Amazingly beautiful!A must to see when in Yangshou, I can stand there for hours and just admire the landscape. I was fortunate to see it in fairly clear weather before it covered up with cloud and rain started , but once the rain stopped it was an awesome sight to see how the mist rise from the mountains and dissapear before the sun. The trek to Dazai and Jinkeng Rice Terraces took more than 4 hours. It is a challenging trek along narrow mountain trails. The scenery however more than compensate for the stress on the knees due to the stone slabs trails. My guide, Mr Liao a Zhuang minority and the father in law of the Baike hotel owner walks like he is on a sunday stroll. He has to slow down considerably for me. See more..

This is an amzing site to see. We went when the colour of the rice was changing from green to yellow , absolutely beautiful . There is a cable car to go up the hill but the climb is not to serious . If you are pressed for time take the cable car up and down otherwise enjoy the views and walk through the rice terraces. See more..

We walked around the area during the day and did the night cruise in the evening. You can book tickets near the sun and moon pagoda and they will let you know where to board the boat. The cruise is quite expensive at 210 each but you will go under many of the bridges in the area, go in two canals and see lots of the buildings and banks lit up at night. We had a full boat so had troubles seeing outside the cabin at the beginning but we lucked out when they allowed us out on the boat deck at the stern because it was too cold for many people. We got good photos on the water but you can get a similar experience walking through the area as well and take your time doing it! If we were to do this area again we would walk around at night as it is prettier at night and free to walk around. See more..

u have 2 options to visit this, either buy a guided tour which is a 4/5 hour ride down the entire river or a second tour which is an hour boat ride with only the main high lights of this river & the moutain scene that is on the 20yuan Note. or u can do a private tour yourself and but just the boat ride at teh end of the Liu River We opted for the half day trip that finished at Liu River. And the Moutains that are captured on The 20 Yuan Note. Beautiful Ride. Great Scenery. the boat ride took about an hour max. Keep a 20 Yuan Note in your person & do what most Chinese Touris did & hold it up when u pass the Mountains On the Note & snap a pic. All in all a great tour well worth it A must see i say See more..

First off let me say you need to be reasonaly fit to enjoy all features of this park. As a foreigner we found it necessary to obtain tickets at the visitor centre some 15kms distant from the park entry. There are ticket machines at the actual park entrance but these would not work for our Chinese guest and rejected all attempts as a foreigner. Similarly the online ticketing facility would not accpet foreigner details. The ticket booth personnel at the park entry and at the main visitor centre spoke no English. Entry includes a return bus trip to the park entrance. You can hire English speaking guides at the visitor centre. The guide (Chinese speak only) on our bus was excellent - even advising against shopping within the park where the goods were more expensive than the same goods in shops outside the park. He held the additional tickets for the boat ride up to the falls (30RMB) and also the mechanised 'path' (58RMB). There are 2 main, one way, visitor routes around the park. One is by foot, the other includes mechanised people movers at a considerable height above the park. These are rubberised belts that you sit on. Entry to the upward lift is via 2 flights of some 250 steps of stairway; frankly I gave up at the first staging area - half way to the top. The paths around the park are now paved and equipped with stairways (in wood and concrete, the latter with a timber appearance). These stairways are quite steep and numerous, hence the need for fitness. We travelled here by road from Beihai. Basically Highway S60 and then to County Road S325. We ran into a check point after being on S325; the officials were very friendly and we were passed through, after showing our visas, in no time. After hours on S60 the motoring around the county roads was a dream - much like the UK country roads\lanes. Gorgeous countryside everwhere, including off S60. See more..

On arrival by bus at Dazhai, we booked the cable car ride both ways. Senior pays 90 yuan both ways while a normal ticket is 100 yuan both ways. The cable car station is next to the bus station. We saw many people hiking up to the cable car station. If the weather is good, I would suggest taking the cable car one way and hike the other way. From the cable car station, we could also walk to Tian Tou Zhai which is a large village at midpoint while Dazhai is a village at the base. We ate lunch of bamboo chicken and bamboo rice at the restaurant up there. There are also some locals offering meals at their place. One must defintely hike here to enjoy the rice terraces. However I noticed that it is more pleasant to walk after 4 pm as the mid day heat can be quite hot. So stay at Dazhai or Tian Tou Zhai if possible to enjoy the experience of this rice terraces. My first trip in Guilin, chosen to a non popular but historical city - XingAn. I have chosen Guilin Merryland Resort thru recommendation. It’s a rather old hotel and a distance away from the city but come with pretty nice environment with a golf course and theme park for kids. What I like about were the nice natural reserve and garden, fresh air on the morning very relaxing. Great for break away from City. Another plus point nice pool for me to relax. Room rate extremely reasonable. I will be back when I need a quiet and relaxing weekend break. See more..

I wouldn't visit from Guilin, but from the rice terraces it was worthwhile. I stayed two nights, but one night would've been enough if you leave the next day later in the afternoon. The bridge is best enjoyed early morning or at night without the chaos of salesladies and tourists. The villages were pleaant to wander around, though I felt really intrusive as a tourist. The Dong minority performances (3x daily, they get you to take a sip of baijiu at the beginning which you tip them for, most gave 10rmb) was interesting. Getting there: From Pingan (Dazhai would work too) I took a bus to Longsheng (10rmb) then another bus to Sanjiang (19rmb). At Sanjiang east bus station (he dong) there are minivan drivers outside who repeat "chengyang qiao" and will likely approach you if you look like a traveler. One charged 60rmb for 2 people but wouldn't go lower than 50rmb for 1. I ended up going with a driver for 80rmb (ticket "included") who transferred me to another driver at the very end who got me in without buying an official ticket, but who provided me with an old ticket (I was adament ahout wanting a ticket just in case, but no one ever asked for it). That driver helped me get a room for 50 rmb at Yang Yang Lv Guan (call Mr Yang2 136-7780-4018, no English), to the right side of Long Feng Hotel (80rmb). I bargained to a better room for the same price (instead of 60rmb) by staying two nights. Pleasant twin room with a nice view of village roofs and mountains, so-so bathroom, but I did see a roach taking shelter on the wall one night when it rained buckets outside. Going back to Sanjiang, I caught one of the local minivans for 10rmb though it should've been 6rmb. Buses from Sanjiang go to Nanning too, but i caught one to Guilin for 50rmb. See more..

This isn't much of a tourist attraction, so there won't be many big tourist bus and hoards of tourist. It is nested in a smaller village, basically the bridge is over 500 years old and not restored, which makes it good for photo taking. It is popular among wedding couples for their photo shoots. The water was calm and most parts were clear that you could see water plants and small fishes. Price for bamboo rafting was on the high side, 300rmb for 4 people, up stream and down, probably takes an hour and over. We had a nice and patient boatman, and we even took over and did some rafting ourselves too, which was fun for the kids. This was only the 2nd cave I’ve been to and it was truly beautiful. You go in as part of a group but you don’t have to stay with the group as you move through the cave. The cave itself was beautiful with amazing lighting throughout l. Prices for children under 18 are advertised as half price BUT this is only for Chinese kids. There is a way around this by bringing your child’s student or library card with you. That may possibly get your child to get in half price - ¥90 per person is full price. See more..

The best thing about this visit was discovering the the Ruyi Peak cable car on the way back. We stopped off there - now that’s an attraction! It seemed like much of the area at the top was closed for maintenance so we enjoyed the gondola ride more than the actual mountain. The views at the top are very good and you can see the city and many of the mountain formations from the top. The gondola costs 55 one way or 110 round trip.
