   The trek to Dazai and Jinkeng Rice Terraces took more than 4 hours. It is a challenging trek along narrow mountain trails. The scenery however more than compensate for the stress on the knees due to the stone slabs trails. My guide, Mr Liao a Zhuang minority and the father in law of the Baike hotel owner walks like he is on a sunday stroll. He has to slow down considerably for me. See more..

   My boyfriend and I were on a time constraint to see the rice villages. We only had a day and needed to get to the airport by 230 for a flight. I set it up about a month prior with Andy to pick us up in our hotel in yangshou, visit the rice terraces for a few hours, and drop us off at the airport.    Long Sheng a great place to visit for nature and sight seeing. The scene there would not disappoited you. Also compliment to our Tour Guide, Charles. He is a very trustworthy tour guide. He planned everything very well for our trip and everything went smoothly. He tried his best to accommodate to our request and made it a very comfortable and hassle free trip for us.    We visited the Huangluo yao village - The long hair village. The village is not that spectacular but the show which the ladies give is excellent. The show give you a climpse into their cultue and the highlight is when they reveal their long hair. The traditional clothes is very colorful and the ladies look great in it.It is realy worth visiting this village for the show. See more..

   The trip there is an absolute must if you are in the area. The parking lot is approx. 300m below the peak and the ascending can be quite tough if you are not used to the weather and the physical exercise.    This is an amzing site to see. We went when the colour of the rice was changing from green to yellow , absolutely beautiful . There is a cable car to go up the hill but the climb is not to serious . If you are pressed for time take the cable car up and down otherwise enjoy the views and walk through the rice terraces.    We walked here when visiting the rice terraces. Very interesting to wander around and get a feel for life here. Lots of photo opportunities.    On arrival by bus at Dazhai, we booked the cable car ride both ways. Senior pays 90 yuan both ways while a normal ticket is 100 yuan both ways. The cable car station is next to the bus station. We saw many people hiking up to the cable car station. If the weather is good, I would suggest taking the cable car one way and hike the other way. From the cable car station, we could also walk to Tian Tou Zhai which is a large village at midpoint while Dazhai is a village at the base. We ate lunch of bamboo chicken and bamboo rice at the restaurant up there. There are also some locals offering meals at their place. One must defintely hike here to enjoy the rice terraces. However I noticed that it is more pleasant to walk after 4 pm as the mid day heat can be quite hot. So stay at Dazhai or Tian Tou Zhai if possible to enjoy the experience of this rice terraces. We enjoyed many highlights and moments of awe inspiring scenes at each place we visited. Our tour guides Cici (Beijing), Wendy (X'ian) and Lee (Guilin & Yangshao) shared lots of Chinese culture and great stories of Chinese history with us.The Great Wall will never cease to amaze and the Dragon Backbone Rice Paddy Terraces were examples of amazing determination.     It was a long walk to this tea house managed by their own country people. The vegetable are planted by them and very fresh. You will be surprised that you get free wifi in such mountain side.     This is a great place to stay after you visit the rice terraces. The hotspring is soothing, the view is spectacular, the air is crisp and clean. Wake up early and you will see mists surrounding the mountain. Take a 1-2 hour hike into the crab valley and eat at the local farmers house. They have chicken, goose, duck, fish, yam, wild veggies and they are all yummy. Wild honey, mushroom as well as other goods are for sale as well. His is a fun place to visit if you like hot springs.     An interesting venue to visit when going to the Longji Rice Terraces... this is a must do , as there isn't anywhere else in the world you have the chance to see this. The cultural performance is a must-see as that is the summary of what you can see of the ladies hair, their culture with some fun thrown in. The women embroidery works are of good quality ..but choose carefully as some like the poaches are machine-made mass produced ones. How do you know is machine made? a small poach costing RMB25 (S$5) are definitely mass-produced type, as it can be bought elsewhere. Try out the local bamboo cooked chicken and river fish cuisine at restaurant along the river, just along the road leading to the village entrance. The bamboo bridge leading to the village is rickety and swings about... not for those on wheelchair. Have fun :) See more..

    This is a small village on the way to the Rice Terraces. It is a tour bus lunch stop. Food is good. The women perform a dance to ask for divine intervention for a good rice harvest. Then, They take off their hats, and unwind their hair which in some cases is longer than they are tall. They were heavy silver earrings that are polished mirror smooth.
