Stopped in today when I saw a roadside sign for boiled peanuts. I got a small bag to go but we also ordered some Boudin sausage, a cajun eggroll and some gator bites to eat right there. It was all good but the gator bites were my favorite. They also have a lot of other items such as jams, pickles of all sorts (including chicken and quail eggs), drinks and souvenirs. The place is just so fun and inviting right down to the fact that there is an entire room built for the owner's (Denise) dog (Sadie Belle) to stay while she works. I also love the exclusive line of jewelry by Mia Rustica that they carry there. This line is made by an artist out of Washington State. They also carry different products from a number of local artists. I also love all of the handmade bath stuff that Denise makes and carries. And let's not get started about all of the other wonderful things in the shop. They also do special events and sales frequently. My nieces will be attending Sadie Belle's birthday party in December. When we went the adding machines were not working. The 2 senior ladies poked to no avail for a minute or two & then conferred in a huddle for more time. I only had 3 items and I figured out the total with sales tax on a bag with a pen. I said as politely as I could "The total is $6.32." I was told it needed to be recorded on the adding machine. An elderly man with a walker came to fix the adding machines after being summoned by phone from 8 blocks away! Hope he drove! The ladies were tense so I was quiet, trying to be respectful. While we waited for another 5 mins. My friend made a joke. No one laughed.The whole thing started to become surreal. After the older gentleman arrived,there was a 3 way whispered conference. Now it was becoming like reality theatre. I just stood quiet because if I distracted the 3 seniors I would never escape. Finally the adding machines were made to work by vicious stabbing of the recalcitrant keys. 10 mins later we were on the street. I thought of the whole thing as a wonderful floor show. Theatre of the absurd! It made my day. Who could make this stuff up?See more..
