in, but really nice too! In amongst is this beautiful church, unfortunately it was closed the day I came here, and the pictures of it's interior look stunning, might be back next summer, so I'll give it a go then. See more..

If visiting the Basilica then please take the time to stick your head in at this church. You will not be disappointed the architecture and separate and very ornate chapels a treat. The main altar area was superb and arguably at least on a par if not better than that at the Basilica. Downside, to view the chapels and the main altar you may need to drop the odd euro into a box which turns the chapel lights on. No restriction on photographs that I saw and just usual requested donations. See more..

This church is a must to visit during your travels through North West murcia province. Built at the top of a hill which houses the old town of Cehegin it was obviously created with love and tenderness by the inhabitants way back in the mediaeval days when life quite frankly must have been hard. The views from the church are amazing and the atmosphere inside fills one with feelings of peace, love and hope. Evening is lit up at night it appears to be almost magical. See more..

Beautiful little modern Community Church. Its well worth a good look inside if visiting/staying in the vicinity. Beautiful modern style stained glasswork and multiple striking wall Artwork/ murals. The centre of Mula is very attractive as is this church with the Statues of the Tamboristas (drummers) outside. The church dates back to the 16th century and is open for a couple of hours a day (we went 11.30ish) The statues outside refer to the custom in Holy Week when as part of the festival many drummers play. It sounded really interesting, hopefully we will make it some time. See more..

we came here by chance and it is delightful. Very quiet, peaceful and not at all touristy, well not in early March anyhow! There are some very unusual buildings on Calle de la Iglesia which are built on stilts looking out across the countryside and overlooking what seemed to be a stage. We walked up to the Ermita as well where the views are great but unfortunately the church isn't open except for services. There was a weird hooded statue in the square by the main church. Unfortunately looked a bit like a KKK figure but it turns out to be a statue of a Holy Week penitent, a bit scary! There is also a old jail and the town just a lovely place to wander through. Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Carmen is set in a stunning location on the promenade with wonderful sea views and is a wonderful spot to watch the sunrise. It is right next to a very pretty little Oleander lined beach and near the roman ruins and the Banos de la Marrana and is a short walk to the harbour in one direction and a short walk to the main beach down the promenade or paseo in the other direction and is in the scenic heart of the village. This Church looks rather ordinary from outside but just wait until you get inside. It is truly magnificent and awe-inspiring. I find it difficult to describe and unfortunately my photos do not do it justice. The altar is the most beautifully painted place you could wish to see. It is simply fantastic. The detail amazing. We visited during Easter Week and there were several people preparing the floats for the evening procession. Each religious float is decorated with hundreds of flowers. Although there was quite a bustle around, somehow the Church was peaceful and serene. Make time to visit this beautiful place and enjoy the serenity. See more..

Las cuatro veces que he venido al Estrecho de Fuente Álamo, me he acercado para ver esta Ermita, me da igual que esté cerrada y no puede verla por dentro, pero vengo aquí y me recreo viendo la estructura de este Lugar de Culto y me sirve de relajación. Hoy he venido acompañado con mis amigos del Club Vista Alegre Trail porque este pueblo ha organizado una carrera por los alrededores de donde se encuentra la Ermita y ha sido una mañana preciosa en todos los sentidos. This church is very small but beautiful. It is steeped in history (Moors and Christians) There is a very big fiesta of Virgin de Milagro on a Sunday in mid November also known as the Sardine Festival. The inbound roads are closed and there is a large procession with the Virgin paraded with horses and carts, and bands with young people and children. The beach is full of people cooking paellas and sardines. The local council of Mazarron give out sardines, tomatoes, bread and beer free. A great festival, and such a lovely church. See more..
