  1. 4.0 Fontainebleau State Park (345 reviews)
    - 72 degrees 12/30 late afternoon walk in the Park
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM State Parks
    Fontainebleau State Park image
I used 1/2 vacation day on 12/30, to take a walk through Fontainebleau State Park with my daughter and our dog. Who'd have thought it would be 72 degrees F on the next to last day of the year, a beautiful day to spend a couple of hours with my daughter still home from school. The entrance fee was $3/person, nothing for the dog!!! Most of our walk was through the woods on the Sugar Mill trail, but it was so nice we also walked out on the alligator boardwalk, two pictures attached. then we looped around to the beach and the pier, two more pictures attached. On the way back to the car, there is plenty of parking in various areas of the park, we spotted two interesting historical markers. One concerned native peoples and one enslaved people from plantation days (the early to mid-1800s). It was sad to head home for dinner after such a nice late afternoon walk. See more..
  2. 4.0 Bayou Segnette State Park (159 reviews)
    - Hump tables “speed bumps” campground

    Bayou Segnette State Park image
It was fun quiet place. Only knew the golf tournament was in town by the size of their busses. The confusing part was the 2 entrances. The one on Segnette (the google map takes us to) one was usually locked and the MAIN entrance is off drake street. If you value your plumbing have your spouse watch the vehicle as you pull over the table. The main entrance has a hump TABLE going into it that a lot of people scrape their vehicles across. The other entrance does not have hump tables(that you scrape your vehicles). But it is locked. Once you get in the birds and other animals are singing. Peaceful and pleasant place. See more..
  3. 4.0 Chicot State Park (118 reviews)
    - tent camper - regretted being at campgrounds on Friday and Saturday nights.
    State Parks
    Chicot State Park image
Chicot State Park is in many ways very attractive with its forested and hilly terrain plus its reservoir filled with bald cypress and a few tupelo. Plus adjacent to it is the state Arboretum with its educational displays and identified trees. Highly recommended. Overall park was clean but the only shower in the park was okay but really needs to be upgraded. We had about a half mile commute to that shower each day from our campsite. Rode our bikes so that was okay but calls of nature were a problem due to the distance. Thank goodness for a thorny olive bush. As a tent camper, we regretted being at South Landing Campgrounds on Friday and Saturday nights. Very loud music and very loud voices till late hours with no enforcement of quiet time. Bike trail for mile one is not an enjoyable mile to ride. Several steep up and downs with eroded banks and exposed tree roots. We had to push our bikes rather than ride them. Going in the opposite direction was much better with mostly flat terrain to ride. See more..

Beautiful location for this well-designed and well-maintained park. No issues with my site (27' travel trailer). The staff were friendly and helpful. Many interesting things to see and do in the area. The Abbeville Cultural and Historical Museum was interesting and the staff member told me alot about the displays, the area, and the famous Giant Omelette Festival! See more..
  5. 4.5 Longfellow Evangeline State Historic Site (70 reviews)
    - Amazing Grounds and Succinct History
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM State Parks
Longfellow Evangeline State Historic Site image
A better value than the expensive Rip Van Winkle, Longfellow Evangeline State Historical Site contains exhibits with a history of the Creole and Acadian people. But it was the grounds that amazed the photographer in me. The house is wide open with rooms you can walk into and see period home furnishings. See more..
  6. 4.5 Lake Claiborne State Park (63 reviews)

    Lake Claiborne State Park image
Very quiet and peaceful. The pads and restrooms were very well cleaned and serviced by campground host, Jack, who was very friendly. We visited in the dead of winter thinking that it would be mostly empty and was surprised to find that most of the sites were full. People were very friendly and family oriented. We were a group of 3 and were able to be located in very close pads. For us, this park compared very favorably to parks we stayed in in Arkansas. In addition, we were able to take advantage of a special half price discount. Such a deal! See more..

Driving through a rural residential area, you wonder if there really is a state park at the end of the road. There is! And it's fabulous! From the park attendant on duty to the campsites that are nicely spaced apart, this one is a gem. Bathrooms and laundry facilities were clean. A plus that the washer/dryers We would definately return (and book site #29) if we are in the area again. See more..
  8. 4.5 Fairview-Riverside State Park (57 reviews)
    - Very nice clean State Park

    Fairview-Riverside State Park image
Very nice and well maintained Park. I will say it is very tight maneuvering through the park and getting into a site with a large rig. We are about 65 feet with the dolly and car in tow. We made it but not a lot of fun. For a 40-foot rig I, think you'd be fine. Park is not real big and kind of quaint. Even if you're not back by the river it's, a short walk. Would definitely stay here again and recommend. See more..

South Toledo Bend State Park image
Thankfully the tent camping spots and RV spots are separate. I enjoyed my view from a primitive spot along the reservoir. Nice and quiet and such a nice view when I woke up. The park is clean, safe, well planned. The restroom and laundry facilities are well maintained. There is a small beach and a few nice hiking trails. There is also a playground for young children near the RV spots. See more..

  12. 4.0 Bogue Chitto State Park (41 reviews)
    - Beautiful, quiet and relaxing destination

    Bogue Chitto State Park image
We took our camper trailer up to the state park this past weekend and had a great time. The upland campground was our spot and each location has a wood deck with a picnic table and fire ring (yes you can burn wood and have roasted marshmallows). The spaces are large and even have a tent pad in case you have friends with you. I really enjoyed that we were not on top of each other, you could enjoy the feeling of being in the outdoors. Their were plenty of options for recreation too: horseback riding, walking trails, bike trails, playgrounds, a small waterpark, fishing, canoeing, and picnic spots. The Dutch Oven club cooked in a covered pavilion and you could taste their foods at noon. They are there the 2nd weekend of each month. Great fun and value! See more..
  13. 4.0 Lake Bistineau State Park (28 reviews)
    - Lake Bistineau Park, LA Campground rating
Wednesday: 6:00 AM - 9:00 PM State Parks
    Lake Bistineau State Park image
We drove to LBSP strictly as a short outing, not to camp or fish, and the scenery and peaceful surroundings made the trip well worth it. To enter the park it's necessary to register at the entrance, which is a simple procedure thanks to the friendly personnel at the administrative office. Prices are reasonable: $2 per adult, and free for adults age 62 and above. Once inside the park the roads are paved and in good condition; the family sedan will navigate the park without a problem. Signage is sufficient so it's easy to find your way around. Scenery is green and watery, with lots of Spanish moss adorning the trees. Birds, squirrels and turtles abound. White tail deer are about, although you'll not see them during the middle of the day. There are walking and biking trails...bring your insect repellant if the weather is warm! There are equestrian trails available for those with horses...but a good idea to call ahead instead of just showing up pulling your trailer. There are no concessions within the park other than a soft drink machine at the administrative office, so if you'll be there long enough to want snacks or beverages pack your own...just be sure not to litter the grounds. There are restroom facilities in camping areas Others have commented on the camping facilities and they are certainly abundant at LBSP, as well as comfortable cabins. But if you simply want a place to enjoy the semi-primitive scenery with the sounds of waterfowl, cicadas and an occasional fish slurping up an insect the park is still an enjoyable way to spend a few hours. We stayed a long weekend at the campground while visiting our son and DIL. It was absolutely lovely! The sites were well spaced, full hookups, new - clean bathhouse and laundry. We have RV'ed all over the country and have never stayed in a nicer government campground. Kudos!! See more..

We camped here for two nights to do some road bike riding from the park to St. Martinsville and back. The weather was fantastic. It was very relaxing because there was not any good cell/internet service so we got a chance to not be glued to our phones and spend time talking. The office staff was very helpful when checking in and paying for the campsite. There was water everywhere and so were the mosquitoes. Be aware that Barred Owls are very loud owls at night. They let you know you are in the woods. The showering facility was convenient. See more..

I drove down to Louisiana for a book signing and my hotel was in New Iberia. I wanted to see the water and so drove down to this park. Granted it was February and cold to most people, so it was deserted. But the park was beautiful and clean. I could see how this would be a wonderful place to stay or swim when warm. it was a bit eerie when deserted, but a beautiful place nonetheless. There were charming accommodations at the park I was intrigued by. Charming cabins set atop stilts. See more..
  17. 4.5 Jimmie Davis State Park (19 reviews)
    - We have our family reunion @ Jimmie Davis State Park every year.

    Jimmie Davis State Park image
Every year in October, we have our family reunion from Friday through noon Sunday. This is the perfect place for a large reunion such as ours. The children love being able to be outdoors and the playground area is wonderful. Some love being able to fish off the piers and watching for deer and other wildlife. The full kitchen and dining area is large enough to accommodate all of our families. There have been a lot of remodeling and upgrades to the area in the past few years. The retreat area has enough dorms to house all the families that attend the weekend event and it is very affordable. Wonderful place to just kick-back and enjoy. See more..
  18. 4.5 Louisiana State Arboretum (16 reviews)
    - Hiking in a natural growth forest!

    Louisiana State Arboretum image
We spent a couple of hours in this beautiful natural area. The naturalist who led our hike was knowledgeable and responsive to our group's many questions. She pointed out such interesting trees, including the "toothache" tree, the Devil's Walking Stick, and the Horse Sugar three. We even tasted the leaf of the last one, noting its sour apple flavor! We saw armadillos rooting in the ground, and a couple of deer wandered by while we walked the boardwalk. The Visitors Center has informative exhibits and the signage along the way was superb! If you're in this area of Louisiana, it's definitely worth a trip! See more..

This is a wonderful state park! Beautiful campground sites with lots of trees. All sites are long, paved and many are level. Free WiFi is available at the campsites! Also the laundry is by far the best laundry facilities I have ever seen in a state park! New,big washers that spin a most all the water out of your clothes. The dryers are also new and work great. There is a table to fold clothes, a hanging rack and a double sink if you need to hand wash anything! And the room is air conditioned! Oh, did I mentioned that the washers and dryers are free! No coins needed! See more..

  22. 5.0 Kincaid Recreation Area (4 reviews)
    - So much prettier than I expected!
Spent 2-3 hours State Parks • Biking Trails • Hiking Trails
    Kincaid Recreation Area image
I grew up in Alexandria, fishing and boating at Kincaid Lake. Not until recently did I become interested in camping in this area. My husband and I went to check out the campgrounds at Kincaid and Valentine lakes for future camping. Talk about a surprise! This campground was very well maintained. The sites were not quite as close to each other as many other campgrounds we’ve seen. Each site had water and electricity (we tent camp, so this is a bonus for us). The sites weren’t right on the water, but close and there was at least one, probably more, trails leading down to the water. It was thanksgiving week and the fall colors were beautiful. This will certainly be a future destination for us. Oh, and we met the camp host, Sonny Dyer. He was funny and friendly and obviously loves what he does. See more..
