4.5Cathedral of St. John Berchmans(29 reviews) - Liturgy & Music at the Cathedral of St.John Berchmans-Shreveport Churches & Cathedrals
If you want to attend and participate in a classic-style Roman Catholic Mass, attend the Sunday 11 am Mass. It is beautiful & uplifting. The $1 million Parkey organ is played masterfully--the organ postludes are often works of J.S.Bach, etc. The choir sings beautiful anthems, sometimes Renaissance polyphony, always masterpieces of the choral literature under the direction of an accomplished choir master. All this is in a setting described in previous posts...beautiful, elegant, magnificent. There is also a Latin Mass, usually monthly, in the smaller chapel on the grounds, St.Michael's Chapel. Check the web site and do make the trip to Shreveport to visit & experience the Cathedral of St.John Berchmans.See more..

4.5First United Methodist Church(15 reviews) - Located in the middle of Texas Street Wednesday: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Churches & Cathedrals
The First United Methodist Church was built 1913. It has a very interesting location at Common Street and Texas Street. My husband and I were touring the Shreveport riverfront then turned onto Texas Street. We immediately saw the First United Methodist Church in the middle of the road 8 blocks away. It was a pretty sight. The stain glass windows and building architecture was beautiful. We did not attempt to go in. It is certain worth a drive by.See more..

5.0St Charles Borromeo Church(8 reviews) - A must see in a very old town... Spent 1-2 hours Cemeteries • Churches & Cathedrals
This beautiful old church dates back to the 1880's. It is filled with beautiful glass stained windows and artwork and charm. The cemetery in back of the church houses many old graves, some pre-civil war, and is completely serene with old oaks and spanish moss. Church services are still held on Saturdays and Sundays. p.s. Just a hop, skip & a jump down the road is The Academy of the Sacred Heart School, which was also in existence during the Civil War, and spared from Union soldiers by a Union Commander. See more..

5.0St. Joseph Co-Cathedral(5 reviews) - Beautiful and historical! Spent 1-2 hours Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
I was surprised to see no reviews on this church. It is a spiritual place and an architectural work of art both inside and out, designed in the Renaissance Romanesque style of Europe. I very much enjoy taking pictures of historic buildings and this was an excellent choice. My preference is to take those of catholic churches and since times have changed and many churches have to lock their doors for security, I try to arrive a half hour to an hour before mass time. That way I can take photos around the building and inside, without disturbing those that are praying. Usually I participate in the mass; that way I can not only get the spiritual effect, but it also allows me time to absorb the intricate craft and design inside the building. Of course with all the stained glass windows, statues, lights, etc., it is hard to see and appreciate everything in an hour or two, but it is well worth a visit!See more..
This is on Hwy 405/River Rd and is nine miles South of Hwy 1 and is about 4 miles from Nottoway Plantation. I found it just driving around and saw a small sign on the two lane river road. The sign said smallest church in the world and drove by it twice before I saw it positioned in front of a cow field. We got out to take pictures and a nice gentleman next door doing yard work, said there is a key in the wooden box in front to enter the church. It had a prayer alter with candles you could light, post cards with chapel picture and story and a donation box. He said they actually held mass once a year in the church.See more..

4.5The Episcopal Church(2 reviews) - A Piece of History Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
Christ Episcopal Church is one of the oldest Episcopal Churches west of the Mississippi. It was designed by Frank Willis of New York and is an excellent example of American Gothic architecture. It was consecrated on May 15, 1854 by the Rt. Rev. Leonidas Polk 1st Episcopal Bishop of Louisiana The building is made of Louisiana Cypress and brick made at Woodlawn Plantation home of Colonel W.W. Pugh. The land and adjacent burial ground was donated by Dr. E.E Kittredge . During the Civil War, it was used as barracks by Union troops who used the stained glass windows made at Tiffany's in New York for marksmanship practice. It was finally restored between 1887-1906. It had a tracker organ that came from New Orleans. Today it and the burial ground are listed on the National Register of Historical Places. It is still an active church in the Diocese of Louisiana.See more..
4.0St Mary Of False River Catholic Church(2 reviews) - Beautiful church actively at the centre of its community. Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Churches & Cathedrals The Gothic-styled church building has a kind of unpretentious elegance. The spacious interior provides a calm atmosphere for reflection or meditation. On the front facade of the church, eight stained-glass windows depict episodes of community history, from the arrival in 1699 of the French naval captain and explorer Pierre d’Iberville. Oil paintings and other stained-glass windows portray biblical themes. We appreciated a cheerful welcome from local parishioners.See more..
