My family of 4 took the chair lift to the top ($12 one way for each person) and we hiked down the Danny On trail. We did the "shorter" 3.8 mile trail and it was a lot of fun. It was a little steep at the top so I would recommend bringing a hiking stick. It levels off after about a mile and it's a really fun hike going downhill. We started around 1:30 p.m. and the mountain was pretty quiet. It almost felt like we had the mountain to ourselves at times. The view up top was just spectacular. You can the city of Whitefish and Whitefish Lake as you descend down the mountain. The hike wasn't too difficult and it took us about 3 hours to get to the bottom. We made lots of stops along the way to take pictures so that's why it took us a little longer to get down. After we were done, we found out that they do beginner's mountain bike lessons. We would love to try that the next time we're here.See more..

4.5Trail of the Cedars(534 reviews) - We had to come back four times! Hiking Trails
We loved the .9 mile loop "Trail of the Cedars" adjacent to the Avalanche Campground in Glacier National Park. We found that coming up before 10AM was a great time to beat the crowd, get decent parking and enjoy the boardwalk and packed gravel trail before the hoard showed up closer to noon. We found the walk serene and recharging. The shadows, the trees (Cedar, Hemlock, Yew, and Black Cottonwood), Avalanche Creek, and the weeping cliffside provide every changing views. Looking beyond the trees affords views of snow covered horns and plunging cascades. Easy access to the confluence of Avalanche Creek and McDonald Creek just across Going-to-the-Sun Road. Did I mention that there are even real flush restrooms along this loop trail. Very nice and accessible for everyone.See more..
Jim was a very informative and interesting guide - 17 years at the caverns. It was so fun and interesting to see all of the various rooms in the cave and the various features. The hike to the cave entrance was broken up by a couple of informational talks from Jim and gave several of us time to catch our breath. Inside the cave there are short groups of steps and stops to talk about the various spaces.See more..
4.5Montana State Capitol(497 reviews) - Another good State Capitol Saturday: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM Government Buildings
We visited the State Capitol building on a Tuesday, not long after it had opened to the public, so it was nice and quiet. There is a good amount of free public parking right outside and a great statue in front of the building. The building is quite large and impressive although the dome looks like it’s showing signs of ageing I (assume its copper because it’s turning a bit green). Inside it was great to see into (but not enter) the Senate and the House. You can get some good photos from the glass at the door. And it’s all free. Well worth a visit.See more..

Visitors will learn about the rock art and artifacts found here which dates thousands of years old. This 23 acre park features walking trails, stunning scenery, a green-design visitor's center, picnic grounds, museum displays, everything you need for a fun and educational visit! The site is well-known for its' spirit writing. Soluble minerals leach through the sandstone and cover the rock art, but when the wall becomes wet, on rare instances, that veil of minerals will lift (becomes transparent) revealing what is hidden beneath. On a dry day you may see 5-9 pictographs, but on the brief, wet occurrences, 10-15 more images may appear in better detail. The Crow people believe that many of these images were drawn by the spirits, and whichever ones you see are meant to give you a personal message or even foretell future events.See more..

4.5Garnet Ghost Town(402 reviews) - Wonderful View on days gone by... Ghost Towns
The road up from I90 was bumpy and not suitable for wet/rainy conditions. It has a lot of blind turns and you need a decent 4 wheel drive to make the trip. With that said it was a beautiful drive nonetheless. If the off-road experience is not your thing, take US200 for an easier drive. Views are still spectacular. The ghost town is well preserved and for us it was worth the trip. The nostalgia and throw back imagination made it worth it. Due to COVID we were not able to go inside buildings but you were able to peek in through windowsillSee more..
4.5St. Mary Lake(387 reviews) - St Mary Lake is a Beautiful Blue Color Bodies of Water
We came on Monday, 8/31. Because we could not find a parking spot at the small lot for St Mary Falls, we ended up parking at the Sun Point large parking lot and inadvertently hiked that trail to go to St Mary Falls and it took us around St Mary Lake. It was a pleasant surprise because where the trail head starts, you walk along the lake and you get to see all the trees that have been burned by wildfire. The scenery was quite beautiful. The water was a beautiful blue color and the trail was not too difficult. However, if you hike to all 3 waterfalls (Baring, St Mary and Virginia), it will be 7 miles round trip (took us 3.5 hours) which I thought was a little too long. My favorite was St Mary Falls so if I had to do over, I would have skipped the extra 1.6 miles round trip to Virginia Falls. I did really enjoy the views of St Mary Lake and I do recommend the Sun Point Trail.See more..

4.0Berkeley Pit(348 reviews) - Take the trolley tour Bodies of Water • Lookouts • Mines
I highly recommend taking the two hour trolley tour offered by the Butte Chamber of Commerce. Going to the Berkeley Pit is one of the main attractions and is included with the tour. The tour guide gave quite a bit of history of the town and the mines. Doesn't sugarcoat it. Explains how the pit is a giant toxic lake that kills birds so they have noises and drones to keep the birds away when they're migrating. Also explained the the extensive cleanup that had to be done in the entire city to include the creek that polluted rivers miles away. Basically the entire city is a superfund cleanup site that has cost billions of dollars. They've made good progress though. Definitely interesting to see the pit from the viewing area. The only drawback of the tour was no one was wearing masks and one person on the tour was wearing a T-shirt that proudly stated she was vaccinated by the blood of Jesus. Oh boy.See more..
4.5Palisade Falls(325 reviews) - Beautiful...worth the drive Waterfalls
From Bozeman, Waze says it will take nearly an hour to drive to the falls which is only about 20 miles away. The road winds beautifully through the Gallatin National Forest. The scenery is stunning. Once you arrive at the paved lot....you follow a very easy paved path. It is a moderate uphill walk (about .70 miles) to the falls. Absolutely beautiful. We passed couples of all ages, parents with toddlers in strollers, and lots of dog walkers. A great little hike. See more..

4.5Bridger Bowl(305 reviews) - Last day of the season Spent More than 3 hours Mountains • Ski & Snowboard Areas
Out of 4 of us, I’m the skier who sticks to greens because I’m anxious. This was my idea of a perfect day of skiing. The worst part was the very end by the lifts. Very chill, beautiful views everywhere. My kids and husband had a great day on other runs. 11 yo said “best day skiing ever” he’s been to Breckinridge 3 times, and park city - so I’d say high praise. 4.5Montana Historical Society Museum(288 reviews) - Get ready to spend a couple of hours Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM History Museums
This museum traces the history of the area from prehistoric to modern times. It begins with a large collection of fossils, including skulls of several mammoths. Another section is devoted to Native American relics which includes clothing, tools, and an account of their lives. The section on early settles includes a lot of firearms, but also tools and household items. There are depictions of homes over the decades. Beer! They grew acres and acres of wheat, so the early settlers made beer! Brewing was an important early industry, and a lot of space is devoted to it. Charlie Russell – there is also a large collection of his work. We planned to spend about 90 minutes there and ended up spending more than two hours.See more..
4.5Chico Hot Springs(287 reviews) - Cover Wagon Hot Springs & Geysers
We stayed one night on our way to Yellowstone and it was just a perfect Montana experience. We stayed in a covered wagon, which we think was the best thing about our stay. The view was amazing and as we were looking down onto the hotel, thought wow the folks staying in the hotel are missing out. The wagon was a lot bigger inside and was perfect for 2 adults and 2 kids (and the only hotel room around Yellowstone with air conditioning). I can't rave more about the wagon experience. The shower rooms were brand new and were spa like. If you have younger kids, this is a must stay, they will never forget it.See more..

This hike was incredibly beautiful. We went very early on a recent weekday, and it was not crowded at all. The trail was clearly marked, and we had no difficulty with it. We then went on to Virginia Falls, which was even more spectacular. Other than Trail of the Cedars, this hike was my favorite in the park. Highly recommended!See more..

Lucky lovely day to visit as warm weather in April made for delightful stroll on the trail and up the steps to view the carved William Clark signature, petroglyphs and pioneer signings. The view from atop the pillar is a nice vista of the Yellowstone River and surrounding plains. The visitors center was not yet open, but the placards provided ample details of the Corps of Discovery encampment nearby - and a replica dual dugout canoe was a very keen project work to see. Nice way to spend a couple hours at an easy hike national monument with important history.See more..

Running Eagle Falls is a highlight of a trip to Two Medicine. In the spring water rushes over the upper fall so thick that the lower fall is completely hidden. Later in summer, as flows decrease, the water seems to change course and flow almost exclusively out of the lower fall. It's easy to see why this waterfall used to be named Trick Falls. This area holds great religious significance for local Blackfeet tribal members. The park is in the process of creating a nature trail here to highlight the cultural significance of this unique spot.See more..

Some of the reviews of Jake's had me a little nervous, but I am so glad we booked! Jake was a very down to business kind of person to book the trip, but other than that I found all the folks I talked to to be very personable. Our guide was great with my 8 year old daughter - checking on her throughout the ride to make sure she was ok, her saddle was properly positioned, etc. The horses have done this a million times so they know the way and other than an occasional reminder that it's not snack time yet need very little guidance. The scenery was beautiful and just as peaceful as it could possibly have been.See more..

Was arguably one of the best experiences. Highly recommend Two Top & more specifically, our guide: Henry Miller. He successfully managed to corral 14 of us on 9 snowmobiles through a 7-hour tour. Fire 'em up! :) His knowledge is top notch, his love of the outdoors is evident & his humor & charisma are endearing. Our crew was unsure if they wanted to give up a day of skiing at Big Sky for this adventure but afterwards the consensus was unanimous! We loved it. Don't think twice, book now & ask for Henry, you won't be disappointed.See more..
