The memorial was actually the main reason I went up to Washington Park. Please do yourself a favor and see it for yourself. Take the time to stop and read everything there. Its a somber experience and one you won't regret. Remember our history. See more..
I have lived in Grants Pass for over 50 years and went to Grants Pass High School...home of the Cavemen! I am proyd to be a caveman! There are some people who feel the caveman is a terrible symbol for our community. But I would assume that nearly 100% of those people have moved here from somewhere else and don't appreciate the history. I guess I'm not politically correct... LOL! But I don't want to ever see our caveman disappear!See more..
My grandfather often told stories of Chief Joseph. I was grateful to pay tribute the memory of this leader.See more..
4.5Memorial to Yamhill County Soldiers of the World War(7 reviews) - Very moving local war memorial with new WWII monument close by... Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues • Government Buildings
Being a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War era, I stop at all small town war memorials while on road trips around the U.S. This one is located in McMinnville, Oregon. It was dedicated in on Armistice Day, now Veterans Day, November 11, 1923. Carved into the upper granite panels are the names of all of the Yamhill County soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in The World War, April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918. Some soldiers died of typhus following the armistice while waiting for transportation back to the States. On the lower panels are Memorial plaques to Yamhill County soldiers who died in all wars since WWI. This bronze Doughboy statue is located on the well kept grounds of the county courthouse. When you are finished here, walk a couple blocks to the front grounds of the Oregon Mutual Insurance building. There you will find their new WWII Monument to McMinnville soldier Leonard DeWitt recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross for Valor.See more..

5.0Downtown Plaza(4 reviews) - A wonderful place to start a walking tour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
Several times a year, I or hubby and I start here by drinking the Lithia Water at the fountains. That mineral taste is so amazing. FEELS healthy. Then we start walking: Web-sters, the Asian fusion place across from Lithia Park, , then a turn to browse the shops and bookstore near Websters. Then across Main to the Chocolate factory, and up to Paddington. It's especially magical in December, with the lights, but a very nice "date" with someone special, with a friend or with yourself. It's the beating center of this little town.See more..
4.5Scappoose Veterans Memorial(3 reviews) - One of the best small town Veterans Memorial... Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
This is one of the best small town veterans memorials I have seen yet. We discovered this gem while traveling the scenic route from Portland to Bellevue, WA. This is a cross between a memorial to veterans who have passed away and plaques of veterans who have donated to the memorial. There is also a very lengthy and informative tribute to the 52 submarines and crews lost in WWII. In addition, there are some other very interesting and descriptive plaques. While I read the plaques and tried to absorb the information, my wife took the opportunity to use the public restroom between the Memorial and the public library. She then joined me and also found the displays interesting.See more..

4.0Wagons Ho(2 reviews) - The monument about the Oregon Trail Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
The monument portrays a horse with its rider. This is in memory of the pursuit pioneers. I like the horse with its rider. He had faced lots of troubles, but they came to have a home in the Oregon state. Worthwhile to remember the Oregon TrailSee more..
