It is a dying town, not a ghost yet. In fact, the decaying buildings and trailers which are abandoned are remnants of the oil and uranium boom of the 20th century. A cursory examination didn’t reveal any remnants of the 19th century town that once was. The people who live here don’t welcome fame nor attention. Abandoned buildings are signed “no trespassing.” There are better, more authentic ghost towns out there. See more..

    Old Iron Town image
We love to visit old ghost towns, Old Irontown doesn’t have much remaining. There is an old beehive charcoal kiln and some remains of old foundations as well as a chimney. There are a few trails to hike as well as several informative signs. This is a great place, on your road trip, to get out and stretch your legs and learn something at the same time. There are outhouses available! No other amenities. See more..

A local actually noted a ghost town in Widtsoe as something that could be of interest, so we ventured out one day to find this place. After quite a bit of exploring, including driving down some rocky and bumpy dirt roads, I concur with another recent comment on this site. Ain’t nothing here. We did bump into the Widstoe cemetery as we turned down one road. The next promising road just basically was a mixed enclave of folks who seem to like living in a kind of “off the grid” lifestyle. There were just a couple of old structures, but nothing along the lines of a true ghost town, and nothing worth exploring. If a Widtsoe Ghost Town is on your list, we recommend use your time on your itinerary for something else. See more..

This is a hidden gem and great Utah History. It’s especially great for those that love ghost towns! It’s very hot in the summer so fall and spring may be better choices to visit if possible. See more..
