My first trip in Guilin, chosen to a non popular but historical city - XingAn. I have chosen Guilin Merryland Resort thru recommendation. It’s a rather old hotel and a distance away from the city but come with pretty nice environment with a golf course and theme park for kids. What I like about were the nice natural reserve and garden, fresh air on the morning very relaxing. Great for break away from City. Another plus point nice pool for me to relax. Room rate extremely reasonable. I will be back when I need a quiet and relaxing weekend break. See more..

Easy to get to by bus from either Guilin or Yangshuo. Great staff and beautiful grounds but rather expensive at 100 RMB per ticket, especially if you have a large family. It is a good idea to take a picnic lunch as the local restaurants are crazy expensive. The entire park is said to be well over 8000 mu so there is plenty to explore. My other complaint is that the tropical greenhouse is not open to the public. Still there is plenty here to occupy a day. See more..

Be under no illusion, the walk up this hill may be stepped and not require hiking boots but it is STEEP and high and usually it's going to be hot and humid. However, it doesn't matter how hot and sweaty you get once you're at the top - the views are second to none. Be sure to give yourself enough time here - most of the walkways all join in a big circle but there's a couple of smaller offshoots. There's no need for a guide as most of the iconic sights are signposted. Jiangbin Park (江宾公园) or Riverside Park is a long narrow park beside the River Liu in the centre of Liuzhou. A pleasant park with a few surprises. Odd statues, nice gardens, places to watch the locals doing their laundry or swimming in the river, musicians playing etc. Just behind the park about halfway along is a rare church - in fact most of the building is a rather seedy hotel, but part is used as church. Xishan Park (西山公园 "Western Hill Park") is the second-largest park in Guilin, yet it seemed virtually untouched by tourists. Even better, souvenir salesmen and paparazzi picture-sellers are nowhere to be found. For these reasons, I like Xishan even better than 7-Star Park (the largest in Guilin). To the north and west of the park, you can climb a few mountains and follow the winding paths to see Buddhas carved in the rocks, a monument to a Soviet Colonel, interesting rock formations, and amazing views. When I got to the top of Xishan and looked west, I felt as if I were in the middle of an unending forest with karst hills as far as I could see. Looking east, I realized that I was still in Guilin. These hills take an hour or two to really explore. Heading east, after crossing the West Lake, you can climb Yinshan (隐山, "Hidden Hill"). This mountain gives great views of the park. This hill only takes 10-15 minutes to climb. To get there, you can take bus 14 from Jiefang road, on the north side of the Center Square, near the Liberation Bridge, and south of the Princes City. It's about a 10 minute ride from City Center. The map I have also says bus 25, 89, and 209 will get you there. See more..

We came here by accident and were really happy we did. On Didi this place came up under “botanical garden” so we hopped in and off we went. About halfway through the drive we noticed we were heading away from the Guilin botanical garden in the north of the city. We decided to stick it out and see where we ended up. The gardens were really quiet with only a few other people walking through. It’s really large and full of winding forest paths up and downs, little ponds and pagodas all over. Round trip on the road at mid/relaxed pace will take about 3-4 hours (steps can cut down the distance if you choose). There are also shuttle busses that can take you 1 way for 12 rmb. 90% up there is a split in the path : the top goes to a multi level pagoda with 360 view, the other goes to very calm wooded area with a nice lookout. 大容山每次去都会有不一样的感觉，从山下上到山上坐车一般要一个钟头左右，如果是周末去爬爬山会比较好。我推荐去原始森林的那一段，特别漂亮，如果天气好的话，会有细细碎碎的阳光从枝桠泻下来，头顶是阳光，天空，和树枝。脚下是碎石，泥土，阳光和溪流。
无论是冬天还是夏天去大容山，总是听到一阵阵悦耳的鸟鸣，很清爽，很舒服。

During the day, it's fun to go to the park and hike up the mountain. The towers are very pretty up close, and you can go up in them. The towers look like they are on two separate hills, but actually they are connected. It's very easy to hike up first to one tower and then to the other. There is also a temple at the top of the mountain. It only takes about an hour and a half to do the whole thing. At night, it's fun to go to the square in the park and look at the downtown lights. The Sun and Moon towers are really beautifully lit up at night, but if you want to get a good view of those, it's best to go across the river and get a picture from the Wan Cheng bridge. This park is located very near where we are staying. There is a memorial to Sun Yat Sen at the top of the hill (among the first in China 1920s , and commemorating his 3 visits to wuzhou). The park is nicely located and is likely a cooler spot in the hot summer months; but unfortunately the man made parts of this park are showing their age, and mantainece is low. We visited this park today. What a beautiful and pleasant surprise it was! Beautiful flowers were in bloom. Wide walking paths to traverse the park's various areas. Above all a sense of serenity and peace. It takes about 35 minutes to drive to the park from the center of Liuzhou, but is well worth the time. 这个公园是新开发的，还没有完全修好，目前免费对外开放，因为地处玉林郊区外面，没有公交车直达，所以本地从多数是自驾车前往，说是郊外，其实离城区不算远，坐摩托车或者电瓶车都可以到达．
