A bit off the beaten path but what a find!
Our daughter recommended this out of the way State Park, which includes beautiful gardens and a geologically interesting small beach. It is well worth the trip to get there. There is a $5.00 parking fee to enter...unless you have an Oregon park pass...but it's well spent. Dogs are not allowed in the garden. This a beautiful 'mirror' garden...one side is the same as the other. Box hedges, roses, rhododendrons and many other plants provide a lush garden. We took the opportunity to listen to the history of the garden and the family that started it in what had been the home of the head gardener in the late 1800s and early 1900s. There is a beautifully kept Japanese style garden on the grounds as well. There is a gift shop but we didn't visit it. Gates allow access to the scenic overview and the Simpson beach. Simpson beach had really interesting formations eroding from the surrounding rock walls. From the scenic overlook we watched pelicans and other birds dive for fish. You can drive a bit farther to the Simpson overlook to hear elephant seal on the rocks. Binoculars would be helpful to see them. Great area to explore. Pack a picnic lunch. Restroom available near the gardens.

$5 Day Use Fee
We drove from Bandon to visit Shore Acres State Park. Came around 12:30 on Sunday, 7/25 and the weather was a little foggy and gloomy. You will need to pay $5 for Day Use for the Shore Acres State Park. There are various access points with nice views.
