Tackled the class 4 white water rafting trip today. Staff were very friendly right from the start. We felt confident in our guide (Andrew) as he took us down the River. Payette River company made this experience so special. We had two couples in our group, all of us over 60 yrs, and we will be talking of this experience for many years to come. The owners and guides are very friendly and helpful. It is very obvious that they enjoy what they do. We had a BLAST! The only hard part for us was carrying the boat around the class 6 rapid. We have long wanted to raft the Canyon section of the South Fork of the Payette River and finally were able to swing it in late August. We had high expectations and these were met, and then some, by Cascade Raft & Kayak Company. Our guide, Shane and accompanying kayaker Sebastian, were wonderful. Shane was experienced, friendly, knowledgeable, and humorous. We will request him to guide us again on our next trip. The trip has four Class IV and several Class III rapids, with stops at some hot springs and a nice beach for lunch. It was a great mix of occasional excitement, mellow floating and great scenery. Anne was extremely patient and helpful answering all our questions by email before booking the trip. And the prices in their store were very reasonable. We travelled from Miami, Washington DC and New York City to experience this adventure. I grew up in western Oregon and always heard of, yet never experienced the Snake River/Hells Canyon area. You must see it to believe it. We had grand visions of catching salmon and keeping enough for dinner, even planned a menu around it! Like Peyton said if it were easy it would be called “catching” rather than fishing. Honestly landing a salmon was secondary, getting to experience this part of the world made it worth the journey. Kudos to Peyton and Sean who had a boat load of amateurs; we kept them busy freeing snagged lines, untangling knots and countless other blunders. While not successful at catching salmon we did pretty good with the bass. My daughter, the NYC flight attendant was angler of the day, all we heard from her was “caught another one”. The bass tasted great and made a fitting end to an excellent trip. Already planning next year’s adventure.See more..

Rafting with Bear Valley was hands down the best day of our week long vacation in Idaho as well as the best rafting trip we've ever been on. We went on the full day South Fork Payette trip. I knew it was going to be a fun trip when our guide Howie walked up and said "Howdy, y'all!" and his helmet was unique as you can see in the photo. He was skilled, funny, and entertaining which made the trip that much more enjoyable. Lunch was tasty and a nice break. From the booking process through to the last stop for brownies in their restaurant we had a great adventure with White Otter. We did it as a family of 5 and everyone had a great experience. Our Raft Guide Sam, a friendly and informative college kid on summer break, not only tough us the rafting skills but told us a lot about the environment that we were traveling through. On top of the rafting / rapids fun, two highlights were a quick stop to rock jump and quietly floating by 3 deer who were at the river's edge. Rafting on a wilderness River was a bucket list item for me. Rafting with ASV on the Middle Fork of the Salmon river exceeded my expectations many times over. Brad, Diana, and the rest of the crew made the whole experience a pleasure. Working with Diana to make the arrangements was a breeze, even though our group grew from 2 to 6, just days before departing. On the river the rafting was exciting, and the scenery unbelievably beautiful. The Pampered Camping was awesome. The food prepared by the guides, was excellent. Three hot meals a day, plus appetizers. Tents with cots sleeping bags and pillows were set up when we arrived at camp each night. And, a big circle of camp chairs for games and conversation (Brad is a great story teller). I hope to do this again, and when I do I will go with Adventure Sun Valley.See more..

My 14yr old son, my father, and a good friend took a 4 day trip down the Rogue River. The guides were professional every second and were welcoming to everyone. Every day we stopped for lunch at a beautiful riverside campsite. Food, tables, and chairs were always set up before we arrived. We fished and rode rapids throughout the day. Guides stopped along the way to show us wildlife, waterfalls, and amazing views. Every night we stayed at a different lodge. We stayed in warm cabins with comfortable beds, hot water, showers, toilets, etc. Every night we were greeted with amazing drinks and dinners. The trip was in late August, and the guides were wonderful, the scenery magnificent and the rapids exhilarating ( but not terrifying). The thing that stands out the most, however, is Orange Torpedo's commitment to the inflatable kayaking experience. I own my own IKs and in addition to private trips have paddled multi-day trips with several other outfitters. Of those, only Orange Torpedo put a (terrific) guide in an inflatable kayak on the water alongside the clients. That level of personal guidance and instruction makes all the difference. Our family recently completed the Main Salmon trip with Rocky Mountain River Tours and it was fantastic. Our kids (10 and 14) were a bit nervous about camping for a whole week and a little scared that the rapids would be too adventours for them. By the last day they were both begging to stay longer and to paddle the rapids in one of the kayaks. All of the logistics were great, the food was amazing, the scenery was stunning and the activities were a blast. Our kids quickly made friends and we enjoyed getting to know the other parents and grandparents on the trip. By far the very best part of this trip was the guides. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond each day to make sure we were safe, comfortable and having fun. I especially appreciated that three of our six guides were women. It was awesome for my 10 year old daughter to have such amazing role models on this trip. They really inspired her to get out of her comfort zone and now she loves kayaking.See more..

Fantastic experience. We took a family trip with nine of “the boys” on a 3 day excursion. Everett, Jazz, and Zack are wonderful guides who fit right into our group and became part of the family. They went out of the way to make everyone from age 16 to 73 feel comfortable. The food was unbelievable with cheese and wine plates and salmon and steak…well above what our group of knuckledraggers was used to. The fishing was only okay but we were able to catch and release some every day. I recommend including the inflatable kayaks as they added a new dimension to the rapids and we were able to all try them at some point. I highly recommend going with these guys on any trip and only wish we would have done a longer one. We’ll be back next year.See more..

One of the best ways to enjoy Idaho’s Salmon River, regardless of the Fork. There were eight guides for 22 of us and they were each so experienced and hard working, always polite and gracious with smiles on their faces. They did it all--guide, row the oar boats, supervise the paddle boat and kayaks, gave casting and fishing lessons, rescued another company's stuck "sweep" boat, pitched tents, cooked gourmet meals, played the guitar, threw horseshoes, and created a fabulous obstacle course game at camp one night. Last weekend I took a trip on the lochsa river with a party of 6. From the start of the morning i knew it would be a great day. The guides were excited and ready for the day. Before getting on the bus everything ran smooth and professionally. You really get the sense they care about your safty and experience on the river. We had such an amazing trip on the Payette! Our guide, Freddie Bailey went above and beyond to assure our safety. We had people from 58-82 yrs of age and each one was watched over with care. My family and I went during the Riggins Big Water Blowout! What an amazing time to go! We where so glad we booked with Rubicon Outfitters. We did 26 miles in about 3 hours total. If your looking for a thrill ride then the Salmon river in Riggins is one of the best. I've been down the river with other guides, but the guys from Rubicon are by far the best experienced. Hunter, Jesse and Ernie make it look like a breeze. The way they can navigate through giant rapids and huge wave trains is so much fun!!!! My favorite is definitely Ruby. Our trip was planned a bit last minute, so we were not really sure what to expect. But WOW! Salmon River Experience was better than we could have hoped for. Sara, our main guide, was extremely knowledgable about the river, the wildlife, the beaches, where to take us on small side hikes etc. We also found out later that she was voted Guide of the Year for all of Idaho, and after spending three days with her it's no surprise why. We did a three day, two night rafting trip with a group of four girls and enjoyed every minute of it! Shout out to Taylor and Josh from SRE who made the trip even better. They set up our tents, helped cooked our food (can you say french toast casserole from a dutch oven?) and took care of our precious cargo while we rafted. 6th river trip with ARTA, 3rd time down the Main Salmon! Once again, we had an excellent trip. This river is a "gem". There is big whitewater, swimmable eddies, great scenery with plenty of wildlife, white sandy beaches where you can sleep under the stars. The food is healthy and super delicious! ARTA's guides are first rate - safety is always first, but to a one, every guide we have had has been personable, knowledgeable, kind and responsive. We went for a high water trip on the Lochsa river with Three Rivers Rafting and had an awesome experience. The staff and guides were very talented and professional, while also being friendly and fun. We were impressed and grateful for the safety of the trip, while still giving us plenty of big water fun! That river was huge and without smart guiding it could get dangerous in a hurry! The hot lunch was beyond our expectation. First class operation that clearly knows what they are doing out there. We will be back again!See more..

This vacation and destination was so fun. One of my bucket list items. Wayne and his crew are top notch. I loved the physical activity (paddling), some short hikes and the history each guide provided while floating down the river. The lodging was fantastic and hearing stories from the property owners and managers were fantastic. I got to see lots of eagles and Big Horn Sheep. It was a great 70 mile trip down the river. My wife and I, together with my son, his wife and 3 children, recently completed a 6 day float on the Middle fork of the Salmon River with Idaho Wilderness Outfitters. I can’t say enough about the 7 guides that expertly took us down the river through the rapids; set up our camp each night and took it down each morning; prepared absolutely wonderful meals; entertained us; and were there to answer our every need. They were all great and personable young men who made this a most memorable trip.
