There's nothing like a water park for a hot Louisiana day, and this one is especially refreshing, not only for the heat relief offered by its wave pool, raft ride and slides, but also for its noncommercial, friendly atmosphere.See more..

3.5Paragon Casino Resort(162 reviews) - A great place to play and stay Casinos • Golf Courses
I have visited the Paragon Casino several times - the hotel is absolutely awesome - and for the casino rate of under $28!!!! - Whirlpool bath, welcome gift basket, micro and fridge - in a very nice, spacious, clean new room. If you stay in the hotel, ask for a room in the North tower, they have the whirlpool tubs. Do NOT stay in the chalets in the RV park - they are rundown....FOr the same price get a hotel room. The casino is large with a good variety of games, and the staff is very helpful. One of our favorite places for a gaming trip. See more..
I used to visit this zoo all the time when I was a child visiting Monroe with my aunt. After twenty the zoo has changed a lot. The night house from what I could tell is no longer open and many exhibits are closed and over grown. That said, I would still recommend a stop if you’re in the area. Admission is still cheap ($6) and adding the safari bayou and train tour is only a couple dollars more. Kids will still love this place. I didn’t get a chance to do the bayou boat ride, but I remember it being very fun. The zoo just needs better funding and it has potential to be much better like I remember.See more..
3.5Zoo Of Acadiana(127 reviews) - Not Just A Zoo, But Fun Things To Do Too!! Closed now - 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Zoos
The zoo is extremely clean and well kept. The animals seem well cared for and have ample room to roam and the aviary is a wonderful upclose experience. There are plenty of things for the kids to do besides view the animals. It is just a lot of fun for the entire family. Personally we love to go at Christmas to enjoy all of the light displays and to see the animals in their habitats at night! Eventhough the rates or somewhat high, it is worth it knowing you are helping to keep the zoo open. See more..

3.5Red River District(70 reviews) - Don't go at night Neighborhoods • Historic Walking Areas

3.5Jena Choctaw Pines Casino(50 reviews) - New and attractive but small Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent More than 3 hours Casinos
The casino is quite small. No video poker machines, but many other kinds of slots. Not too crowded. A small poker room, five tables. A small buffet, but the food is improving. They are friendly and are listening to their customers.See more..
Hotel was very nice once inside. Neighborhood heavy industrial and a bit sketchy. Way out with nothing around it. Rooms were very comfortable and baths were updated and large. Huge walk-in showers very very nice-BUT shower floors were dangerously slippery. I put wash cloths on floor inside shower . Major hazard. Several restaurants in adjoining building with casino. Very smoky in casino. Drinks served only if you’re playing. Food was passable on the high end and just plain horrible on the low end. Day at bar one night for 30 minutes without being served, very busy but we were barely acknowledged. We were there with a large organized group ( 90 people) with our own Hospitality room and Tyrone was terrific every night, he took great care of us and is an asset to the hotel. Other staff were also great and took care of all our needs. Our complaints were only the two I’ve mentioned but both were big deals. I would not stay here again. See more..
3.5Prehistoric Park(31 reviews) - It's no Jurassic park Amusement & Theme Parks
My 4 year old boy loves dinosaurs and since Jurassic world came out its been non stop Dino's. We were looking for something to do before the kids started school. We saw this on the internet and said why not. When you get their you drive down road you see some electrical fences with a sign that says danger and though the tree you see a T. rex. The prices were a little on the high side especially after we walked though You walk along a path and ever so often there is a dinosaur statue it has a info bored talking about the Dino. Out of all the Dino's only five move while your outside and you can hear varies Dino's roar. When you reach the end you go through a door and their is about 4 Dino's that move and roar as you pass that's it You can walk the path as many times as you like their a picnic area and a swing set for the kids to play. They also serve hot dogs and hamburgers, drink and have a Dino gift shop. See more..
3.0Tiki Tubing(30 reviews) - Family fun Wednesday: River Rafting & Tubing
We had a great time. Great tubes, tough enough to endure sticks/logs. Website and pictures showed some tubes that weren't available but we enjoyed the ones we had. There were lots of trees/logs that had to navigated but we succeeded without too much difficulty. The staff were helpful and friendly. I was slightly disappointed in the "showers" (outside) and "changing rooms" since there was no lights in the changing rooms. In today's world, you expect to encounter all types of people. There were all types present during our experience. Several groups had music playing, most was family friendly but there were a couple that had mature audience only music blasting. There was also a lot of alcohol use. We used those times as a teachable moments with our children. We do plan to return.See more..

3.5The Woodhouse Day Spa - Slidell, LA(14 reviews) - Massage Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spas The massage I received was very good. The quiet room is nice. The price was a bit high, but i believe it's the most legit/full service spa in Slidell. If you're looking to do multiple services in the same day this would be the place to go. If you're just looking for a mani or pedi, else where would be extremely cheaper.See more..
My son and I found out that the one day a year that they open it to the public we would be in the area so we went to see it. There isn't much there anymore but the local history groups did a great job in welcoming the public and having activities planned along with free snacks and lunch. I think it is always open the first Saturday in Novemember and it is not too hard to find as there is signage as long as you know which way to go on Causeway Blvd. See more..
3.5Swamp Room(12 reviews) - Depending which bar tenders are there, it's a fun place to go. Wednesday: 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM Bars & Clubs I have been here several times and I have noticed that the women bartenders are much more profrofessional and attenetive than the male bar tenders. I was there for an LSU football game and the all men bartenders that night simply didn't get it. I had to wait for long periods of time for a beer and I wasn't alone it was noticed by others at the bar. Now when the women bartenders are there, i get my drinks timely and they are very attentive and pay attetion to what is going on at the bar. See more..

3.5Laketown Park(10 reviews) - Lovely lake walk Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours Parks
Go straight at the end of Williams Blvd towards the lake and park towards the left. You can see the casino towards the right. Walk around the park and then you can connect with the late front walk and go for miles. You can see an offshore drilling rig and the black sand on the edges and splashed on the rocks from contamination. But there's a little bit of wildlife and some beautiful flowers and it's very peacefulSee more..

If you don't want a condescending, patronizing guide don't use Greg Dini. He clearly is an experienced guide but expects you to be as good as him, criticizing your every cast without instruction. HOT! White sand and fresh semi clear brown water. The floating lily pads were fun to swim up to and lounge about. The kids enjoyed the inflatables in the water. They have paddle boards, and boats for rent. Bring your floaties and rafts.. Either rent or bring a cabana type covering. The sun is un-relenting. Parking is single file on either side of the pathway. We had to walk almost half a mile to get to our rented cabana. After two trips, we had all of out beach chairs, and stuff under the cabana. NO GLASS and No Styrofoam are allowed. There is one bathroom for the men and one for the women. There is no air flow in the changing room or restrooms.See more..

3.5Cane River Queen River Boat(7 reviews) - Pleasant 45 Minutes Bar, Club & Pub Tours • Boat Tours • Private Tours • Day Trips
We spent a pleasant 45 minutes on a warm and sunny November afternoon cruising about a half mile in either direction from the boat dock. Captain Paul treated us to some interesting tidbits of history, and some blarney. Having taken a tour of the Fort Saint Jean Baptiste Historical Site earlier in the day, we wondered why, when we cruised past this site, not much mention was made of it. We also wondered why neither the Cane River Queen River Boat website not their ticket booth on Front street listed prices. We paid $22.00See more..
3.5Jena Louisiana, Choctaw Pines Casino(7 reviews) - Not bad Spent More than 3 hours Casinos First time here. Went on an anniversary road trip. We always make a trip to the LA casinos on this occasion. It was clean & mostly fresh. Decently new games. Did we win? No, but we were able to play on a couple hunerd buck for a few hours. That's pretty typical of LA casinos. You don't EXPECT to win. They don;t build these places on winners. You go with money budgeted for entertainment that you can afford to lose. If you happen to leave with a couple extra bucks, then that's a bonus. In this context, it's a perfectly fine casino. A bit small, but fine. Clean, but nothing fancy. You don;t go to LA expecting anything fancy or luxurious. It's not Las Vegas. Even the casinos that are billed as being luxurious in LA are nothing like Vegas, so don't complain about the trailer park atmosphere and "tight games" because that is all there is in LA.See more..
3.5Earl G. Williamson Park(7 reviews) - Small park with good amenities Wednesday: 6:00 AM - 9:00 PM Parks
Worth stopping. Plenty of benches and tables, parking, and a boat ramp. A neat way to see the Louisiana side of Caddo. Unfortunately the lake levels were at flood stage when we visited, but that just meant the waters edge was closer in. Didn't really affect our enjoyment of the area.See more..

3.0Market Hall(6 reviews) - Quirky looking, but interesting Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
St. Francisville’s historic Market Hall was constructed in 1819 to provide a farmers market on the ground floor and a magistrate’s office on the upper floor. The result was a rather quirky-looking structure with an upper floor and a ground floor that seem badly mismatched. I do have to admit that the building is architecturally interesting, if not exactly handsome, and I’m glad it was restored in 1984. Today the lower floor of the building is apparently used for craft sales and the like. When our group visited Market Hall on a hot and humid weekday afternoon we found only four or five crafters displaying wares inside. My wife was delighted to find earrings made with Petoskey stones from northern Michigan, but there wasn’t enough variety on display (mostly earrings and specialty soap) to hold interest for very long.See more..

3.5Mansfield Female College Museum(5 reviews) - Little Known But Well Worth a Visit Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Speciality Museums
We were the only visitors when we toured the museum last spring. The lady at the site, whom we presumed to be a volunteer, was most gracious and knowledgeable. She shared a wealth of facts about the college and the area, including stories of the resident ghost, a victim of the Civil War. The displays deserve a little time; interesting to read documents from the college covering expenses, courses, etc. Surprised, but glad this place has been preserved.See more..
