This beautiful old church dates back to the 1880's. It is filled with beautiful glass stained windows and artwork and charm. The cemetery in back of the church houses many old graves, some pre-civil war, and is completely serene with old oaks and spanish moss. Church services are still held on Saturdays and Sundays. p.s. Just a hop, skip & a jump down the road is The Academy of the Sacred Heart School, which was also in existence during the Civil War, and spared from Union soldiers by a Union Commander. See more..

  12. 5.0 Clinton Confederate State Cemetery (1 review)
    - A Nice Historical Stop
    Cemeteries
    Clinton Confederate State Cemetery image
We were in town for a genealogical trip and, having come to appreciate the history inside old cemeteries, we decide to stop by. It was easy to find, and we were the only ones there at the time. It appears to be well-maintained. We enjoyed seeing the iron fencing around some plots and the steps up and over one section of the fence. We had never seen that before and wondered about the history of those steps. As a plus, I saw the graves of some people who were friends of my ancestors whom I was in town researching. We didn't look at every single headstone, but we looked at most and took our time. We were there about 15 minutes. See more..

    Old Rapides Cemetary image
My wife and I visited the Old Rapides Cemetary in Pineville, just across the river from Alexandria. There are plenty of impressive monuments to the respected citizens of Rapides Parrish to look at and photograph. There is one grave where the occupant had an inscription placed on the slab FRIENDS, REMOVE THIS SLAB AND PLACE ME WITH MY LOVED ONES... Clearly, she wasn't happy about being here! This is a pleasant little memorial park with plenty of trees for shade and plenty of markers to give one pause to reflect on what kind I've life was had by those who reside below. The Old Rapides Cemetary reflects the surrounding area, not quite "New Orleans", not quite "Old South", but plenty of both. See more..
