Its pretty amazing that after 102 years this historical site is still around after all the storms and weather. It really tells how well things were built back in 1914. I drove 25 miles north of Boosier City just to view this place in history. There is not much here left to see here than a few local fisherman casting their reals over the edge to catch some dinner.See more..

The Hale Boggs Memorial Bridge, also called the Luling Bridge, is a cable-stayed bridge over the Mississippi River in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana. Named for the late U.S. Congressman, the four-lane span was dedicated and opened to traffic in 1983. It connects Louisiana Highway 18 on the West Bank and Louisiana Highway 48 on the East Bank. In 1993, the bridge was incorporated into the newly completed Interstate 310, making it the first cable-stayed bridge to be built across the Mississippi River and to be added to the Interstate Highway System. In addition, it is the third major cable-stayed bridge in the United States after the 1,255-foot John O'Connell Bridge in Sitka, Alaska, and the Pasco-Kennewick Bridge in Washington, D.C. The Hale Boggs Memorial Bridge covers 10,700 square feet with a width of 76 feet. It's longest span is 1,220 feet. For visitors, like my wife and myself, who plan a tour of antebellum houses and historic sites on one side of the river along Louisiana's River Road, then return on the other side, crossing the Hale Boggs Bridge near Destrehan Plantation and the towns of Destrehan and Luling is Plan A. It makes you wonder why it often is referred to as the Luling Bridge rather than the Destrehan Bridge. This felt like it could give 7 mile bridge in the Florida a run for it's money. Taking many to the oil fields or Grand Isle the Leeville bridge is an impressive stretch of highway above the water.
