I decided to visit the gardens on a mild January day. Many of the plants were damaged from the recent freezing weather, but this is still a peaceful and relaxing getaway for a couple of hours. I can’t wait to come back in the spring. The peacocks are fun to watch and add some additional color and beauty to the place. The lady at the gift shop said that there are about 50 of them on the grounds! I didn’t do the house tour, but plan to do so on my next visit. Same with the restaurant. See more..

  6. 4.0 Hodges Gardens (85 reviews)
    - Excellent Cabins, Good Price-Hodges Gardens, La
    Gardens
    Hodges Gardens image
We stayed 4-days in a cabin at Hodges Gardens State Park recently for family events in nearby towns. This is the best you will do if you have to stay near Florein or Many area. Don't use the hotel across highway-- not worth it. Expensive and run-down. Single cabins are only $65 night; larger duplex are available also. Our cabin faced a pretty lake and was a dream to wake up to and drink coffee on balcony and breakfast. This place is a hidden jewel. Even if there for 1-2 nights, it is still worth it, considering there are no decent motels nearby. Very clean, neat and rustic; Also flat screen TV is included. Bring snacks, coffee and items to cook of coarse, but everything else is furnished. If there for 1-2 nights and don't want to cook, you can always go to the motel grill across highway for food. Boat rentals are nearby and friendly geese visit often from the lake. I highly recommend these cabins for a short or long stay. See more..

    Imahara Botanical Garden image
The gardens were beautiful and worth a stop. We were the only ones on the grounds at the time and had the attention of the many peacocks to ourselves. Take time to stroll around the entire estate. We returned later that night to do some star gazing. The fact that it is open 24 hours a day and there is no cost to visit makes it a no brainer.
