   This mall is very big and clean! Ran into inside the mall because it was 38 degrees out there in Tianjin! My friend and I had refreshing desserts at Honeymoon Desserts, taste really good! Then I did my hair done at MQ Studio Salon, the stylists seems pretty good with the technique!    I lived there for one year and studied Chinese. Nankai looke like a park with 2 little pods and full of flowers and greenery, and generally a pleasant place to pass a little time. The atmospere is really pieceful. After walking around you can go to student's dining hall to enjoy Chinese food. It's super cheap and portions are really big. We used to go there to eat lunch and sometimes dinner. For vegetarians there is also a wide choise of dishes as dumplings with vegetables ( many kinds), noodles, toufu, vegetarian sushi. I miss Nankai University a lot! Almost forgot from the western gate it's short walk to a beautiful park which is also worth to visit. See more..

   As soon as you walk in the lobby you notice 3 things. The immense winding staircase on the left, the huge tea atrium ahead and the mural of the harbor over the front desk.    We found that a lot of restaurants we wanted to try were in Joy City or nearby. We kept passing by this mall as well as we were walking to the sights around it like the St. Joseph's Cathedral, river and Five Great Avenues. Yingkoudao is the closest metro station but the signs are impossible to sign or simply don't exist! We found you have to enter the malls and look for small signs to find entrances which can be tricky. See more..

    Came to this mall as it was close by for lunch. Forget the name of restaurant but food was excellent, had very lean Beijing duck, well done. Delicious. Pork ribs and others. The mall has lots of luxury brands such as Prada, Burberry, etc. Although I didn’t buy anything, the mall is exceptionally clean and well done.     This is a really good area if you like your culture...there is the fantastic history museum, the grand theatre, Tianjin library and the Science and Technology museum here. There is a small lake in the middle, which was frozen over in February. Just off from here is big Galaxy Mall...and there are places to eat and drink (my favourite being the Black Swan coffee shop) In this area you will just see people aimlessly wandering, sitting on the grass, jogging, doing Tai Chi, etc, etc....a nice place to be in Tianjin.     Impressive ancient craftmanship and architecture Temple worth visiting. The 16m tall standing Guanyin clay figure is magnificent and unbelievablely still being preserved. The woodern Pavillion housing the Standing Guanyin with traditional architecture and interlocking woodern design is exhilarating. Ancient wall paintings and calligraphy are still preserved. A huge area with front, middle and back courts and left and right courts with smaller buildings housing other buddhas. Took us almost two hours to visit each court. A majestic herritage that had been preserved. It is amazing that the Temple had escaped the defacing or defiguring of buddha figures during the Cultural Revolution of the 1970s.     It rather big national park, I wouldn't say that there are lots of picturesque views but it is lovely place. We advise to visit it whole family even when children are small.     St Joseph’s Cathedral (aka, Xikai Church) has both a very beautiful façade and interior. On the outside, I like the colour pattern of the brickwork. The church was originally built over the 1913 to 1916 period and required significant rebuilding in the 1980s to repair and replace parts destroyed in 1966 by the Red Guards and the Tangshan earthquake of 1976. I like the light pastel colours (possibly because I am partial to blue) of the interior. They make for a bright church on the inside. At the far end from the altar, there is a beautiful organ.     The 1920s/30s residence of the former emperor Pu Yi reveals a lot about the man but also about the upper class of Chinese society in a period of rapid change and westernization. The mansion has only recently been faithfully restored primarily with foreign donations.. The main house contains the family living quarters, Pu-yi's and his wife's offices, and a large meeting hall where Pu-yi met often with his supporters. Pu-yi was ultimately smuggled out of the home in the trunk of a car by his Japanese collaborators.     Visited Huangyaguan for a daytrip from Tianjin. It wasn't that convenient but highly recommended if you have time in Tianjin. Do note that there are buses that head straight to Huangyaguan from Tianjin via Tongsha bus station. These buses depart at fixed timings though, there should be a 710 and 1010 bus in the morning. Overall journey takes about 2.5hrs. I had expected the place to be touristy but it wasn't so I had to engage someone to bring me up to the top to hike down. The great wall was quiet and I dont think I saw more than 10 people during my hike. Total distance was 2.4km and would take you about 1.5 to 2 hrs to finish.Took lots of nice photos as there was nobody around at all Going back to Tianjin was troublesome but try to catch a bus to bring you to the Jizhou Passsenger station and grab a bus to Tianjin.
