Very early one morning I drove out to Lake Martin before most anyone was even awake yet. I was rewarded with a peaceful view of mist rising from the swamp. Several large egrets landed close enough to almost touch. Even a number of nutria were making their presence known. This IS a magical and joyful place to commune with nature. We enjoyed a day on the water. There is a nice launch, the waterway is clean, calm, and easy to navigate. Bring sunscreen as there is almost no shade. Cane Bayou lets out into Lake Pontchartrain.
