4.5Canyonlands National Park(3.807 reviews) - Exceeded Expectations…. Spent More than 3 hours Mountains • National Parks • Canyons
We arrived at Arches NP, and were told to come back in 3+ hours, since it was at capacity… We chose to see Canyonlands NP while we waited, which was not too far away…. Having not done adequate advanced research, we didn’t really know what to expect… It was a breathtaking and memorable drive. I traveled with an individual who has limitations, and most everything was visible from the car, or a short walk. There was a Ranger at one area educating the children (& adults). He was very engaging, and the kids’ faces were full of awe and appreciation. My IPhone took great pictures, but I truly wish I had my better camera….. PS- the America The Beautiful park pass is totally worth it!See more..

We were amazed by these irregularly eroded vermilion-colored rocks and spires. The contrast between the dazzling red color of the rocks, the green of the Ponderosa pines and the blue of the sky was breathtaking!!! Unfortunately, we did not have time to hike the trails, which have been developed to discover this magnificent canyon (Pink Ledges, Hoodoo, Birdseye,Golden wall). For bikers, it’s also possible to discover the canyon on specific trails (Thunder Mountain, Red Canyon Bicycle trail).See more..

5.0Provo Canyon(209 reviews) - Experience Nature In Ideal Conditions Canyons
We live just a mile or so from the mouth of Provo Canyon, actually just a few feet from Provo Canyon Road, which turns into HWY 189 and will take you from the outskirts of the cities of Provo and Orem, to Sundance (turnoff), Midway (turnoff), Heber City, Park City, and beyond. So you should consider this review very much as coming from an insider, having lived in this community for over 35 years. Provo Canyon is spectacular! You can tent camp, or visit one of several fully developed campground/park areas featuring pavilions, BBQ pits, restrooms, and nature trails. You can hike, or you can bicycle or longboard or roller skate along the Provo River Trailway, fully paved and dutifully maintained. You can fish, or picnic along the shore and watch the fishermen haul in trout, bass, and other species in abundance. You can marvel at the 600 foot waterfall drop of Bridal Veil Falls, grab an antique narrow-gauge train ride on the Heber Valley Railway, or ride a motorcycle to the top of South Fork Canyon. You can launch your ski boat, fishing boat, paddle boat, or wind surfer on Deer Creek Reservoir, or in the Winter months, drill a hole in the ice, and catch a fish. I could go on and on. If you are visiting Utah County (just 30 minutes South of Salt Lake City off Interstate 15), and you have a day or more to enjoy this natural wonderland, we welcome your visit to our hidden gem, Provo Canyon. It is rarely crowded (except perhaps on major Summertime holidays), almost always accessible (unless in the middle of a snow storm, which does happen!), and stunningly beautiful all year long and in any Season.See more..

This is a beautiful drive through the grand staircase national monument. We drove the entire distance in a wrangler without using 4x4 in just over 2 hours. We planned to drive back the same way but with temps in the low 50s we noticed the road was very muddy and we decided not to chance it and took the highway back. Mid January with dry conditions for weeks before we drove it but still the road was a mess and our Jeep looked like it had been through hell and back. Keep in mind if heading out here it’s pretty sketchy in quite a few spots-See more..
Super fun hike because of the SPECTACULAR slot canyon. The shapes & shadows here are really neat. It’s a fairly easy hike, not much elevation change. It ends shortly after you see the rock that looks like a woman’s face. No bathroom at the trailhead. The dirt road isn’t too bad - doable in a sedan on a dry day - There is a fork in the dirt road that having an offline map to see which way to go was handy.See more..
4.5Fantasy Canyon(115 reviews) - Easy hike for families Canyons
This was an enjoyable hike with a bunch of little kids! My sister-in-law and I went on this hike with about nine children under the age of nine. We survived, no one got hurt or lost, and it was an adventure. It's a short walk around the rock structures and the greenish surrounding hills. Very windy and dry when we went (July). It was pretty cool though and we talked about how those rocks get like that. I'd definitely bring plenty of drinks, sunscreen, a hat, and snacks that are refreshing. Watermelon was super nice after that hot dry hike. I did lose cell service out there and had to go by memory to get out of the area. After getting onto the dirt road that goes through all the hilly, rocky landscape you can pretty much follow signs to the hike. We saw plenty of wild horses and antelope roaming the fields on our way there and home.See more..

We stopped at the Ponderosa Point overlook on our visit to Bryce Canyon. It is just down the road from Rainbow Point and slightly lower, but still at an elevation of 8,900 feet. The view of the hoodoos and the trees down below is beautiful. It is definitely worth stopping to see the magnificent views.See more..
We debated taking a trip to Kannarra Falls when planning our trip to Zion, but looking back, I'm SO glad we did it. The first mile into the trail is pretty boring and I got a little nervous, but once you started to approach the slot canyon and enter the river, it because so amazing. I like that this hike is maxed at 150 hikers per day to keep the hordes of people at a minimum. I would definitely make a trip back here!See more..

4.5Zebra Slot Canyon(61 reviews) - Mid morning best time for photos Canyons
The hike in is about 2 1/2 miles without much shade, but otherwise not too steep of a hike. At this time, there's a well defined trail down to the "wash", and then you turn left and continue on the trail or in the wash until the wash leads you into the slot. We were fortunate that there was no water in the canyon and were able to get some good photos. There are short areas that are tough to navigate in that you have to stem or shimmy with your "caboose" on one wall and feet on the other wall, and if you don't have good upper body/arm strength, that can be a problem. There are some tight areas that might not be accessible to someone with a large girth. It's a short canyon and ends with an impossibly vertical wall that one is unable to climb (unless you're a canyoneer and have no fear of falling). We arrived at the canyon about 10:30 and found that by 12:00, the sun was too much overhead and too bright to get the glow of the rock with our photos. Some people had their dogs with them (unleashed) and the dogs (medium sized and healthy) had some difficulty navigating over the drops and had to be lifted out and even had to climb over the back of their owners. Some were crying out and appeared to be very frightened over their situation.See more..

4.5Red Hollow Slot Canyon(19 reviews) - Tricky to find but fun to explore Spent 1-2 hours Canyons • Hiking Trails
If you end up at a construction site on a dirt road you’re going the right direction. There is parking if you keep going down the dirt road. If you follow the horse poop on the trail you’re going the right direction. Once you get into the slot canyon it’s really beautiful and fun to explore. It’s a pretty short trail and worth the pit stop if you’re somewhat close to the area. We stopped in route from St. George to Bryce.See more..

4.5Bears Ears National Monument(17 reviews) - Pretty cool even at a distance. See it soon! Canyons • Hiking Trails • Geologic Formations
This is a very new National Monument only established in 2016. Unfortunately evil powers are working to destroy this as it was reduced by 85% in 2017. While I did not get close by, it was easily visible from Natural Bridges. The history and Indian legend behind this and similar natural lands are as impressive as the actual landscape. This is worth a few minutes to observe and read the legend. The ride from Natural Bridges is just under an hour and can be tied into Canyonlands National Park as well though Canyonlands is a bit over two hours away.See more..

4.5Big Horn Canyon(13 reviews) - Great Slots And Views, Some Sandy Wash Walking Spent More than 3 hours Canyons
The slots are excellent. You have two choices of entry and it's possible to do reasonable point-to-point shuttles or a longish loop. Regardless, you'll probably be a bit tired of walking on sand by the time you're done. But it's worth it! Colors, shapes, tight fits and casual hiking are all in play. The variety alone is pretty amazing.See more..

4.5Leprechaun Canyon(11 reviews) - A Beautiful Slot Canyon, and an Short Easy Hike Spent 2-3 hours Canyons
This slot canyon is a treat for the average hiker. Most of the slots in this group are technical and require special training and equipment to enter and/or exit. This short slot gets technical further up, but offers beautiful, deep, narrow, sculpted rock passages on the lower end that will impress all ages. Be Advised, this canyon and the others in this area, are not for the in-experienced hiker. There is a SERIOUS Flash Flood danger if the weather suddenly turns bad. As always, take plenty of water, watch the weather in the area, and be cautious. Be Prepared.See more..
4.5Maple Canyon(10 reviews) - Maple Canyon's side canyon -- Box Canyon -- is a marvelous slot canyon Canyons
Although hard to find, Box Canyon, an offshoot of Maple Canyon, is a geologist's dream. It is also a rocky playground of boulders and rock. For a rocky stroll of just 600 yards, visitors here will marvel in the vast collection of conglomerate rock and 200-foot high sheer canyon walls. To find this place, go 0.8 of a mile up Maple Canyon after the pavement ends. Park on either side of the road there and then walk another 80 yards, looking right (north) for the hard to spot entrance to Box Canyon. The dirt road here is very bumpy, but well worth the jarring drive.See more..

5.0Crawford Draw Slot Canyon(2 reviews) - Off the beaten path slot canyon that doesn't require technical skills Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent More than 3 hours Canyons
The Crawford Draw is a remote slot canyon in the San Rafael Swell off 1-70 in Utah. It's about 6 miles of dirt road off I-70 and can be done with a 2 WD SUV (needs some ground clearance). Follow the directions on The American Southwest or Tom's Utah Canyoneering websites to find the trailhead. Once there you'll need to walk about 50 yards to find the start of the canyon. The canyon starts to narrow right away and there is water within the first 1/4 mile. We were there in early April 2017 and the pools were cold and got deeper as we we went. You can follow this canyon for about 6 miles where it intersects the red draw. Be sure to take lots of water and travel as a group. This slot canyon can easily be done by novice cannoneers but it is remote and seldom visited.See more..
5.0Farnsworth Canyon(1 review) - A very EASY and FUN Slot Canyon Hike. Spent 2-3 hours Canyons
This slot canyon is easy to find, but will require a 4 wheel drive high clearance vehicle, or a 1 mile hike from the end of the serviced road area, to get the trailhead. This is a short, moderately narrow, fairly flat slot canyon, with a nice well marked trailhead. There are a few easy obstacles to climb over. It is a beautiful 2-3 mile hike for young and old, located about 2 miles NE of the intersection of Goblin Valley State Park, and Temple Mountain roads, on a dirt track that spurs off in a northeasterly direction. This canyon is located in the San Rafael Swell area, and is a geological marvel of sculpted sandstone and metamorphic rocks. Once you have hiked to the top of the slot section, the canyon opens up behind the cockscomb ridge, and reveals a beautiful hidden valley. There are lots of large cedars to provide shade for a very secluded picnic area. But, there are no services or amenities. This is raw nature. Before hiking back to the trailhead, take some time to explore this small valley. Discover the hidden alcoves, rock formations, and shear beauty of this quiet place. Bring plenty of water, especially on hot days. This is one of our favorite places to visit. It is easily accessible for the entire family. The trailhead is located at approximate GPS coordinates: N38.66646 deg. W110.61898 deg. See photos.See more..
