  2. 5.0 Heritage Blinman Mine (261 reviews)
    - Excellent Tour with a fascinating history and proudly run and upheld by Blinman locals.
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Mines
    Heritage Blinman Mine image
The mine "wheal Blinman" was the reason for the establishment of the town. The town is named after shepherd Robert "Pegleg" Blinman who discovered copper on a hill while tending his flock of sheep. Now some 150 years later the mine has breathed new life into the town, drawing people interested in history, mining, minerals and outback life. People come on tour and over the course of a little over an hour step back into time and experience a taste of life in the 1860's, complete with sounds of mining through an innovative sound system. Our visitors leave not only with an appreciation of the lives of the Cornish miners who settled in Blinman but also of the determination and dedication to a small (very small, just 20 people) group of people who saw the opportunity to breathe new life into a town. The tour is suited to all ages, we particularly like taking families and kids on tour. Suitable for groups with prior booking. Bookings recommended at all times. See more..
  3. 4.5 Burra Copper Mine (93 reviews)
    - South Australian heritage area - well presented for the visitor
    Mines
    Burra Copper Mine image
In the mid-nineteenth century, Burra was at the center of South Australia’s economy, thanks to the mine. The mining ended many years ago, but thankfully, reminders of the mine remain for the visitor to see and appreciate. Depending on your agility and level of interest, the mine area lends itself to walking or self driven visitation. The mine area is quite extensive, so I suspect a combination of walking, then driving from one focal point to the next. For the keen visitor, the Burra Passport would be a good investment (it’s available from the Visitor Center). This allows you to enter various sites within the extensive mine area, and examine buildings and structures at closer quarters. A “must visit” if you are touring in this area. See more..
