    Museo Del Teatro Romano image
By visiting the Museum of the Roman Theatre you will encounter one of the most surprising discoveries of the city in the last decades. Thanks to the ingenious design of the architect Rafael Moneo, you will start your tour of the Palace of Riquelme, the first building of the museum, and then follow the historical hallway located under the street to then move to the new space that collects the most emblematic pieces of all found in the excavations. Using modern stairs you will come to the second tunnel, this time is under the medieval church of Santa Maria, a construction superimposed to the old theatre which increases its uniqueness and attraction. After this, the second corridor, will take you to the most relevant part of the museum, the Roman Theatre, one of the largest in the Roman Hispania with capacity for 7,000 people. See more..

El Real Casino de Murcia (Royal Casino of Murcia) is an emblematic building in the city of Murcia. In fact, it is the most visited civil building in Murcia. It is situated in the heart of the city centre, on Calle Trapería, close to the Cathedral. Balneario De Archena S.a. image
Visited last week as a family group of four adults. Underground car park costs 8 euros maximum for day. We only paid for the general pools experience which was shown as 15 euros each but discounted to 12 each for a family group. Upon entry at about 1130 it appeared very busy. Still able to find space to sit but sunbeds all taken. However by 1400 it seemed to have emptied and beds were plentiful. Indoor and outdoor pools were great fun and relaxing. Suitable for all ages. Loads of different jets and jacuzzis to try out and a fun lazy river. Caps are obligatory but took our own so don't know how much they cost at reception. Good changing facilities and lockers available however you need a padlock for the lockers which are 3.50 at reception. Didn't use restaurant but snack bar catered for our needs and seemed to be priced reasonably. All in all a fun day out. Would definitely return and perhaps pay extra to experience saunas/steam rooms etc. See more..

    Playa de Calblanque image
Natural beach and coves. Stunning setting. Take everything you need with you as there are no facilities whatsoever but that keeps this area beautiful and natural. Lifeguards are present in peak season. We drove to the plentiful parking areas (which are free) however I believe in peak season you park up before entering and they provide a bus to the coves. Plenty of walking to be had around the nature reserve too, provided the sun isn’t too hot! My favourite beach for sure! See more..
  7. 4.5 Bateria de Castillitos (919 reviews)
    - Worth the trip! Views are stunning!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Bateria de Castillitos image
This is an absolutely stunning fort with beautiful views. It’s so interesting it was built in the 20th century! Read the Wikipedia article before as there is no signage. It’s about an hour drive from Cartagena. Since we didn’t have a car in Spain, we hired a private driver so that we could feel comfortable we knew the price, time, and were confirmed in advance. We heard taxis will sometimes take people but not always and for the same price if not more. We thought the drive would be worse than it was given other reviews, but I have traveled a lot and done lots of twisty narrow roads. We spent an hour wandering around which was enough to get the feel and get plenty of photos. I could see people spending 30 minutes to 2 hours there depending on your adventure appetite and the heat. I agree with other posts it is NOT safe for young children. It is completely abandoned fort with lots of ledges. See more..

What a gorgeous way to be introduced to the Old Town! Within minutes of dfter disembarking, we walked down a beautiful pedestrian path (set with blue tiles down the center) which led to the most majestic building as its focal point: The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. It is a show-stopper. From this main street, several small narrow Old Town lanes issue forth. Lots of fun opportunities to follow one's nose and poke about a bit. This is the main street in Cartagena and it is the main retail district. The "calle" is lined with elegant Modernistic buildings and everything looked so clean and well-cared for. See more..

Castillo de Lorca - Fortaleza del Sol image
The Castle of Lorca is the hallmark of the city, symbol of power and the incessant struggle between the Nasrid kingdom of Granada and the Crown of Castile. The castle-fortress is a place where history is lived first hand through exhibitions, workshops for the whole family, guided tours and extraordinary activities throughout the year. The Conception Castle is the best starting point to discover the city and acquire an overview of its 3,000 years of history. Located on the hill of the same name, it has served as the enclave to a Roman temple dedicated to Asclepius, a Muslim fortress, a medieval castle or the place where the siren was installed that warned the population of the bombing during the Civil War. Also, from the fortress, one can obtain the best panoramic views of the city and its natural port. Everything within reach thanks to the panoramic lift that saves walking up the hill. See more..

    Caravaca de la Cruz image
Well what a fantastic fiesta. May 2nd every year is a bank holiday for the town to which they celebrate the running of the wine horses, a spectacle not to be missed. We drove there, easy to park in the side streets and wandered into the main part of the old town. We were greeted with hundreds of locals ready to watch the beautifully decorated horses run. Get as close to the castle as you can and stand clear as they thunder down the road and you literally watch the crowds part as the horses miss the spectators by inches. 60 horses ran. Visited the church many years ago with my mother and father while on holiday in La Manga. Quite a drive in the coach up to the church it was very, steep side to the road the driver of the coach drove quite close to the side of the road and my mother was a bit freighted as she sat by one of the windows of the coach facing the steep drop next to the road. We were told that some Spanish people went on the knees up to the church on a sort of Pilgrimage to the Saint. A.nd I remember the name of the church too The alter piece inside the church is worth looking at too As I remember. Worth the trip on the coach also See more..

A little disappointed with room, long red hair left on the bed, rawel plug left in the bidet. Bathroom and toilet doors supposed to slide, Had to lift the door to slide it so had to be quite strong to shut the doors. The staff were lovely and the room comfortable and nicely decorated. Very disappointed with restaurant, no choice if you have any food allergies. so didn't really enjoy the basic food but the house wine was nice. Very surprised that the breakfast buffet had bowls of peanuts and other nuts on a table uncovered. If you have a peanut allergy then I suggest you take your EpiPen. went for a walk thinking the hotel was set in a national park, but surrounded by houses really. It is definitely nowhere near as good as other 5 star hotels I have stayed in but probably deserves 4 starts See more..

Recently we decided to visit Cartagena and we started the day with a stop at the Espacio Mediterraneo Shopping Centre. We bought some bargains from Mango, Primark, Pull and Bear and Pandora After visiting the shopping centre we went to Cala Cortina Beach near the port of Cartagena. There was a small carpark at the cliff above the beach. We walked down to the small beach and was amazed by the beauty and seclusion of the bay. The sand was soft and clean and the water was crystal clear with lots of small fish. There was plenty of space on the beach as there weren't many people around. We sat on the beach for about 1 hour before heading towards the port of Cartagena. See more..

We booked this as a family of 4 with 2 teenagers, and all really enjoyed it. They made sure when I booked about our level of Spanish and provided an English speaking guide (Ismael), so we were able to understand everything. Ismael was fabulous! Friendly, attentive, fun and informative. The caves were very interesting to see and it was lovely to have a dip in the river during the trip....again kudos to Ismael for helping to get me and my husband back I to the boat after, quite a feat of strength! The staff member taking photos from cliff tops as we travelled did a fabulous job and we have some lovely pictures to remind us of the trip. Our boat was full of serious grown ups, so there wasn't as much water fighting, splashing and jumping in as I was expecting, but they all tolerated our silliness in good humour. Would certainly recommend this activity for families. Well done all! See more..

The tour at Experiencia43 is just great! With a very enthusiastic and explanatory guide (Paola) we have learnt a lot about the history of 43, the start of the company, and their marketing campaigns throughout the decades. The museum is very nice and the complementary tour in the production area shows how everything is efficiently produced and bottled. Of course the finishing touch at the end, with cocktails and snacks, makes it really complete. We have become real 43 fans! See more..

The Civil War Shelters Museum is a space for the memory and learning about the recent history of Cartagena, which was a strategic point and primary objective of the bombing of the civil war. Going through some of its galleries and listening to the testimonies of those who took part, it is possible to discover the changes that the struggle brought to their lives and how the passive and active defence of the city was organized. The audio-visual with real images and sounds of the time makes you feel in the first person the dimension and the harshness of the war from inside one of the refuges. See more..

  33. 4.5 Palacio Consistorial (251 reviews)
    - One Euro!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Palacio Consistorial image
This is a little known deal, but a terrific budget tip. When you walk in the Palacio, there is a rope blocking the entrance and guards. You are welcome to go in, you just have to have your bag checked. To the left is a little table with a sign that indicates the next tour time. In days there is a cruise ship in port, most of the tours are in English. The tour cost 1E per person and is well worth it. Our tour guide, Valeri, guided us through the building and gave us interesting stories about the building and the government entities that call it home. She also generously took pictures of anyone who wanted their picture taken in counsel chamber or on the grand staircase. The Palacio is an easy walk from the port and one of the first things you come to on the left as you walk from the port up Calle Mayor. See more..

We went here as a family, you will need to take with you a container to collect the mud. We entered from a small wooden pier, you have steps into the shallow warm waters. We found the mud better for collecting at the right side of the small pier. We then came out of the water to apply the mud all over. After the mud had dried we went back in to the water from the pier to wash off the mud. You can float in the shallow water as it is so salty. It is great family fun Tip: Get there early to get parked nearby See more..

    Mar Menor Golf image
We were looking to buy a villa in the Murcia / Almeria area. Spent days and days searching and looking for properties all over the place. We booked to stay at the Hotel on the Mar menor resort and used it as a base. Well, what a find. Absolutely loved the place. We travelled a fair distance looking at villas, but always kept coming back to the resort thinking 'this is where we want to be'. Nowhere came in close, and bought a villa on the resort. You can use the facilities in the hotel, bars restaurant are great. The resort is always being kept clean and tidy. The boulevard is just outside the resort gates and so easy to access with bars and restaurants of different varieties, also new ones popping up. The spar shop is handy and just across from there are the padel courts. There is always something going on , on the resort and has a great community feel to it. I can't comment on the golf side as I don't play but all in all, im so pleased that we bought on the resort. See more..

Top place. We went during winter but the weather was fantastic. We reached the shore of the island (it's easy to swim till there). It was forbidden to enter (there are some roman ruins) so we turned back. Super recommended See more..
