Porcelain House, Tianjin Region, China

4.0 (213 reviews) Thursday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent Ranking #12 in Tianjin Architectural Buildings

Not everyone’s “cup” of tea...

It is one of the main attractions in Tianjin and quite unique. Worth the visit and the entry fee, but certainly not everyone style. Lots of old furniture inside displayed in some random way, but still worth to visit.

    Porcelain house of an eccentric
An extremely and uniquely decorated building. It is likely the world’s most luxurious “Porcelain Building.” Many types of porcelain were used in the decoration of the building.

So Tacky but Fun for Some
This is probably the tackiest place I've ever been! All walls inside and out are covered with grout/cement/porcelain. You will appreciate their commitment to getting this done but it is an eyefull! They have several creations throughout the house and lots of furniture that was supposedly used by royalty towards the end of the Qing Dynasty which makes the house look very crowded. We felt paying 50 yuan per person was not worth it to go in after paying for it. You can get good pictures from the street and enjoy some of the creations outside the fence. Closest metro is Hepinglu station and we had walked here from the five great great avenues via St. Joseph's Cathedral. The locals seemed to enjoy it and I don't want to rain on your parade if you want to see this installation but proceed with caution (or an open mind).
