Castillo de Lorca - Fortaleza del Sol, Region of Murcia, Spain

4.5 (718 reviews) Wednesday: 11:00 AM - 3:30 PM Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #2 in Lorca Castles

A "must place to visit"

The Castle of Lorca is the hallmark of the city, symbol of power and the incessant struggle between the Nasrid kingdom of Granada and the Crown of Castile. The castle-fortress is a place where history is lived first hand through exhibitions, workshops for the whole family, guided tours and extraordinary activities throughout the year. In this space, Ben Sakar (the Hawk's Son), the virtual mascot of the castle will show you scenarios as emblematic as the walls, the stables, the cisterns, the Tower of the Spur, the Tower Alfonsina or the Jewish Synagogue.

    Amazing views
Lorca castle is a great day out for walking and experience historic ruins. Take your phone so that you can scan the QR code which tells you all about the history of the castle and updates you at numbered markers. You are allowed to take your pet dogs although must be kept on lead. The tariff system is good for all visitors, we experienced the full ticket of 10 euros, which allowed you to go anywhere and in the towers, the archeological dig, the gardens etc….but you can go in for free to walk around the grounds and gardens. The cafe/grill was clean, serving tapas and a small menu, we went for the chicken and chips ideal for a lunch out. Seating is inside and out and plenty of it. The staff were very friendly, courteous and informative, speaking some English. Would not recommend for disabled people, quite step in places. Definitely recommend for a day out and take plenty of pictures.

    A step back in time
An interesting day out (although difficult terrain for those with pushchairs or with mobility issues) Staff in costume try to make each part of the castle come to life. Small cafe/refreshment bar. Great little road train to bring you up to the castle gates from the visitors centre. Please support Lorca's attractions as the whole town is suffering as a result of the terrible earthquake in 2011.
