  1. 5.0 Arches National Park (10.8k reviews)
    - Amazing
Spent More than 3 hours National Parks • Hiking Trails • Geologic Formations
    Arches National Park image
Get your timed entry pass $2 at recreation.gov in advance, OR many passes open up the day before. I would still advise an early slot as when we left around 1230, the queue was over 90 min long according to the park signs. Something is not working smoothly! We did the viewing point to Delicate Arch, walked to Landscape Arch and the two others enroute and finished with the windows and double arch. I had wanted to hike to Delicate after reading that it had the 'best payoff' but I'm glad we didn't. There are plenty of arches to see without dragging your family in 100deg heat that far. Tip - go the Moab diner after your hike. Amazing diner food and service. Very popular. See more..
  2. 5.0 The Narrows (3.626 reviews)
    - One of the Greatest Day Hike Trails in the USA
    National Parks • Hiking Trails
    The Narrows image
True to its name, The Narrows is the narrowest section of Zion Canyon. This challenging hike is one of Zion’s most popular trails, taking you through towering walls of Navajo sandstone that rise up to 2,000 feet. Along the 16-mile hike, you’ll be rewarded with nature’s raw beauty, from the stunning zebra stripes adorning the cliffs to the spectacular slot canyon scenery. Be prepared with water shoes, walking sticks, and waterproof bags as the trail will take you through the Virgin River. Check for flash flood warnings before starting and consider a private tour to tackle the trail safely with a professional guide. – Tripadvisor See more..

We were amazed by these irregularly eroded vermilion-colored rocks and spires. The contrast between the dazzling red color of the rocks, the green of the Ponderosa pines and the blue of the sky was breathtaking!!! Unfortunately, we did not have time to hike the trails, which have been developed to discover this magnificent canyon (Pink Ledges, Hoodoo, Birdseye,Golden wall). For bikers, it’s also possible to discover the canyon on specific trails (Thunder Mountain, Red Canyon Bicycle trail). See more..

One of my favorite spots in the park. Easy access right up to the base and the surrounding structure. Or you can view it from the parking lot area if you are not very mobile. Watch Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade before venturing into the park and this location. It will enhance your appreciation of the site :-). Zion Rock & Mountain Guides image
We were not sure what to expect when we booked our canyoneering adventure, but our experience far exceeded our expectations. From our initial introductions when we entered the shop throughout our 5 hours together, every step was fantastic. Jackson was our guide and coach for the day and he was fantastic. Traveling with 2 adults and 2 kids under 10, we were incredibly impressed with the knowledge, patience, understanding and commitment to providing the best possible experience for our family. He took the extra time to make sure that we all had a great time and really helped the kids feel comfortable in the climbs and rappels and they had a great time because of his hand holding and support. We would recommend Zion rock and mountain guides to anyone looking to get out and explore more of what Zion has to offer and make sure to ask for Jackson! See more..

    Grandstaff Canyon Trail image
GORGEOUS TRAIL!!! Our guide wore chaco sandals through this trail (we also rappelled to this trail). We crossed through the creek several times, and my Merrell hiking shoes were soaked. It was fine, but wish I had brought my sandals. If you make it all the way to the rapelling canyon, there's a stream of spring water that comes out of the canyons. Look for the wet ground. It's delicious! It's filtered water from the Colorado mountains. See more..

    - Popular spot (P.S., it's actually a grotto)
    Hiking Trails
    Mossy Cave Trail image
We passed by this entrance a few times during our visit on the drive to our campground. The parking area always being busy, was an indication of a popular spot, so we chose this as an early morning visit during our time near Bryce Canyon National Park. We got a good parking spot upon arrival. The walking path is adjacent to a running stream which offers some beachy type areas where one can sit for a bit and admire the scenery. Looking up, there are fantastic geological formations. It is a short jaunt to the mossy cave which isn’t as much of a cave as it is a grotto. It is partitioned off with some a barrier, so you can get fairly close but you can’t enter. This is a good thing to protect the natural moss that grows in the grotto. Retracing our steps from the Mossy Cave we veered left at the trail fork to get closer to the nearby waterfall. We were able to get fairly close to the waterfall and took the opportunity to get some photos. This stop lasted us about an hour. See more..

    Watchman Trail image
My teenaged son and I hiked the Watchman Trail on our second day at Zion National Park. The Trail head is a short walk from the visitor center and parking lot. The hike is moderate in difficulty and is just over 3 miles round trip. The beginning of the trail is easy, but then it begins to climb. The elevation gain is moderate at just over 350 feet. The views along the way are wonderful. and we really enjoyed this trail. When we got up to top we took the trail extension onto the overlook viewpoint. There are great views of the nearby mountains and down into the valley of the visitor center and parts of Springdale. Of course the Watchman mountain in the background is impressive. We hiked down the circuit and really enjoyed the hike. If you are in the physical condition for a moderate hike with some elevation gain I recommend the Watchman Trail. It is very nice. See more..
  27. 5.0 Wire Pass Trail (Buckskin Gulch Access) (294 reviews)
    - Great easy hike to Buckskin Gulch canyon
    Hiking Trails
Wire Pass Trail (Buckskin Gulch Access) image
It takes about 1.5 gravel road to reach beginning of slot canyons from parking lot. About 10 miles of gravel road from highway 89, but regular cars OK to drive if you go slower than usual. Absolutely gorgeous view on a way to parking lot. Loved canyon. Busy place to visit but people are nice and stay away if they see you take pictures. It was our first slot canyon and we loved it. From beginning of slot Wire pass Canyon to reach Buckskin Gulch about 0.5 miles where you can go left or right. We went right about 1 mile and came back. Sun hight changes light inside canyon and makes same area look different. Absolutely must see. Make sure to buy day permit on line (no restriction), there is no cellphone service at parking lot. Nobody was checking our tickets to visit canyon but you have to place a permit number on your dashboard in a car. Cost $6.50 per person. See more..

    Pa'rus Trail image
If you're looking for an easy, peaceful walk in Zion, I recommend Pa'Rus Trail, specifically at sunset. Do know that most of the trail is exposed to the sun, so I wouldn't do it in the heat of the day. It begins at the visitor center and initially winds through the campground area before opening up in the valley. It is paved and pretty much totally level. You get awesome views of the peaks around you, and at sunset, the tops of them are lit up glowing gold by the setting sun. See more..

    Capitol Gorge Trail image
My favorite trail. I just loved it. It's easy, but as always, watch your step. Be sure to stop, and then look around, or you will drop your phone like I did. :) It was quite chilly and windy while we were there. Parking was hard to find, even in March. Please don't take up a parking spot while you're eating lunch....drive back to the highway and eat at that picnic spot. See more..
  34. 5.0 Rim Trail (178 reviews)
    - A great, and easy, stroll that provides a view down into the formations
Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
    Rim Trail image
For those who don't want to be challenged by the elevation changes, distances or heat of the amphitheater, this is a marvelous alternative. The trail runs almost the length of the park to give you many views of the interior. Another plus is that the park shuttle system, which runs frequently in season, makes frequent stops along the way and you can hop on and off without having to worry about a car. See more..

  36. 5.0 Bryce Amphitheatre (151 reviews)
    - Amazing! This Is Bryce Canyon
Spent 2-3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails • Geologic Formations
    Bryce Amphitheatre image
The Bryce Amphitheater is the bowl that is filled with hoodoos. It stretches out and descends from the rim. Technically Bryce is not a Canyon because it doesn't have walls on both sides. The amphitheater was formed by water flowing off the rim and down into the bowl and onward from there. The Amphitheater is the main attraction at Bryce Canyon and it can be viewed from several point including Bryce Point, Inspiration Point, Sunset Point, and Sunrise Point. The Amphitheater is magnificent. If you visit Bryce Canyon this is what you come for. See more..
  37. 4.5 Grand Wash Trail (148 reviews)
    - Hike this in late afternoon
    Hiking Trails
    Grand Wash Trail image
First of all, make sure you talk to a ranger and/or check the weather before hiking in the wash. If rain is forecasted, do not do the hike. A flash flood in this area could be deadly. We started our hike around 4 PM on a July afternoon. It was super hot out and on the hike out, we were mostly in the sun. However, on the way back closer to 5, the position of the sun meant it was below the rock wall enough to give us all shade and the hike was much more pleasant. We didn't hike the entire trail; it was a bit over a mile to the "narrows" portion of the trail and after walking in the narrow rock walls for awhile, we turned and went back, about 2.5 miles total. It's a beautiful and easy trail; I highly recommend! It was also not busy at all when we did it. See more..

    Hiking Trails
    Kayenta Trail image
This hike was not easy, rather moderate. However, for every part that requires more effort you will have a stretch of easy hiking. The trail is narrow with one side having a steep drop; do not do this if you are very afraid of heights. If you are going to continue to the emerald pools make sure you have plenty of water; you could get dizzy due to the higher altitude. If you have knee problems you could do the kayenta trail, but don't continue to the upper pools. See more..

    Mill Canyon Dinosaur Trail image
We wanted to see some real dinosaur tracks, and decided on this location after reading about several options. I'm glad we chose this spot. We had the place to ourselves and it was private. One family was arriving as we were leaving. This is great for all ages...we all thought it was super cool...adults, young adults, and a teen. They are really trusting people to not disturb the tracks. I hope people don't touch the tracks or vandalize them in any way. You can clearly see several types of tracks and there is a boardwalk loop. They had a donation box by the sign and parking lot. Don't miss seeing this. It's free and the donations are welcome, I'm sure! See more..

  45. 5.0 Chesler Park Loop Trail (69 reviews)
    - Incredible Hike in Middle of Needles District of Canyonlands
    Hiking Trails
    Chesler Park Loop Trail image
This hike is 11 miles. We did it in March 2017 on an unseasonably warm day (low 80s). It is quie incredible with a 3 mile hike to the Chester Loop which is 5 miles then you return on the 3 mile hike you entered on. The trailhead starts at Elelphant Hill which is easy to get to, just about 3 miles of well graded gravel road off the pave park road. It is fairly strenuous due to it's length but taking your time with plenty of water and snacks and you'll be fine. The trail is well worn so easy to follow and there are cairns on the slick rock sections to guide you. This hike includes the Joint Trail which is a narrow (2 to 3 foot) crack in the rock that you go through. It was a refreshing shaded section that provided some relief from the sun. My wife and I loved this hike. We are in our mid 60s and in ffairly good shape so we were able to accomplish this hike in 7.5 hours. We were sore the next day but nothing that stopped from continue more hiking in the following days. There is lots of good info online for this hike so check that out if you are planning this hike. One of the evenings we were visiting Capitol Reef National Park, after our dinner, we drove back in to see the Chimney Rock at sundown. It is near the entrance to the park along the highway, a large and prominent red sandstone pillar. In the setting sun, it was a beautiful red, with the lighting changing by the minute. I took advantage of the great light and took a number of pictures. We walked only a short distance up the Chimney Rock Trail, but it was enough to get some really good views. See more..
