This is a small but very well thought out museum. The artifacts, the stories they tell, and the beautiful grounds are all worth your time. Aaron, the interpreter there when we visited, was very friendly and knowledgeable. You should watch the video first, tour the museum, then take in the somber and serene grounds by walking the General Mouton Trail. History is alive here, and you would do well to experience it. Not too far from the French Quarter area of NOLA is this small battlefield that played a very important role in the War of 1812. On the day we went there was a park ranger who could answer questions. There are placards throughout where you can read history on your own. Definitely an important part of that war… Highly recommend taking an hour out of your day to come, observe and pay homage to those who fought for our great country! See more..

This little spot is right outside Vicksburg and worth the detour. There are a few plaques with the history of the area. The one downside was that there were a lot of mosquitos. See more..
