  2. 4.5 Calle Mayor (742 reviews)
    - The grand promenade down the main street
Spent < 1 hour Neighborhoods • Historic Walking Areas • Architectural Buildings
    Calle Mayor image
What a gorgeous way to be introduced to the Old Town! Within minutes of dfter disembarking, we walked down a beautiful pedestrian path (set with blue tiles down the center) which led to the most majestic building as its focal point: The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. It is a show-stopper. From this main street, several small narrow Old Town lanes issue forth. Lots of fun opportunities to follow one's nose and poke about a bit. This is the main street in Cartagena and it is the main retail district. The "calle" is lined with elegant Modernistic buildings and everything looked so clean and well-cared for. See more..

    - Just wander about

    Plaza de Espana image
You can park up if you are driving, near the railway station (€1.45 for about 3 hours). Start walking around the little streets, stop for coffee or cocktails just about anywhere. The shops are quite good (so I'm told) look up at the buildings! Still a lot of evidence of the big earthquake about 6 years ago, patched up repaired houses some with retained facades under bracing, to be saved later. Sit in the plaza by the Cathedral and just enjoy. If you are lucky enough the bells will chime. If your hungry there are lots of nice places to eat. 1/2 a day is about right. See more..

    Torre de Santa Isabel image
Just off the main shopping area of Ave Dr Meca there is a narrow little park leading up to Hotel La Cumbre and in the middle of this narrow park is the Torre de Santa Isabel. Torre de Santa Isabel is a watchtower high on a hill built to keep watch for Barbary Pirates as part of a coastal surveillance system built in the 16th century in the reign of Philip II. It is worth a quick detour to admire the views. See more..

  11. 4.5 Casa del Corregidor (9 reviews)
    - Muy reformada; lo mejor, el grupo escultórico en la esquina
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
See more..

Walked to the market in the way to Fuentes del Marques and the Camino del Heurto and came across this monument. Built between 1760 and 1801 on the site of an older temple which you see the remains of. Very nice coloured stone as well but wouldn't go out if my way to just see this. See more..
  13. 4.5 Palacete del Huerto Ruano (7 reviews)
    - The perfect last day in Lorca
    Wednesday: 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM, 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Architectural Buildings • Art Museums
    Palacete del Huerto Ruano image
We went to see the building and the current art exhibition. A couple of the rooms are richly decorated in the Hispanic-Islamic style of the (19th and the sweeping staircase has a sweeping banister with glass spindles. We were the only people there and so could enjoy at our own pace the exhibition of paintings by Muñoz Barberán, (1921-2007), one of Lorca's most acclaimed painters. The woman looking after the visitors was immensely helpful and even gave us a beautiful exhibition catalogue. When three more people arrived, she called us over to meet them, Lorca's most well known living artist, Vicente Ruiz and his family. What followed was a delightful conversation in Spanglish, and we were presented with a book of his latest works which he autographed while the woman working there took photos of us. It was such an unexpected event, a real treat, and all thanks to the enthusiasm and kindness of this staff member. I wish I had asked her name, but thank you! See more..
  14. 4.0 Antiguo Mercado Municipal (5 reviews)

    Antiguo Mercado Municipal image
When you see La Picota you just think that it is column, but actually, that was the place where prisoners were exhibited after being tortured during 16th century. On 1813, all the "picotas" of Spain were forbidden, but the one in Aledo is the only one which remains. See more..

    Ruta de la ciudad image
See more..

    Ayuntameinto de Alcazarén image
Los Alcapzares is a town on the north bank of the Mar Menor.it is very busy during the tourist season, but it is also heavily populated outside that season. On top of the tourism, the town is very well supplied with golf facilities, and acquatic opportunities; plus, at the north end there is a bed of black mud, which visitors smear all over their bodies, to obtain the claimed health benefits. The town is very well supplied with restaurants, including those of a wide variety of national dishes from many parts of the world. Los Alcazares is easy to access from all over Europe - by air, via Alicante, by train, and very easily down the Mediterranean coast motorway (which has excellent links to wonderful and historical cities such as Barcelona and Valencia.
