4.5The Blue Lake(1.532 reviews) - Beautiful, even for just a few minutes Bodies of Water
The Blue Lake/Warwar in Mount Gambier occupies one of the craters of the extinct volcano after which the city has been named. Early each November, the lake's sombre blue, which is in evidence during the winter months, mysteriously changes to an intense deep turquoise blue almost overnight. The colouring remains until late February, when it gradually changes. From late March, it returns to a distinct sombre blue colouring that remains until the following November. The 3.6 kilometre road and walking track around the circumference of the Blue Lake/Warwar provides access to many viewing points, the most popular being the underpass between the Blue Lake/Warwar and the Leg of Mutton Lake/Yatton Loo.See more..
4.5The Valley Lake(182 reviews) - Pretty Green Lake Bodies of Water
Drive down into the Valley Lake area and enjoy the Conservation Park, with koalas and kangaroos. Children will love the Adventure Playground. Bring a picnic and discover Brownes Lake. This was the site of Mount Gambier's original botanic gardens and the area is picturesque all year round, but especially in Autumn. You'll find covered shelters and 16 free gas barbecues within well-kept picnic areas. The expanse of grassed areas caters for many family activities & water sports on the lake. You can also give disc golf a go at the Crater Lakes Disc Golf Course. The Conservation Park presents indigenous species of flora and fauna in an environment very similar to that which would have originally been found in the area. The area is serviced by a network of walking tracks, all of which lead to lookouts, providing excellent viewing and photographic opportunities as well as the chance to enjoy the local flora and fauna. 4.5Lake Hart(96 reviews) - One of the best things i saw all trip Spent < 1 hour Bodies of Water
We took a family holiday from Melbourne to Alice Springs and stopped here on day 3 Port Augusta to Coober Pedy. And my god this place did not disappoint. There is a bit of a walk from the car park to the lake and you do need to cross a railway line or go under the tunnel, but the walk is well worth it. We had 3 families travelling with us 4 adults ages 65 to 36 and 2 children age 3 & 6 and we all loved it. We got some of the best photos here and its memories we will have forever. I would highly recommend stopping off here and getting a photo. Walking on the lake is an experience be warned sitting on it in clothes is not recommended and we found out the hard way :).See more..
4.0Pink Lake(59 reviews) - Pink lake with viewing area on the main highway Bodies of Water

4.5Mary Ann Reserve(42 reviews) - Nice park and ample parking for caravans as well Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Parks
we enjoyed walks here with our dogs and also parked our 21 ft van whilst doing the PS Mayflower cruiseSee more..
There's no doubt that if you're a diver and have the permit this would be outstanding. For us non divers it is an interesting site but not one that consumes much time to take in. However as you enter the road to the actual ponds there is a further non indicated attraction that is a part of the ponds. Here from another car park there is a short track over a sand dune that leads to the beach where the water exits as a spring and flows into the ocean, this is well worth a bit of time exploring. Further from the car park there is a walk that goes through the low bush and in part to a board walk that ends up on the other side of the ponds, and feeds the outlet to the ocean. Really worth a look!See more..
4.5Lake McIntyre(22 reviews) - For a short stop or a longer visit, enjoy Lake McIntyre. Bodies of Water
After a couple of hours on the road, pulling into Lake McIntyre was just what we wanted. A chance to get out of the car, stretch the legs, have a snack in a quiet beautiful wetlands area. About 5km west of Millicent just off the Rendelsham Road, there is a lot of car parking all within easy access to the facilities including toilets, BBQ area and a walking track. An interpretive centre focuses on the local fauna and flora and for the bird lovers there is a bird hide. We enjoyed the time exploring the area at late morning which unfortunately meant not many birds around. Of note was the information regarding the use of dead trees and how important they are for habitats for our native animals and birds – something I had never really thought about. Compliments to the volunteers who maintain the beauty of the lake area. Return? Definitely to further explore the area at leisure!See more..
4.0Murray Mouth(19 reviews) - Wild scenery Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water
About a 15 minute drive from Goolwa, the Murray Mouth is situated on Hindmarsh Island. It is a wild area consisting of sand dunes, grasses and wild flowers. There’s a short walk to a lookout which overlooks the Murray Mouth but if you want to venture along the sandy tracks, this will lead you to the Murray River itself with the ocean in the background. The sand along the track is very loose so if you have any mobility issues, this walk may not be for you. Quite a hauntingly wild and beautiful place.See more..

Visit this lovely part of South Australian coastline, fantastic fishing and boating. Swim with the amazing giant cuttlefish, watch how they change not only their colours to match their environment, but also their body can miracously change shape to become nobbly like rocks, smooth like sand, green like seaweed. True freaks of nature. You can only see them in this part of the world. Take a day trip, whiliec staying in the hidden gem of Whyalla, only 30 mins away. 4.0Lake Macdonnell(9 reviews) - Stunning pink and blue lake - best visited on a sunny day Bodies of Water • Geologic Formations
I didn’t really believe the hype until we took a chance detour after visiting the Penong Windmill Museum. The contrast between the pink and blue sides of the lake is truly spectacular on a sunny day. While still amazing, the lake is a dull pink on a cloudy day - we noticed the difference on our second visit (on the way to Cactus Beach) when the sky was overcast. And of course, there needs to be a water level for the lake to be pink - otherwise, it’s just a salt pan. The lake is a 15min drive from Penong - it’s a good quality dirt road and you don’t need a 4WD to access it. Highly recommend visiting the lake and then continuing on to Cactus Beach.See more..

We camped on 'The Common" for a week with friends. What a beautiful spot in the desert! The bird life was amazing, we fed up to 12 turtles each afternoon, watched hawks, little corellas, pelicans and went swimming each day, the river is not deep and has a sandy bottom. Met with very friendly other campers and they also have nice long drop toilet facilities along the camping area.See more..

Worth a visit even if no water due to the abundance of large mature native trees. It’s a popular yabbying spot or a picnic spot. Limited facilities apart from information signs. Best visited from SA side Mullinger Swamp is also home to the Biggest Redgum in the South East. The tree stands proudly in a paddock that neighbours Mullinger Swamp at Kybybolite. Its about 50metres high and has a circumference of 11.6m. This tree is believed to be between 800 and 1,000 years old and can be accessed through the gate at the entrance of the reserve.See more..
5.0Willochra Creek(1 review) - Fantastic colors Bodies of Water
Went to see the Willochra Cliffs. Had to walk a couple of kilometres along the Heysen Trail, and eventually got there. They were stunning. This creek runs from Melrose out to Lake Torrens, and gets wider as it picks up more catchments along the plains along the way until near the old town of Willochra and Simmonstown where it breaks out in to some beautiful ochre colored cliffs. Well worth the walk.See more..
I really enjoy using the walking track around the lake. It is nicely maintained and there are usually ducks or birds on/at the lake. The trees provide enough shade that the walk is even pleasant during the heat of Summer.See more..
4.0Tatiara Creek(1 review) - Great stopover Spent < 1 hour Bodies of Water
Best place to stop going to/from Melb-Adel is in Bordertown and the Tatiara Creek park. You can grab a great snack at the Bordertown Bakery then walk across the bridge to the carpark and scenic area. Great place to enjoy a meal and a break from the road on a table at Tatiara Creek feeding the ducks and enjoying the calm creek atmosphere. Plenty of trees around to shade you on warm days. It's off the main highway so it's peaceful and overall a fantastic place to break up your drive.See more..
