a tranquil lovely place love the landscaping. Choice of plants and components were beautiful. but needs more mulching in hot weather. and needs more security or supervision as our trip was ruined by a group of 5 builders around lunch time drinking bears and throwing the cans into the pond. they were too noisy to cause me not to want to say anything. Magnificent trees in a well set out garden area. 14. 4.0 Weaners Flat Reserve (1 review)
    - Yorketown’s Hidden Gem
    Parks • Gardens • Playgrounds
    Weaners Flat Reserve image
Driving through Yorketown and spotted the Weaners Flat Reserve, a community centre that houses the CFS, the Progress Sort and Save Shed, the Weaners Flat Hall and a superb recreational area. It also houses a Tesla vehicle charging point. It was a sunny day so I enjoyed the walk around the reserve appreciating the development. The art work was well integrated and sometimes a little quirky. From the large playground with BBQ and seating facilities nearby to Weaners Flat own Nessie! The gardens are well laid out and feature name plaques for various native plants. Behind the playground is a lake with a walking track around it. A bridge takes you over the feed for the lake and leads to the walking track. Mrs Bramley’s Flowers gives a great photo op to create memories of this Reserve. The toilet facilities at the Reserve area are also one of the public toilets on the Yorketown area. Compliments must be given to the Yorketown Progress Association for the superb development and asset to the town. I would recommend grabbing a pie or pasty from the local bakery or a takeaway from a local café and proceed to the Reserve to enjoy the fresh air and great food! Also a good rest spot when driving in the lower Southern Yorke Peninsula. Return? Yes when in Yorketown – to grab some food and a coffee making our way to the Reserve to relax, eat and enjoy! 15. 4.0 Truro Pioneer Park (1 review)
    - A Quiet Relaxing Stopover Point in Truro
    Parks • Gardens
    Truro Pioneer Park image
Just off the main road through Truro is the Pioneer Park. A small park that pays tribute to the local history of farming and pioneers of the town. It is a perfect place to meet whilst exploring the town and also to entertain the kiddies and playful furry friends. There is a small playground and a contained dog park. Rules for use of the dog park are well displayed. A drinking fountain with two levels – one for humans and one for man’s best friends is close to the covered seating area. I was impressed with the open layout and the complimentary artworks symbolizing transport, wool, farming and mining and also water absolutely essential for the all the local industries. Car parking, including disabled parking, is kerbside within the park. I would recommend grabbing a coffee and cake from the local bakery and make your way to Pioneer Park for an enjoyable spot to have it. Return? When stopping next in Truro, definitely will grab the coffee and head to Pioneer Park. See more..
  16. 4.0 Heroes Park (1 review)
    - A Poignant Tribute to Truro’s Heroes.
    Spent < 1 hour Parks • Gardens
    Heroes Park image
Every town has a way to memorialize those of that community that have paid the ultimate price in fields of war. Truro has established a bushland-based Heroes Park. Set away from the main road, the seclusion and quietness provide a natural setting in which to contemplate. With a simple area dominated by a flag pole and rocks with plaques commemorating some of the locals including a Lance Corporal Albert F Binning – “the first man from Truro to enlist, the only Truro man at the Gallipoli landing and the first to pay the supreme sacrifice from Truro.” With the first trees planted in 1915 and later upgraded, the Heroes Park is simple yet strangely moving. The Heroes Park is also the site of the local time capsule buried during Truro’s Jubilee 150 celebrations in 2000. The capsule is scheduled to be opened in 2020. With a simple gazebo type structure, a basic playground and eating areas, Heroes Park is suited for recollections both communal and personal. The park is linked by a bridge over the creek bed to War Memorial Park and to the statue of Memorial in the main street outside the Truro Town Hall. Return? Probably not, but I can never say never on this one. See more..
  17. 4.0 Loxton Community Conservation & Heritage Park (1 review)
    - A Great Example of a Community Creatively Using Land
    Parks • Gardens
Loxton Community Conservation & Heritage Park image
The Loxton Community Conservation & Heritage Park is in the median strip driving into Loxton via Bookpurnong Tce. The park features the ruins of an early homestead and from there traces the development of Loxton from early settlement through to today. The three sections of the park are linked by a meandering walkway that takes about 30 minutes to comfortably walk taking in the many information plaques along the way. Throughout the walk, there are many opportunities to sit and just enjoy the surroundings. A running theme throughout the park is the impact of the 1956 River Murray floods and how that effected the community. There is a diversity of native plants in the heritage section, manicured lawns and appropriate planings in the remaining two sections. One which depicts Loxton of today and the third, a display of Aleppo Pine Tree trunks that have been sculptured with a chain saw. 16 designs include a goanna, sulphur crested cockatoo, a possum and an eagle. The Artworks were sculptured by Riverland artist Tim Baulderstone. This is a most enjoyable walk that is self-paced which certainly is a great introduction to Loxton. It is worthy of being more heavily promoted than is as it is a marvellous example of a community creatively using what is otherwise sometimes an eyesore in some towns. Well done Loxton! Parking is readily available at either side of the median strip or on the footpath sides of the road. There are no toilet facilities available. Return? Most definitely to enjoy the walk as part of a fitness campaign making it enjoyable. See more..
