    Deibert Park image
While visiting Florence we stopped at Deibert Park. It is full of widely paved walking trails that have numerous paths throughout the large park which includes an abundance of large shade trees and plenty of places to rest. There are numerous interpretive & educational areas, ponds complete with fish and turtles, benches, assessible docks, and on the water gazebos, etc. The public restroom was very clean and also assessible. They also have a beautiful veteran memorial located at the main entrance. We were very impressed by the number of people who were visiting the park just for the walking paths. It is truly a beautifully designed and well maintained park with a wonderful storied history that dates back to 1875, as part of a large plantation. See more..

  8. 5.0 Skydive Alabama (74 reviews)
    - INCREDIBLE - highly recommend!!!
    Saturday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM Adrenaline & Extreme Tours • Skydiving
    Skydive Alabama image
The instructors and videographers jumping with us were INCREDIBLE. I felt so safe the entire time and cannot say enough good things about them. I tandem jumped with Ben Griswold, and I could not have asked for a better first skydive. THANK YOU, BEN!! I’m so sad that I can’t remember the names of all the others who were with us, but they all made our experience so great (I went with 2 friends). 10/10 there for sure. The only factors that could’ve made our day smoother would be: more communication as far as how much $ we owe (and a heads up that we will have to buy goggles), and a little more notice that the jump would be in Gadsden instead of Cullman (I realize this is temporary and probably has nothing to do with the workers we met that day). I highly recommend skydiving here!!!! See more..

  14. 5.0 Lowndes County Interpretive Center (65 reviews)
    - A must see!!
    Visitor Centers • History Museums
    Lowndes County Interpretive Center image
We were driving from Montgomery to Selma and needed a rest stop. Saw the signs for this interpretive center run by the National Parks and pulled over. What an incredibly well done interactive exhibit. You start off with a 25 minute film that is so informative and well done about the historic walk from Selma to Montgomery. When the film is over the side door opens that welcomes you into the exhibit. Lots of information and hands on exhibits. The walls are filled with quotes, the sculptures are striking and life sized, there was even an exhibit that replicated the inside of one of the tents in the tent cities set up along the walk. If you can handle the Alabama heat there is also a large outdoor walking path that simulates the tent city as well. It was 100° and we are from the north so we couldn’t handle it!! The parks official that was on site was very welcoming and knowledgeable. See more..

Students “step into history” and discover the power and drama of America’s journey for independence, liberty, and self-government. The American Village is embarked on a journey to expand the number of students served on-campus to 100,000 each year, drawing school and youth groups from throughout the Nation. On the cornerstone of liberty, the American Village educates and inspires young people to: Know America’s history — the stories of our country’s legacy of liberty and those in every generation who have secured it Cherish the ideals of liberty — the founding principles on which our Nation, the Constitution, institutions of American self-government, and our civic responsibilities are based Serve our country as good citizens and leaders — all as stewards of liberty Remembering the Price of Liberty The timeless lesson of liberty is that freedom is not free. The American Village tells the compelling stories of not only America’s legacy of liberty, but of those in every generation who have served and sacrificed for that cause. Adjoining the hallowed ground of the Alabama National Cemetary, which will become the final resting place for almost 200,000 veterans, the American Village has been designated by public law as the Veterans Living Legacy. This campus is dedicated to honoring America’s veterans and their service and sacrifice for the cause of liberty. The American Village is preparing to engage and inspire 150,000 visitors each year to remember and honor our veterans and active military. Foley Welcome Center image
This is one of our favorite welcome centers. I can ask a question and receive the exact resource I'm looking for. I asked about restaurant locations in Foley and was given a map and a listing of nearly all the restaurants in Foley. I asked about coupons and was given a large perforated flyer of discount coupons for many businesses in Foley. When I asked about other routes to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach aside from Hwy 59, I was given a map of Baldwin County which we've used to get to several communities on the peninsula. We also love the location of the welcome center since it's adjacent to the train museum and kiddy-korner from the Book Exchange which is one of the best book stores on the peninsula. The Foley Welcome Center will continue to be an annual stop for us. See more..

    - You need to go see!
    Military Museums
Crooked Creek Civil War Museum image
Fred is the nicest man and this is the best Civil War museum I've ever been to! It's even on the location of a real Civil War battle. He's been offered a grant for the museum, but so far Fred prefers to handle everything himself, offering a VERY unique experience including walking the grounds of a real Civil War battle, seeing period carriages, tools, weapons, and LOTS of historic artifacts he found on the property, including authentic swords and guns he actually let me, my wife, and toddler hold for pictures! They were unloaded and everything was safe of course. He built every building on the property himself. There have even been "orbs" and ghost sightings at the museum if you are into that! He has the cutest pets and my 3 year old liked playing with the dogs. You should all go to this museum right now! See more..

    Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks
    Butter and Egg Adventures image
So, I've been wanting to check out some zip lining for a few years now. Finally, the time was right. I had noticed that there was zip lining in AL off of Highway 231 in Troy when driving between Dothan and Montgomery. That kind of caught me by suprise. I hadn't expected that. Here was my opportunity!! The staff was very helpful with making a reservation. And, the guides were great. Very friendly and informative. They kept a watchful eye on us and explained the challenges well! All of this makes it great for a first-timer! There was a good variety of challenges and zip lines. Some of the zip lines went between trees and others crossed over water. It felt great breezing along on a hot day. By the end, we felt the package was just right. Any more would've been exhausting. It's definitely a great place to take family or friends. And, a great place for a group outing. It's also perfectly located on the way to Destin/PCB or when headed back from the beach. See more..

I took my husband here, as a surprise, because he is such a car guy! He was so excited to just see the muscle cars... little did he know that because of Coronavirus closures, I had to book a reservation time for a tour. This just may have been the BEST thing about the Coronavirus! We had a private tour by Mr Alton who is the most knowledgeable “muscle car” person that we have ever met. He was also extremely kind and entertaining! He had stories about each of the cars and how they were acquired. It was such a personable & fun time that I feel even if you are not into cars, that you will be after a visit! I know we will be back again! See more..

We came here to fly our drones over the Christmas Lights display for a upcoming marketing video. I was super amazed and very jealous my home town of Warner Robins doesn’t have something this nice! As you see I’m a very big fan of Baseball ⚾️ and just after taking the aerial photo of the baseball stadium I was told that this stadium won 1st place for the best High School baseball fields in America about 2 years ago. I so can’t wait to see our finish production of the Christmas lights in Oxford, Alabama See more..
  45. 5.0 Equal Justice Initiative (29 reviews)
    - Ouch! This is incredibly moving as well as shaming....
    Spent 1-2 hours History Museums

the fact that people treated (and continue to treat) others who are just different fr/ them is downright absurd. This "museum" (more of an audio-visual experience) pounds that into you. The problem is that those who really need to understand what this place is trying to offer are the ones who will never step foot in the door. See more..

    Weeden House Museum image
Built in 1819 (the same year Alabama became a state) the home is not only a source of fine 19th Century furnishings and Federal style architecture but is also the home of poet and artist Maria Howard Weeden. Howard Weeden was born in the house in 1846. Except for the Civil War years when Federal officers occupied the home, Howard spent her entire life in the home. She is known as being one of the first artists to paint African Americans true to life during the years following the Civil War. Guests enjoy a guided history tour which transports them to a bygone era learning about architecture, Weeden art and life in the Antebellum South. Since the home is furnished with antiques and original art, tours are guided tours and last around an hour. Tours are offered twice a day, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 11AM and 1 PM to 2PM or by appointment. Please refer to the website for specific closed dates as the museum is also an event venue and is closed on dates that those events occur. See more..
