what a great hike, about 3 miles, but the first part out of the parking lot was not paved, but the trail met up with the paved roadway, and it was amazing, steep in parts, but the views were breathtaking, or was that my out of shape body telling me otherwise. this only took about 2 hours, including time at the top for the rest of us to catch out limited breaths. a must do..See more..

4.5Alberta Street(217 reviews) - Food and art zone Spent 2-3 hours Neighborhoods • Points of Interest & Landmarks
There are so many places to eat good food, drink good beer and shop on Alberta street. The art galleries are all unique and host some amazing work! During the summer time they host “ last Thursday” every month where on the last Thursday of the month they shut down multiple streets down Alberta to traffic and it’s turned into a walking fair where people sell their crafts and goods! Don’t worry all of the business are still open during the festivities. Usually there are street performers and musicians to watch as well while you shop.See more..

5.0Painted Hills(128 reviews) - Best of the three Units Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Geologic Formations • Scenic Walking Areas
I visited the Painted Hills near Prineville on a fine afternoon in June and enjoyed the fabulous views. It appears this Unit is the most popular of the three units of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, and I agree with that view. The colorful stripes and ripples on the mounds and mountains of Painted Hills can be enjoyed just from the overlooks, though there are a few trails if one wants to spend more time. The Carroll Rim trail is the longest with some steep sections; but the view from the top of the rim is gorgeous. The main parking in the Unit has a wonderful picnic spot and when I was there in June the area was chirping with all kinds of birds. The Painted Hills is very beautiful with striking colors of geology.See more..
Welcome to Springfield, Oregon, home of the official Simpsons mural! Unveiled on August 25, 2014, this is the first mural created through a partnership between The Simpsons creator Matt Groening and any city. It will always be the first – so don’t even go there other Springfields! This mural is the product of several years of work between City officials and Matt’s staff at 20th Century Fox brainstorming a number of ideas to best celebrate Matt Groening’s Oregon roots and his connection to Springfield, Oregon. In the end, the City thought public art would be the perfect venue and Matt agreed. We hope you enjoy the mural and your visit to downtown Springfield, Oregon.See more..
The Historic District Downtown Cottage Grove is like a charming step back in time where strangers still smile and say hello on the sidewalk. Things to see include: murals, history museums, specialty shops, bookstores, and antique shops. Two of the bridges on the covered bridge tour are close by. My favorite spot to eat is Fleur De Lis Patisserie. The ham croissants and seasonal salad make it hard to leave any room for dessert, although the pastries are incredible - - and made by real French people! Another favorite is the Backstage Bakery. They do an incredible grilled chicken sandwich with spicy hot wings sauce on a freshly baked roll. Public restrooms are located across from the Backstage Bakery.See more..
This is a quick but worthwhile stop. It is not far off the main road and easy to find. There isn’t a lot of parking but it’s sufficient at least when I was there. A short walk to an absolute masterpiece. In the fall with all the leaves changing it was absolutely breathtaking. Highly recommend!See more..
4.5Sumpter Valley Dredge(78 reviews) - Dawn nature walk with panoramic view is the best part. Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
Visited 10.16.2021. If staying in Sumpter, the Dredge is an easy walk from lodging. The usual mechanical items are there but the real pleasure was a dawn visit to the walking paths beyond the old equipment 'graveyard'. After crossing over a footbridge, one can get a panoramic view of mountains, free flowing river and peacefulness of a rural setting. Fall colors were in full force. Easy, flat, gravel covered paths. The Dredge itself is decorated for a Halloween Haunted House. A great space for that type of event.See more..

4.5Old St. Peter's Landmark(41 reviews) - Visit to Old St. Peter's Landmark Points of Interest & Landmarks
I was traveling on the American Empress and had a free afternoon. The Landmark wasn't on the Hop-on Hop-off tours, but we drove by it and the local historian mentioned the rooster on the steeple. I decided to walk to the site to check it out, basically to find out about the rooster. It is beautiful inside and the docent was great. I was her only visitor at the time and she spent much time with me answering questions and discussing preservation. I would suggest anyone spend an hour in this gem.See more..
The Wallowa Valley is well off the beaten track but has been discovered a bit by a thriving arts community. Those that really gave birth to that have formed the Josephy Center which is a gallery/museum/teaching place for the arts. It is in a pretty modern ex-bank building that is quite attractive. The docents are helpful and friendly and the exhibits change. Plus they sent us to a great local coffee/tea shop in the area. Really glad we stopped. When in the valley you can see why the Nez Pearce were so pissed about getting kicked out! The sort of place you want to figure out how you could stay and live there.See more..

We were on a long road trip and came out this direction to ride our mountain bikes on the North Fork Trail and found this cool feature by chance! It was cool to drive our Truck and Camper on a covered bridge. Nice open parking area at both end to wait for one way traffic. At the far end there is access to the trail and a covered picnic area too. We were all by ourselves and were able to take a video crossing the bridge. Pretty cool when you stumble on things like this and you are not expectign them - the benefits of wandering!See more..

4.5The Brigittine Monastery(21 reviews) - Fine chocolates, worth the stop Sunday: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is a quiet religious retreat, down a short gravel road in the middle of farmland in the heart of wine country. The monks hand roll chocolates and make fudge of a wide variety (lemon, mango, lavender, classic chocolate…). Walk from the little parking area to the small chapel which can be viewed from the inside of there is not a current mass. Continue up the walk to a door that leads to the small gift shop with chocolates, free samples, and a few religious items like books, rosaries and medals for purchase. 4.0Harvey The Giant Rabbit(12 reviews) - A must-see local landmark Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
Harvey is less a destination (there's nothing to do), but definitely a local landmark! Once upon a time, a long time ago, Harvey had a human head and was a common, ordinary Texaco Big Friend. There were about 300 Texaco Big Friends, and they marked Texaco gas stations. In October 1962, bad winds damaged the Texaco Big Friend that's now known as Harvey, and he was bought by someone and taken to Harvey Marine for repairs. But then the person who bought the Texaco Big Friend just abandoned him, and after a few years of sitting broken and unclaimed, Harvey Marine's owner, Ed Harvey, decided to give him a makeover -- giving him a rabbit head and reveling Harvey the Rabbit to the world in 1974. Harvey Marine is closed now, but Harvey the Rabbit is still standing tall, and will probably continue to do so in the future, because he's a beloved member of the community in Aloha.See more..

4.0Tsunami Gallery(10 reviews) - A must see! Sunday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
I've driven past this gallery a few times and never stopped but always wanted to, so I finally did it. I pulled up, got out and the owner, Mack, was just closing up shop...he said "please come in!", I felt bad but he insisted so I came in. What a lovely gallery! A huge, beautiful space. Gorgeous art pieces. And a very large variety of things to see. Mack was so kind and lovely. He walked around with me and chit chatted, told me about the pieces, answered all my questions...such a nice man and an incredibly talented artist! I adore his bronze statues! He suggested I take a different route that went around Coos Bay and included some beautiful gardens...great suggestion Mack! Thanks! Great place! And thanks for letting me in after hours!!! Great place to take your kids to find sunstones on top of the ground. If you are real adventurous you can dig in the free area. As I was with my 10 year old son, it was more rewarding just to wander the desert in search of surface sunstones and we were no disappointed. Remember to bring plenty of water and snacks as this is high desert and there is nowhere to buy anything. Pack out what you bring in so as to keep the area litter free for years to come. You may even see a jack rabbit... We saw a few... Pretty cool but extremely hot. See more..

Pick up a map at Reception and walk up the trail to the Shrine of Our Lady. Quiet, cool and restful setting among the forest trees. At the Shrine there's a wonderful view over the Willamette Valley. On the return trip down, veer to the right at the first fork in the path and follow the sign to 'Mount Hood'. A short hike to a fenceline overlooking hills of beautiful vineyards with the mountain in the distance. Great way to spend a few hours communing with nature at the Abbey.See more..

4.5Memorial to Yamhill County Soldiers of the World War(7 reviews) - Very moving local war memorial with new WWII monument close by... Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues • Government Buildings
Being a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War era, I stop at all small town war memorials while on road trips around the U.S. This one is located in McMinnville, Oregon. It was dedicated in on Armistice Day, now Veterans Day, November 11, 1923. Carved into the upper granite panels are the names of all of the Yamhill County soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in The World War, April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918. Some soldiers died of typhus following the armistice while waiting for transportation back to the States. On the lower panels are Memorial plaques to Yamhill County soldiers who died in all wars since WWI. This bronze Doughboy statue is located on the well kept grounds of the county courthouse. When you are finished here, walk a couple blocks to the front grounds of the Oregon Mutual Insurance building. There you will find their new WWII Monument to McMinnville soldier Leonard DeWitt recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross for Valor.See more..
We were driving through Myrtle Point and decided to stop at this museum but it was closed for the season. Started taking photos of the stunning and unusual architecture when a woman drove up and asked if we wanted to go in! She was very friendly and knowledgeable and told us the history of the museum and the area. It is fascinating and absolutely amazing the number and condition of the artifacts. One of the highlights are the hand carved myrtle wood depictions of life in the logging era. The building itself is an old church and the domed construction lends itself to some amazing acoustics. Definitely stop here if you are in the area.See more..
4.0Seafarers' Park(6 reviews) - A quiet, enchanting seaside park Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Parks We didn't spend a lot of time at this park, but visited out of curiosity. 5.0Rattlesnake Grade(6 reviews) - Better than Hell's Canyon Overlook! Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Drives
Awesome views with rich history. The history part starts at the Old Chief Joseph Gravesite in Joseph. The Rattlesnake Grade starts at Enterprise, OR, on Hwy 3. Driving miles north will take you to the Joseph Canyon Viewpoint which overlooks Joseph Canyon where Chief Joseph, leader of the Nez Perce tribe, was born in a cave on the east side of Joseph Creek. OR Hwy 3 joins with WA 129 which winds through the Blue Mts before Anatone. The best views are here and where the Grande Ronde intersects WA 129. After Anatone, you will pass Asotin, where you will find Nez Perce petroglyphs if you drive to Buffalo Eddy, 18 miles south on the Snake River Rd.See more..

5.0Downtown Plaza(4 reviews) - A wonderful place to start a walking tour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
Several times a year, I or hubby and I start here by drinking the Lithia Water at the fountains. That mineral taste is so amazing. FEELS healthy. Then we start walking: Web-sters, the Asian fusion place across from Lithia Park, , then a turn to browse the shops and bookstore near Websters. Then across Main to the Chocolate factory, and up to Paddington. It's especially magical in December, with the lights, but a very nice "date" with someone special, with a friend or with yourself. 4.5Scappoose Veterans Memorial(3 reviews) - One of the best small town Veterans Memorial... Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
This is one of the best small town veterans memorials I have seen yet. We discovered this gem while traveling the scenic route from Portland to Bellevue, WA. This is a cross between a memorial to veterans who have passed away and plaques of veterans who have donated to the memorial. There is also a very lengthy and informative tribute to the 52 submarines and crews lost in WWII. In addition, there are some other very interesting and descriptive plaques. While I read the plaques and tried to absorb the information, my wife took the opportunity to use the public restroom between the Memorial and the public library. She then joined me and also found the displays interesting.See more..

Take a few minutes on your Hwy. 30 trip through Oregon to get out of your car, stretch your legs and enjoy this beautifully maintained small town park dedicated to American Veterans. We did just that on our recent trip from Bellevue, WA to Beaverton, OR. We have permanently ditched I-5 for the more leisurely trip down Hwy. 30. This is a new park which was dedicated on May 15th of 2015. There are some interesting things to learn from the interpretive signs and plaques.See more..
