Strongly recommended to pay the extra and take this ride from the starting point. One of the clearest waters where the ride will pass through 7 river steps. Riding along with the water ducks, witnessing all the different ranges and rock formations. Best to take this ride towards sunset, you get to see all the beautiful still perfect reflections of the hills all around your raft. See more..

    - Gondola Ride for the Sights

Guilin Yaoshan Mountain Scenic Resort image
It seemed like much of the area at the top was closed for maintenance so we enjoyed the gondola ride more than the actual mountain. The views at the top are very good and you can see the city and many of the mountain formations from the top. The gondola costs 55 one way or 110 round trip. We took the round trip because the hike to the top looked steep and undermaintained. See more..

Amazingly beautiful!A must to see when in Yangshou, I can stand there for hours and just admire the landscape. I was fortunate to see it in fairly clear weather before it covered up with cloud and rain started , but once the rain stopped it was an awesome sight to see how the mist rise from the mountains and dissapear before the sun. Got realy nice photos of the mist between the mountain peaks. Just an awesome place! See more..
  11. 4.5 Detian Scenic Resort (209 reviews)
    - Well Worth a Visit
Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Waterfalls
    Detian Scenic Resort image
First off let me say you need to be reasonaly fit to enjoy all features of this park. As a foreigner we found it necessary to obtain tickets at the visitor centre some 15kms distant from the park entry. There are ticket machines at the actual park entrance but these would not work for our Chinese guest and rejected all attempts as a foreigner. Similarly the online ticketing facility would not accpet foreigner details. The ticket booth personnel at the park entry and at the main visitor centre spoke no English. Entry includes a return bus trip to the park entrance. You can hire English speaking guides at the visitor centre. The guide (Chinese speak only) on our bus was excellent - even advising against shopping within the park where the goods were more expensive than the same goods in shops outside the park. He held the additional tickets for the boat ride up to the falls (30RMB) and also the mechanised 'path' (58RMB). There are 2 main, one way, visitor routes around the park. One is by foot, the other includes mechanised people movers at a considerable height above the park. These are rubberised belts that you sit on. Entry to the upward lift is via 2 flights of some 250 steps of stairway; frankly I gave up at the first staging area - half way to the top. The paths around the park are now paved and equipped with stairways (in wood and concrete, the latter with a timber appearance). These stairways are quite steep and numerous, hence the need for fitness. We travelled here by road from Beihai. Basically Highway S60 and then to County Road S325. We ran into a check point after being on S325; the officials were very friendly and we were passed through, after showing our visas, in no time. After hours on S60 the motoring around the county roads was a dream - much like the UK country roads\lanes. Gorgeous countryside everwhere, including off S60. See more..
  12. 4.0 Xingping Fishing Village (145 reviews)
    - Blast from the Past
Tuesday: 7:00 AM - 6:30 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Civic Centres
    Xingping Fishing Village image
The Xingping Fishing Village is the place that feels like a blast from the past. The buildings are ancient well preserved building that looks like pre-war building with national flags hanging. The shops are commercialised selling poor imitations of beer fish or local Guangxi dishes. There are also local souvenir shops selling most cheap looking over priced items. Nevertheless the area has a unique charm as it is surrounded by beautiful karst mountains and barren grasslands. When you blend the two together, there is a unique tranquil peaceful feeling you don't usually experience. My advice is to have a heavy late breakfast before you go there. The food and shops are forgettable. But the ambiance is worth the visit. To enjoy the calm and peace, you can also order coffee at cafes there, and just sip slowly to appreciate the joy of being in a blast from the past. See more..
  13. 4.5 Guilin Merryland Resort (141 reviews)
    - First visit in Guilin
Amusement & Theme Parks • Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Guilin Merryland Resort image
My first trip in Guilin, chosen to a non popular but historical city - XingAn. I have chosen Guilin Merryland Resort thru recommendation. It’s a rather old hotel and a distance away from the city but come with pretty nice environment with a golf course and theme park for kids. What I like about were the nice natural reserve and garden, fresh air on the morning very relaxing. Great for break away from City. Another plus point nice pool for me to relax. Room rate extremely reasonable. I will be back when I need a quiet and relaxing weekend break. See more..
  14. 4.0 Daxu Old Town (130 reviews)

  15. 4.0 Jingjiang Wangcheng City (88 reviews)
    - Decent
Tuesday: 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
    Jingjiang Wangcheng City image
I came here with the expectations of the height of a chair but came out with the height of a mountain. The park itself was quite nice and the many buildings included many interactive displays and activities. It costs 100 RMB per person to enter (50 for under 6) and comes with a tour guide who will explain it in Mandarin along the way. This is very underrated and should be among the highest. The only downside would be the price as the ticket is very expensive but as Guilin's Non1 attraction, it sure is worth the price See more..
  16. 3.0 Tall Banyan (88 reviews)
    - Impressive grandpa tree
Tuesday: 7:00 AM - 6:30 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas
    Tall Banyan image
I visited this place on my bike ride to the moon hill. Basically it's a very old and a very big tree, apparently 1500 year old. I would say it's quite impressive, but it would be better if it's not fenced off and having 100s of tourists walking around taking photos. The entry fee is 20 Yuan, which is not bad but if it's a worthwhile investment to see an old tree, I'll leave it to you. Walk in walk out 5 min max, here are some photos, if you decide to bypass it. - Trek to Dazai Village (大寨 ) and Jinkeng Rice Terrace (金坑红瑶梯田)
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
Long Sheng's Dragon Spine Rice Terraces image
The trek to Dazai and Jinkeng Rice Terraces took more than 4 hours. It is a challenging trek along narrow mountain trails. The scenery however more than compensate for the stress on the knees due to the stone slabs trails. My guide, Mr Liao a Zhuang minority and the father in law of the Baike hotel owner walks like he is on a sunday stroll. He has to slow down considerably for me. See more..
  19. 4.0 Huangyao Ancient Town (65 reviews)
    - Avoid staying inside the town
Tuesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Huangyao Ancient Town image
Please consider this: to prevent further worsening the environment of the ancient town, visitors'd better stay in a hotel just outside the town. With a day pass, visitors are entitled to unlimited entry to the ancient town so you can take photos, see the houses, eat in a local food stall or small restaurant or have or drink in a bar anytime on a day you like but please do not stay inside the town. There are dozens of family-run hostels. Just imagine, the ancient sewage facilities cannot accommodate hundreds of visitors using modern industrial products of shampoo or shower gel. Very sure, the untreated sewage will pollute the river of the town. Visitors who really like the town are very welcome to go to the town, but please avoid staying inside the ancient town for the sake ot the town. Let the younger generations have an opportunity to see this lovely ancient town (though the town is being more and more commercialised). See more..
  20. 4.0 Jiuxian Ancient Village (61 reviews)
    - This is why you come to Yangshuo
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Jiuxian Ancient Village image
We ended up in Jiuxian because our lodging was here, but frankly, anyone that comes to china sees plenty of cities. You come to Yangshuo to see the area that Jiuxian is. Mountains, rivers, rice paddies, greenery, hikes, peaceful farming village. NOTHING COMMERCIAL. It is amazing and should be a UNESCO world heritage site. All this and you can get excellent lunch or dinner or just a drink in a cool environment at the Secret Garden hotel if you are not staying there. See more..
  21. 4.0 ShangShui MeiShiJie (58 reviews)
    - Fun spot
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    ShangShui MeiShiJie image
A very lively, fun spot to wander, try local foods and mix with the locals. Many of the side streets have market stalls for faux antiques and souvenirs and others have street food vendors and small shops. Wherever you wander, there's something to see and you'll get some great food, although don't count on anybody speaking English or the menus being in anything but Chinese. See more..

  24. 3.5 Jinhu Square (44 reviews)
    - Pretty but boring
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Jinhu Square image
The statue is pretty impressive, but the fountain only gets turned on during festivals and for visiting diplomats. Otherwise, this is a pretty plain plaza with no real attractions. There's a Starbucks or a McDonald's cafe nearby where you can buy some coffee, and in the evening there's usually some terrible singing. However, it's useful to note that the Vietnamese visa office is just across the street above/behind the Bank of China building. See more..

  29. 4.5 Dalongtan Scenic Resort (27 reviews)
    - Just beautiful and no one knows about it
Tuesday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Game & Entertainment Centers
    Dalongtan Scenic Resort image
This park is equal to or even better than anything I saw in Guilin, and admission is FREE. It has so many hills with incredible views if you want to enjoy a hike or find a quiet spot to relax, and the air is unbelievably fresh. Another reviewer called it "Liuzhou's lung" and I'd have to agree! In the spring, you can see the peach blossoms blooming, and in the summer the array of butterflies is fantastic. If you climb up one of those hills and sit down for a moment, often a butterfly will land on your shoulder or knee. See more..

Lots of mid-sized shops in this area. Mostly selling clothes etc. but they also have a huge Xinhua bookstore on there. It's probably 5 stories tall and has something for western customers too. I did not find restaurants where I would have wanted to eat but they did have McDonalds there though. In the evening it can be filled with people and super noisy. Go there at noon. See more..
  32. 4.5 Mingshi Rurality (23 reviews)
    - Stunning and quiet beauty
Tuesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Civic Centres
    Mingshi Rurality image
We stayed one night in Mingshi rurality during our 4-day self guided tour of this part of Guangxi. This place is really easy to get to from Daxin (Check you my other review of Detian for travel details). It might sound exaggerated, but this is one of the most beautiful places to watch a sunset in China. This is not only because of the natural beauty of the karst landscape, but also due to the quiet serenity and relatively small crowds. There is still a country calmness and charm to this place. Eating at one of the local restaurants is a culinary experience in itself. Try their open roasted duck and pork in particular, as well as their pickled root vegetables, very unique to this part of the world! See more..

    Pingxiang Friendship Gate image
....with nothing else. Train drops you off in Pingxiang, and you take an automobile taxi, a motorbike ride or in the back of what is basically a tuk-tuk with some labourers and catch a ride to the border there! Walk up a big hill, sopend a while at the Chinese side trying to get out and spend a LONGER while aty the Vietnamese side trying to get IN (UNLESS you had the foresight to accidentally leave a $5.00USD bill in your passport. That sort of accident can cause you to be cleared through Vietnamese Customs and Immigration almost immediately!!!!!) - I DIDN'T KNOW THIS, so, after about 90 minutes and a Taiwan bus tour group who got there AFTER I had arrived at the gate were being processed BEFORE I was, I started pounding on the glass and threatening.......suddenly - I was cleared! :-) See more..

To get to the vietnam-china boundary marker, one needs to walk through the no.3 platform, the highest waterfall viewing platform. From the waterfall, it takes around 20 mins to the marker. One can opt for a pony ride at 30 yuan per ride. Random stalls are set up along the trail. There is a flea market selling Vietnamese products at the boundary marker. Products sold are almost the same for all stalls. Vietnam coffee, slippers, decorations etc. Price negotiating is a must as prices are set randomly. A good deal comes with good bargaining skills. Crystal Palace of Bama image
I have visited about eight limestone caves in China, and I like the Crystal Palace most. The cave is bigger than other caves; it is deep, wide and tall. The stalagmites and stalactites come in various sizes and shapes, and are illuminated by colorful floodlights. A good point about the cave is that the paths are covered with non-slip mats, and hence you don't have to worry about slippery rocks. We all agreed that this beautiful cave is worth visiting. Although the temperature is not very low in the end of November, but the sun play hidden cat with us so blue sky, white clouds and beautiful sunshine is just a fantasy. Fortunately there are few tourists thus we enjoyed a quite leisure weekend at the golden beach. The next day we rent a fishing boat and expected a rewarding journey with plenty of fish and shrimp as ingredients for lunch, but facts proved that it is our imagination. It seems that wet cold weather is not suitable for sea fishing. But anyway, we purchased seafood in the nearest seafood market and handed over to restaurant for processing. Of course we must highlight that the seafood is really fresh and delicious and equally important cost-effective! See more..

At first look, not so interesting but if you take your time there are a few very interesting aspects to Guantouling Hill and surrounding area. You can see traditional boat building of the local fishing boats, there is a great beach where hundreds of couples have their wedding photos taken and my favorite is the working Buddhist temple. The temple has a wonderful atmosphere and it’s a good place to relax. The building of the temple and the landscaping of its surroundings is an ongoing project. Continuing to the top of the hill you can have a view of the whole of Beihai city. Going down the other side of the hill there are more OK beaches and a few cafes. The hill is at the western tip of the peninsula on which Beihai is built. You can have a very pleasant day out. See more..

The Ningming Huashan Hot Spring International Hotel (very good!) where we stayed chartered a boat (400rmb) for us to see these incredible over 2200 years old rock paintings. It is best to see them from the river, the viewing terrace is a bit far away and tourists were not allowed on the one close to the rock. The boat trip is beautiful and relaxing and takes about 3-4 hours. The boat itself was very basic, but fine. If you have the opportunity, go to the Guangxi Museum of Nationalities in Nanning before visiting the site. The museum gives you excellent information about the Zhuang people (and their predecessors) and the rock paintings. Our skipper was quite knowledgeable too, but he only spoke Chinese. It is obvious that this site is being prepared for mass tourism, it is on Unesco's Tentative List. So go as soon you can! See more..

We came here by accident and were really happy we did. On Didi this place came up under “botanical garden” so we hopped in and off we went. About halfway through the drive we noticed we were heading away from the Guilin botanical garden in the north of the city. We decided to stick it out and see where we ended up. The gardens were really quiet with only a few other people walking through. It’s really large and full of winding forest paths up and downs, little ponds and pagodas all over. We walked for two hours and didn’t see it all. Do bring your own water and snacks as there are no vendors (another plus!). See more..
