Start with the two short movies and then move on to the varied and poignant displays, as well as the actual recreation building. - Enjoy Learning Here!
    History Museums
Western Mining & Railroad Museum image
Loved this small town museum because it is rich with the history of the railroad city Helper, Utah. R greeted us, was very knowledgeable and kind. The railroad displays were fantastic, but there's much more there. My grandkids got to go into the jail, pose as Billy the Kid, and sit at a telegraph desk. My faves were the room that honored the men and boys killed in their terrible mine accident and their veterans, that the floors, architecture and furniture reminded me of my grandparents' home, and the extraordinary large photos of the early town/area. After our visit, R walked us outside to show us how to get to the road we needed. See more..

Maynard Dixon Living History Museum image
We made this visit while traveling down US 89 on the recommendation of a friend. This is an easy stop that you could make as much or little of as you want, depending on your interest and time. The building in the front is open as a gallery and check in for visitors. After paying the $10 donation, you may take the very short walk to the buildings of Maynard Dixon's artist compound. Buildings (some influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright) include the studio, residence, ice house, bunk house, etc. It's a lovely setting and mostly shady. So whether you're looking for a nice way to stretch your legs, or are on a lengthy Maynard Dixon pilgrimage, it's a nice stop. There is something here for those who are interested in art, architecture, history, or just an interesting, pretty setting. Thanks to the owners for restoring and maintaining this spot! See more..

We had driven through Hurricane several times and had always meant to stop off at this little museum and today we managed to - it’s delightful and true to the local history and the original settlers. There is a fabulous wall full of photos of all the descendants of one of the original couples who settled in Hurricane around 130 years ago, their 7 or 8 children, their grandchildren and great grandchildren - it’s absolutely amazing to think all of those people originating from a couple who emigrated from England all those years ago - fascinating! And the chap looking after the museum was just lovely, very welcoming and eager to point out various exhibits... well worth an hour or so if your time! See more..

  35. 4.0 Heritage Museum (1 review)
    - Nice presentation of local town history
    History Museums
There are two main rooms of exhibits here. The first offers a geological history, including various fossils. Among the fossils and ancient artifacts that caught our eye were a fossilized turtle shell and dinosaur vertebrae. A collection of Indian implements added to the story of native people who had inhabited this land. A display on mining helped us understand how the quest for gold and other natural resources brought new people to this area. There is a story presented of Ebeneezer Bryce, the namesake of Bryce National Park and a gentleman whose story is important to the town of Tropic. Most importantly, was his contribution to brining water to this town. The second room contained exhibits mainly from the early to mid 20th century. One display focused on schools in the community, which served a small student population. It was interesting to see a copy of the dedication prior which was used for the high school in 1955. Additional memorabilia in this room included old phonograph and 78 rpm albums, older cleaning implements and a display of an old kitchen. Completing the circle in the room was an old pump organ and photograph of a lady who had played the instrument at the LDS church. We weren’t asked to pay a fee. Our visit here was maybe 20 minutes and we appreciated the glimpse of history about this small town. Stepping outside, we walked over to see a war memorial that is located in front of the museum.
