    East Lake in Wuhan image
I am a native of Wuhan, and I often take some foreign guests to visit Wuhan. For me, East Lake is: If you like the natural scenery, East Lake is a good choice. Walking on the lakeside, weeping willow, lotus pond, stone bridge, landscape of lakes and mountains, too beautiful to be absorbed all at once. Occasionally you can see one or two wild ducks playing on the lake. When you are tired, you can take a rest on the stone bench by the side of the lake and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the sunset. In this situation, time will be very slow, and you will enjoy the nourishment of nature. See more..

We took a four night cruise on board the Yangzi Explorer as part of our Tauck China tour. The scenery along the river was fantastic. Sometimes you could see mountain goats and small waterfalls along the way. We passed the dam's locks too, which was nice. The daily excursions we made were interesting and varied (dam, relocation village, local market and kindergarten). The Yangzi Explorer is the best ship on the river. However, don't expect this ship to be luxurious. The food on board was not good. The cabins were dirty and worn down in some areas (even the suites. Ours was a suite on the Wu deck). The only place we got wifi was in the bar. But, all the staff were extremely friendly and tried their best. After the Yangzi we flew to Guilin and cruised the Li River. We preferred the beauty of the Li over the Yangzi. If you're thinking of either/or go for the Li. If you want to cruise the Yangzi, choose the Explorer. It will be your best option, but be prepared for the shortcomings. See more..

    Wuhan University image
I am a native of Wuhan, and I often take some foreign guests to visit Wuhan. For me, Wuhan University is: Wuhan University was founded in 1893. Over a hundred years of historical precipitation has created Wuhan University's transcendental position. Wuhan University is surrounded by East Lake and Luojia mountain. The palace buildings with Chinese and Western characteristics are reef-impressive, elegant and magnificent. Every spring in mid March, when cherry blossoms are in full bloom, Wuhan University campus will attract millions of tourists from all over the country. See more..
  7. 4.5 Wuhan Botanical Garden (131 reviews)
    - A Lovely Place to Spend Half a Day
    Monday: 9:00 AM - 8:30 PM Parks
    Wuhan Botanical Garden image
I spent a very hot July morning at the Botanical Gardens. But with the trees and the lake side location, there was a cool breeze at times. It costs 30 yuan to get in. Well worth it. The Gardens are well designed and well maintained. When I was there, the lotus were in flowers. Apparently April is best when the tulips bloom. The green house has tropical plants, a desert room and orchids. There was a kiwifruit research area, medicinal plant area, bamboo area as well as pleasant paths and pagodas. The Botanical Gardens are located near MoShan, a scenic reserve. Also nearby are nice restaurants that sit on the water. See more..

  9. 4.5 Donghu National Park (110 reviews)
    - Peace in the city
    National Parks
    Donghu National Park image
Donghu National Park is a beautifully serene retreat from the fanatic pace of the city. I was there in January, so it wasn't tourist season, but the Park is huge and I imagine would be a great place to get away from all the people and traffic in the city. It's well kept up and has many picturesque monuments. You can take stairs or the paved roads to get around the area. It also has taxis to get you up and down the mountain. See more..
  10. 4.5 Shennongding National Nature Reserve (88 reviews)
    - It has potential
Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Shennongding National Nature Reserve image
The main drawback of this park is the difficulty to get to it. We needed to boat for 3 hours from Yichang then took the bus forever. Unfortunately the weather was terrible. It rained all the time and it was fogging. You obviously can't blame the park for this but it sure took away from the experience. We don't have a single good photo to show for our trip except a few close-ups of some rhododendrons. The only animals that was saw were in cages, that took a grand total of 5 minutes. We ended up spending 90% of our time on transportation and 10% seeing things. I guess it has great potential but as is often the case in this type of park in China, everything is well organized with paved roads, etc.... See more..

    - Excellent museum
    Monday: Speciality Museums
    Jingzhou Museum image
Since I was in a rather small Chinese city, so my expectations about the exhibition and information in English in this place, were low. Even more, when it is free entrance to the museum. But this place just amused me and my husband. It has a very large Exhibition having exceptional good information in English. It was so good that I visited 2 consecutive days to see the whole place. Very interesting history dated back 12000 years BC can be found with the different eras in Chinas history and a lot about settlements around the Yangtze river. Please don’t miss the treasure room keeping the preserved body. So interesting! Very recommended! See more..

    - Visit to the starting point of the Silk Road
    Ancient Ruins
The drum and bell Tower image
Went to Xi'an for couple of days to visit girlfriend and also tour around her hometown. Went to the Drum and Bell Tower, which is located in the Southern part of the CBD, quite fascinating buildings considered to be at least over 500 years old. Xi'an is like a living history book as it had been the capital of China for many dynasties and thus you might be surprised of what this ancient city could offer. See more..
  21. 4.5 Wudang Mountain (30 reviews)
    - Take as long as you need!
    Mountains • Geologic Formations
    Wudang Mountain image
Seeing Mount Wudangshan has been an ambition of mine for years and despite the difficulty posed getting here due to its proximity to towns etc I can safely say it was straightforward and well worth the expense. Firstly accessing the mountain is easy, there is a fleet of buses taking you to a cable care which offers amazing views all the way up. You can take as long as you like but the real scenes are at the top in the main temple buildings where the monks live. The trails are tricky but well worth the effort if your inclined (as they are) but if iyou prefer to relax as you go then thats easily done. The facilities and guides are many and courteous and the views are stunning. It really is out the way but that is actually its main charm! See more..
  22. 4.5 Hankou Modern Buildings (24 reviews)
    - some western masterpieces along the river front and pedestian walk
    Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
    Hankou Modern Buildings image
I would suggest start walking along the pedestrian walk (Hanjiang Rd, Metro line 2) to the water front. Many Art Deco and older classic buildings can be found. My favourites are the Grande Custom House (clock tower) at the end of the pedestrian walk/ water front, the old HSBC building and the old Citibank building along the water front. Also the Bank of China building at Hanjiang road junction is very classy. And there's a western mansion which used to be the home of the only regional English newspaper. Although it's not as Grande as the Shanghai's Bund, the previous presence of these great foreign companies prove the significance of Wuhan as a trading port. Gives you a flavour of it's heritage. Chexi Scenic Folklore image
Okay so we know it's all put on for visitors but during our visit we turned out to be the big attraction with the locals who never seemed to have seen a Western face. A distillery turned out the local hooch and offered deadly free samples, a school kids play had traditional Chinese music and more of the hooch, the scenery if stunning and lunch served in a local bar included tiny fried fish a little boy pulled out of the nearby stream in a bucket. 25. 4.5 Qingjiang River Gallery Scenic Resort (15 reviews)
    - Amazing Trip
Monday: 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM National Parks • Forests
Qingjiang River Gallery Scenic Resort image
This was a part of our trip organized by our tour operator. I along with my family really enjoyed the trip. It consisted of a boat tour through the river and mountains (they say it 'gallery' in English). The boats looks tradition Chinese boats but powered by engines, and fully air conditioned, 2 decks). The scenic beauty is excellent. Actually the trip consisted of 2 more places during the boat trip. One is a cave placed high above the mountain (I guess 130 m in height). There are some Buddha statues there. There are stairs upto the peak, but a very exhausting job. My son complained but finished the tour. I was amazed to see that little local kids also finished the tour (full of energy!!!). The next destination was a cultural centre and a village. We took lunch there and returned by a similar boat. 26. 4.0 Yellow Crane Tower (1.350 reviews)
    - A great introduction to Chinese culture
Monday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
    Yellow Crane Tower image
This landmark, although not the original, has been built in the traditional pagoda style architecture. It is surrounded by a large park, which in itself is very pleasant, especially in the summer when it is hot. There are ponds and even cooling mist sprays in the shady areas. Once inside the tower, you walk up a flight of stairs to each level, and each level has beautiful decorative walls and ceilings. There are places you can buy souvenirs, I think it is on the third level. Once you reach the top, it is an open style balcony which gives panoramic views of the city of Wuhan. I was there in early September 2019. I found it very enjoyable. Many Chinese people, couples and families visit. A great introduction to Chinese culture. See more..

    Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge image
I am sure that you won't know how wonderful this day was ! We went to the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge on today's morning, when you are standing under the bridge, you will think it's very long , but actually it's only about 1.67 km, I think for an adult it may takes you half an hour to take some photos while walking across the bridge from the bridgehead to the end of the whole bridge. (The bridgehead was under the bridge, you need to take the elevator.) We had a dinner then ,the hot dry noodles there were so dilicious! I love it! The spicy crayfish there was also very nice , I recommend you to have a try!!! When we got to the Yangtze River embankment it was evening, we saw the ships and the reflection of the bridge clearly, they were so beautiful ! I could even feel the wind which was come with the smell of the water went across your face! That's pretty cool!!! This was the last day we went to Wuhan I love there so much that I am sure I will visit here again as soon as I can!!! See more..

It is a daily custom of many Wuhan citizens to come to Guiyuan temple to pray for blessings. On the fifth day of the lunar new year, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims come here to "rob the head of incense" and worship the God of wealth. The most distinctive feature of Guiyuan temple is the 500 golden Arhats in arhat hall. You can try to count the Arhats and see how your luck is. See more..
