    Whitney Plantation image
This was definitely a powerful experience and I would absolutely recommend! The church was closed due to construction, so that was a bit disappointing, but we went in the morning near opening time and it was not crowded at all. The weather was perfect. Kids 5 and under are free. We opted to rent a car on Canal street and drove. The bus tour charges for every person even though children 5 abs under are free. $75 direct through Whitney Plantation for 5 people. $257 for bus tour for 5 people because they make you pay for a child under 5, which is free through the plantation. Of course we had the cost of the rental but we could come and go as we please do it didn’t take our entire day. We grabbed lunch on the way back! It was a great time with family. See more..

This warehouse, gift shop & museum is owned by the Robertson family of "Duck Dynasty" fame. Duck Commander was built on passion, pride and faith. It's uncommon to have an occupation that allows you to do what you truly love. The Duckmen do just that. We've come a long way since Phil jumped in his truck in the 70's and sold his duck calls "one at a time." Now Duck Commander is a brand that speaks to more than just the waterfowler. It represents a way of life; one of faith, family and the opportunity to live off the land. We have a line of duck calls that go back to 1972 when Phil patented the first double reed system. We have both low-end and high-end calls as well as calls for several different species of ducks. See more..

We were pleasantly surprised by the breadth and depth of the experience here. The bulk of the exhibits are based on the authentic ruins of a working sawmill that shows the progress of the industry from ~1900 to 1969. You'll walk through the actual plant powered by giant steam engines and learn the technology and economics that provided the lumber that built our homes in the early 20th century. As a bonus, you'll see excellent presentations of the CCC, which started the reforestation efforts of cut-over lands in central Louisiana, and impressive displays of WWII memorabilia and history of nearby Camp Claiborne and its vital role in forming the 82nd and 101st airborne divisions, and training armored divisions. Plus.. great exhibits on the life and work of Catherine Dormon, an incredible renaissance woman forester, artist, natural gardener and more, and Henry Hardtner, the father of reforestation. Ya gotta see this! See more..

While visiting this past June (19-25), during our family reunion, our family planned a day in downtown Leesville to visit the Museum of West Louisiana. Although the tour is self-guided, the friendly lady that works there was pretty helpful along the way. I think she was excited to see a group of over 15 people at one time. Los Adaes State Historic Site image
Presidio Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Los Adaes, the symbol of New Spain in Louisiana, was once the capital of Texas and the scene of a unique cooperation among the French, the Spanish and the indigenous Native Americans. An area rich in archaeological finds, it thrives today as one of Louisiana's most intriguing National Historic Landmarks. The site is operated with a collaborative agreement between Cane River National Heritage Area, Louisiana State Parks, and Friends of Los Adaes Foundation. See more..
