  1. 4.5 Umpherston Sinkhole (1.344 reviews)
    - Unique & amazing sinkhole during the day and night time
    Geologic Formations
    Umpherston Sinkhole image
We came during the daytime and night time to appreciate the unique beauty. During daytime, you can see the beautiful garden growing over the cave like a picture frame to the sky. Looks picturesque enough to have a garden wedding but mind the stairs . Night time we came armed with vegetables and fruits (note do not feed possums with breads) to feed the possums. Managed to feed a mother with the joey & pat the possums. That was the highlight of the trip. See more..
  2. 5.0 Admirals Arch (709 reviews)
    - An amazing place to visit
    Geologic Formations
    Admirals Arch image
This amazing area is part of the Flinders Chase National Park and is a brilliant place to visit. Firstly there is plenty of parking and the boardwalk to the Arch makes the walk easy and safe but for the mobility challenged there are a number of stairs to negotiate. Apart from the beauty of the Arch itself we were treated to a show put on by the seals that had come ashore including some curious seal pups playing up for the human audience. See more..

  4. 4.5 Wilpena Pound (495 reviews)
    - St Mary's Peak trail - do it, but be prepared!
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Geologic Formations
    Wilpena Pound image
The St Mary's Peak Trail gives you unparalleled views of the Pound and is a good workout for fit people. For the less fit, it could be a struggle. We scaled the outside wall first and finished via the inside track - 18km in total. Take enough water, a walking stick would be good, too. And the final bit of the outside track up to the Saddle is quite strenuous - you need good mobility. Worth the effort though. Start off in the morning!! See more..
  5. 5.0 Remarkable Rocks (385 reviews)
    - Remarkable by name and by nature
    Geologic Formations
    Remarkable Rocks image
The Remarkable Rocks in the Flinders Chase National Park really are worth the effort to visit. Shaped by wind and rain over the eons, the shapes are really amazing. Very photogenic and great to pose with. Perched on the top of the cliff, the view up and down the coast line are breathtaking. Parks SA are to be commended on the facilities and infrastructure they have provided throughout the park. See more..
  6. 4.5 Murphy's Haystacks (152 reviews)
    - Well worth the stop
    Geologic Formations
    Murphy's Haystacks image
A short drive from Streaky Bay. Good road. Very small donation type entry fee and so well worth seeing. Well worth a walk around and inbetween all of them - immerse yourself in the incredible way these rocks formed .... I was amazed. We had a hot cloudless blue sky day ..... made it spectacular. Loved it ! See more..
  7. 4.5 Coffin Bay National Park (95 reviews)
    - Experience to be remembered
National Parks • Beaches • Geologic Formations
    Coffin Bay National Park image
My best friend decided it was time to get my 4WD dirty. Coffin Bay National Park seemed the obvious choice, little did I know what was in store. After an easy drive to Yangi Bay the fun started. Lots of sand, plenty of mud holes and a lot of swearing before getting to Point Sir Isaac. I suggest if it is your first time perhaps team up with someone as there are plenty of 4WD enthusiasts along the way. Please be aware of the tide times if doing this trip. Great fun with plenty of Adrenalin. The cost of the Park was $11.00 which can be done online. See more..
  8. 4.5 Bunyeroo Gorge (59 reviews)
    - Very scenic drive and hike
Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails • Geologic Formations
    Bunyeroo Gorge image
We drove from Rawnsley Park Station to the Bunyeroo Valley Gorge and then through the Branchina Gorge which is a very scenic part of the Flinders Ranges and well worth doing. We did the Bunyeroo Gorge hike which is an 8km return hike which winds along the creek many times. It was a 2 1/2 hour hike with a lunch break. The track was well signed posted with geological information provided also. There are many creek crossings so it is a dry weather hike. We hired a 4WD for the trip and returned via the Moralana Scenic Road. I would strongly recommend this very scenic loop is for 4WD's only. We hired a 4WD from Chris's Mechanical in Hawker who was very accommodating and provided a great vehicle. See more..
  9. 4.5 Alligator Gorge (58 reviews)
    - Always see something new
    Geologic Formations
    Alligator Gorge image
Start early to make the most of the cool dampness, even at this time of the year. It's a moderate walk around the Loop, the last climb out of the gully being quite demanding - for me anyway, all uphill. But it's doable. The Narrows is a bit shorter and a bit easier, but in either case, enclosed shoes would be highly recommended, as it is very uneven underfoot - lots of loose stones in the river bed. A fair amount of wildlife, but we didn't see any snakes (there are some, including apparently an enormous python...), nor any koalas. See more..
  10. 4.5 Whistling Rocks and the Blowholes (54 reviews)
    - Rugged & Spectacular Coastal Scenery Not To Be Missed
    Geologic Formations
Whistling Rocks and the Blowholes image
Whistling Rocks and Blow Holes is part of the Cape Bauer Loop Coastal Drive (35 km and 3 km north of Streaky Bay) and provides excellent rugged coast line scenery at the eastern end of the Bight. There is a board walk and viewing platform for both the blows holes and whistling rocks and it was well done. The board walk is some 360 meters and there is a climb back but do not miss and it is rugged and spectacular scenery. 11. 4.0 Sacred Canyon (53 reviews)
    - Excellent Learning Experience for Young and Old
    Spent 1-2 hours Geologic Formations
    Sacred Canyon image
Recently took the Sacred Canyon tour whilst staying in Wilpena Pound. Whilst a tad pricey at $250 for 2 adults and 2 children, we found the experience to be both entertaining and educational. Mick, our guide was brilliant with my two young children and included them throughout the tour. He has a very proud heritage and connection to the land which shows in his delivery. The tour starts at the visitor information centre, going by bus to the site. The road can get a bit bumpy however the bus is made for it. Once there we were given an introduction to the land and shown some basic symbols to look out for. As we progressed into the canyon, Mick explained and demonstrated the ways of his ancestors, showing how they communicated and told others of what was available to hunt and where to seek shelter. It was disappointing to see that some of this historical work had been subject to vandalism. So all in all, recommended but a bit pricey. See more..
  12. 4.0 Magnetic Hill (49 reviews)
    - What can I say
    Geologic Formations
    Magnetic Hill image
Magnetic Hill. I wouldn't believe unless I tried it myself. Whatever people say. It's a hoax, or phenomenon, or simply a trick, we'll let you see for yourself. Are you really going up hill or down. Well. We did exactly as the sign says. And it happened almost immediately. Which I found really strange. And the pull is quite noticeable. On a public road so do beware of other cars. I enjoyed the drive out here. Even for a few short minutes here, this is worth it as in Australia it's the bragging rights that you were here and did it. And then trying to work out how it happens. See more..
  13. 4.5 Warren Gorge (40 reviews)
    - A must do.
Spent More than 3 hours Geologic Formations
    Warren Gorge image
Wallaby's and apostle birds were the highlight also having the place to ourselves. It was a very hot day, so we did not do the whole walk but what we did was beautiful. No water in the gorge being January and 40+ C degree heat but even in the dry it is a beautiful special spot. Plenty of wallaby's which are known to be shy, very happy to see them. But oh, those social curious apostle birds I love seeing them. We gave them water and they certainly appreciated that. With the walks always be prepared not matter what the weather. But in the heat be extra prepared. I was surprised how dry this part of the country was, so so dry. Wish people would take their rubbish with them! See more..
  14. 4.5 Pildappa Rock (27 reviews)
    - SA-The Rock!
    Geologic Formations
    Pildappa Rock image
I wished that we had arrived earlier. It was close to sunset on arrival….. the van & campsite needed to be prepared beforehand. Afterwards we climbed the rock…..WOW! Awesome. The views are spectacular, the rock is Spectacular! Now the climb up wasn’t hard, nor was it the easiest of climbs, more about finding the best way to do it. Myself I made the decision not to remain up there to watch the sunset, yes it would have been amazing….Absolutely! The issue for me was finding the best route back down before the light started to fade, not easy! Risky! There are toilets…. ‘long drop’. If you’re camping that’s not an issue. Lovely vegetation & walks around the rock. Definitely a ‘must see’! See more..
  15. 4.5 Victoria Fossil Cave (18 reviews)
    - Unique site.
    Geologic Formations
    Victoria Fossil Cave image
My boy absolutely loves our native megafauna. This cave did not disappoint. Well lit and marked, with a display outside whilst you're waiting. There's a live fossil dig for the thylacoleo. A rare sight indeed. The tour guide let my boy lead the group through part of the cave and answered all his questions. If you've booked online, make sure you go to the visitors centre first, not straight to the cave. Suitable for walking age kids only, not prams. See more..
  16. 4.5 Rosetta Head (14 reviews)
    - Summit walk
    Geologic Formations
    Rosetta Head image
This hill overlooking Petrel Cove, Encounter Bay and Granite Island has an interesting, approximately 800 metre, walk around the top with an option to ascend to the summit, which we did. There are a number of wind-hollowed boulders and an option to explore the very limited remains of the Coolanine Copper Mine from 1863. The coast views of Petrel Cove were beautiful with the pounding waves making me think I did not want to swim there. We also had calmer views back to Victor Harbour and Granite Island. We were a bit uncertain on the actual path sometimes but made it around the circuit OK. It is possible to take the coastal walking and bike path from Victor Harbour but we drove to the car park half way up the hill which had signs about the possible walks. We did accidently go to the Bluff apartment car park first before we worked out we needed to continue up the hill. See more..
  17. 4.5 Polda Rock (13 reviews)
    - A must experience in Wudinna
    Geologic Formations
    Polda Rock image
Wow! A hidden gem to be seen in Wudinna. It’s a dirt road to get there but not rough. Toilet facilities located near car parking area. We walked the track and to the top of Polda Rock We were the only ones out there which was even more special. Very peaceful. See more..
  18. 4.0 Point Sinclair (10 reviews)
    - Great Surf Spot

  19. 4.0 Lake Macdonnell (9 reviews)
    - Stunning pink and blue lake - best visited on a sunny day
Bodies of Water • Geologic Formations
    Lake Macdonnell image
I didn’t really believe the hype until we took a chance detour after visiting the Penong Windmill Museum. The contrast between the pink and blue sides of the lake is truly spectacular on a sunny day. While still amazing, the lake is a dull pink on a cloudy day - we noticed the difference on our second visit (on the way to Cactus Beach) when the sky was overcast. And of course, there needs to be a water level for the lake to be pink - otherwise, it’s just a salt pan. The lake is a 15min drive from Penong - it’s a good quality dirt road and you don’t need a 4WD to access it. Highly recommend visiting the lake and then continuing on to Cactus Beach. See more..
  20. 5.0 Cape Buffon (7 reviews)
    - Cape Buffon
    Geologic Formations
    Cape Buffon image
Southend is such an amazing small coastal town! You can see why these limestone formations are referred to as Rainbow Rocks located on the Cape Buffon walking trail. Thee colours are just magical in contrast to the beautiful turquoise water below. The Cape Buffon walk is fairly easy and make sure you take your time soaking it all in, this place is a hidden gem! “Jonique Life” Follow our journey around Australia on Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok and YouTube as we highlight wonderful experiences and magical places you can add to your ever growing bucket list. 21. 4.5 Gawler Ranges National Park (7 reviews)
    - Highly recommend a day or multiple days here
National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Geologic Formations
    Gawler Ranges National Park image
We spent the whole day driving, hiking, climbing at the Gawler Ranges. Easy enough to navigate your way around. The roads are unpaved but not bad. We weren’t able to go to the Organ pipes as a 4WD was required to take the road there. Saw lots of Emu’s and Kangaroos. Our first stop was Mt Allalone which was better than expected. We climbed the short mountain, took only 20 minutes to reach the top. See more..

  24. 5.0 The Devils Peak (4 reviews)
    - 66yr old female, got to the top
    Geologic Formations
    The Devils Peak image
If I can do it so can you. Take it easy, up and down. Don't go in the heat of the day. Follow the orange triangle pointers to navigate your way when your nearly at the top. Two massive granite boulders to make like a rock climber on, to eventually get to the top. Check out my photos, it is soooo worth the effort. Sign the log at the top, in a white tube before you scramble the boulders. See more..
  25. 3.5 Organ Pipes (3 reviews)
    - Play Me A Tune
    Geologic Formations
Loved the organ pipes and they are quite unique. Not a long walk from the car park and very easy. I would suggest to visit when the sun is overhead to show the beautiful colours. Look closely through the cracks and then wonder in amazement how it all holds itself together. The entrance from turn off says 4wd but definitely not! Should say 4wd recommended but dirt road is a pleasant Sunday drive - got a mini? No problem! Would be nice SA rangers to have at least a long drop toilet - nothing! See more..

We started on this trail from the Beachport Jetty and walked about 3kms before returning. We loved the Thong Sculpture on the way and enjoyed being by the water for much of the time. There was no shade, which was a downside, perhaps the seats could be shaded when finances permit. See more..
