  9. 4.0 Memorial Park (4 reviews)
    - Lest we forget

    Memorial Park image
This is a lovely fenced park with a rotunda, BBQ area, play area, picnic tables and very clean toilet facilities. It's a really great place to have a break from a long drive. The park was designed by Charles Reade, South Australia's first Government Town planner. He was invited to a special meeting of the Jamestown Corporation on November 25th, 1918. He was visiting Jamestown in connection with improvements to the town... according to the minutes from that meeting. Following World War One, communities were encouraged to erect memorials to the men who had served and died. As a result in 1919 three acres were dedicated to the parklands. Public subscription funded the park and it was opened in 1922. These days it's a great place to go to remember those who fought for our small communities and pause and reflect on the price of our freedom. See more..

  15. 4.0 Weaners Flat Reserve (1 review)
    - Yorketown’s Hidden Gem

    Weaners Flat Reserve image
Driving through Yorketown and spotted the Weaners Flat Reserve, a community centre that houses the CFS, the Progress Sort and Save Shed, the Weaners Flat Hall and a superb recreational area. It also houses a Tesla vehicle charging point. It was a sunny day so I enjoyed the walk around the reserve appreciating the development. The art work was well integrated and sometimes a little quirky. From the large playground with BBQ and seating facilities nearby to Weaners Flat own Nessie! The gardens are well laid out and feature name plaques for various native plants. Behind the playground is a lake with a walking track around it. A bridge takes you over the feed for the lake and leads to the walking track. Mrs Bramley’s Flowers gives a great photo op to create memories of this Reserve. The toilet facilities at the Reserve area are also one of the public toilets on the Yorketown area. Compliments must be given to the Yorketown Progress Association for the superb development and asset to the town. I would recommend grabbing a pie or pasty from the local bakery or a takeaway from a local café and proceed to the Reserve to enjoy the fresh air and great food! Also a good rest spot when driving in the lower Southern Yorke Peninsula. Return? Yes when in Yorketown – to grab some food and a coffee making our way to the Reserve to relax, eat and enjoy! 16. 4.0 Coobowie Playground (1 review)
    - BBQ, Play Equipment and Easy Access to the Sandy Beach

    Coobowie Playground image
Coobowie is a small coastal town on the eastern side of South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula just north of Edithburgh. After a two and half hour drive from Adelaide, the Coobowie Playground offers an opportunity for the kiddies, and adults, to stretch their legs. The playground is between the main street and the ocean with a large car park next door and also street parking. There is a wide variety of playground equipment, a BBQ area and toilet facilities. Easy access to the sandy beach behind is available through childproof locked gates. The large sandstone rock at the front of the playground carries a plaque commemorating those from the area who served in war forces. Return? Yes as an opportunity to relax and stretch after long drives. See more..
  17. 4.0 Edithburgh Playground (1 review)
    - Another Family Based Activity in Edithburgh
    Playgrounds
    Edithburgh Playground image
Just across the road from the Edithburgh Flora Reserve is the Edithburgh Playground situated in the V where Yorketown Rd intersects with Robert Ave. A smaller playground than some in coastal towns but still providing creative opportunities for excited kids. Paying homage to Edithburgh’s links with the sea is the “boat” with several pieces combined to create the bow, deck and stern of a boat. Other set pieces should provide hours of enjoyment. A twin BBQ and eating area is close by so that parents can effectively supervise kiddies at play. Toilet facilities are shared with the oval next door as is the car park. The playground has rules of no dogs and no smoking. A great spot for something different other than sea based activities! Return? Probably not unless the playground changes dramatically before we are in Edithburgh next. See more..
