A peaceful haven nestled in the Boise Foothills, located in the heart of Old Penitentiary Historic District. - A Very Nice Too Short Visit

For a midweek day in October, there was plenty of parking available. Since we were just two adults (grandson napping at home), we opted to skip the zoo. I'm not a big fan of roses, as flowering plants go, but for early October I thought the Rose Garden was spectacular. We discovered a small bridge over the Boise River. There, we followed the Greenbelt for a mile or so before we turned around and headed back to the car. Unfortunately, we were on a time schedule. I know there's a lot more to explore in Julia Davis Park, and we're saving that for our next visit to Boise. See more..

University arboretum’s vary substantially in quality and scope. The University of Idaho arboretum is excellent. Stands of tamarack, elm, and ash are interspersed with indigenous bushes and grasses. There are two ponds with geese including several young at this time. A great place to walk and check out some of the local plants. See more..

I didn't realize that the Japanese friendship gardens are right across the street from the other parks in Idaho Falls. After walking through the gardens, we had a nice walk with gardens on our left and the falls on our right. It is a nice, comfortable loop with eye catching scenery. This is a beautiful city. What a wonderful, quiet & tranqul place ! Loved the "Pet Memorial" area.... and the staff were ALL very pleasant and friendly. Outside of Butchart Gardens in British Columbia, this was one of the nicest gardens we've visited. Well worth the $5.00 donation entry fee. See more..

  9. 3.0 Northern Idaho Native Plant Arboretum (1 review)
    - Your experience depends on the wind
    Gardens
It's a short pathway through labeled native trees and bushes, situated next to a museum that's hardly ever open. It's interesting and informative. There are a few spots that aren't maintained well. Unfortunately it's also right next to a wastewater treatment plant that stinks. When it's hot and the wind's blowing in the wrong direction, the smell can be overpowering to the experience. It's free, though, and shaded, and you can always go back. See more..
